I've been to Asia and love the art work and colors on these bags.They are very functional. Not only do the bags fit all kinds of things, there are pockets for smaller items you don't want to misplace. My family must have over a dozen of these bags and they are strong, none have broken.
I gave one to my sister as a gift, she lives in San Diego. Everyone comments on how "cool" the graphics are. I sent her a couple more last week as a gift. Now she can be super cool.

I still use them A LOT and am now in awe at how well they have held up given the way they've been used all these years.Yes, these bags start at $20 plus, but they prove the adage "You get what you pay for". 2.0 Color transfer/bleeding a major issue

The Gecko Traders bags are beautifully designed, and I owned a few of them before I realized they cannot be used to transport anything wet, as there is, in fact, the real possibility of color transfer. Granted, it takes a lot to get the color to transfer, but the point is, the color is not permanent and can either rub or bleed off. Here is how I found out: Worried about this possibility, and wanting to know if the bags could be washed intermittently, I tried washing a couple of them in the machine (cold water, mild detergent, gentle cycle). They came out fine, if a little faded. I did notice some of the color on one of them had been removed in places. I also noticed what looked like color transfer on one bag, so I dabbed at the spot with a little rubbing alcohol. To my horror, the color completely dissolved! Then I decided to try hand scrubbing them to remove the graphics entirely, but it proved to be way too labor intensive. Now they sit in a closet unused, while I try to figure out what to do with them. So sad! If only, if only the recycled fabric had been somehow sealed before the bags were sewn so they could be safely used for the many purposes they are designed for! By Rose B

5.0 An overall great bag

The best part about this bag is that it is large enough to hold everything I carry on a daily basis with room to spare (and I carry a lot), and the straps are long enough to comfortably use it as a shoulder bag (something that is extremely rare in totes of this size). I also like the deep outside pockets, although I have had a hard time retrieving small objects from them, lol. The appearance and colors are just as pictured - a wonderfully unique, good-looking bag. It is lightweight and folds up to a very small size, yet is surprisingly durable and well-made. The straps don't slip off of my shoulder either! As per previous comments, there was an odor when it arrived, but I sprayed it with febreze and hung it outside for an hour and that took care of it completely. The only complaint I have is that the edges of the fabric sewn onto the top part of each strap (the sections which rest on my shoulder) are VERY scratchy and uncomfortable on bare skin. If you don't wear sleeveless shirts, you won't notice it. I tried snipping and filing the edges, but I still ended up with very red, scratched shoulders. The solution I came up with was to wrap each edge with a strip of black electrical tape - this worked wonderfully and isn't as noticeable as one would think. Since I figured out how to fix the scratchy strap problem, I will definitely buy more of these bags in the future. Please don't let this dissuade you from purchasing this bag because it is everything (and more) that I hoped it would be - the best everyday bag I have ever owned! And the fact that buying it is helping people as well as recycling is just icing on the cake : ) By Jessica L

The previous reviewers of this product are insane. While I agree that, conceptually, this bad is great, there is one major flaw that trumps all of its positive features. Specifically, the bag comes with a disclosure statement that basically tells you that the ink used in printing the bag for its original, intended use is not stable in its new purpose. As a result, if you purchase this bag, you may very experience what I have experienced: both discoloration my hands (easy to wash off) and staining of your clothes if you sling the bag over your shoulder - both at the shoulder itself and where the bag rubs along your torso. Buyer beware. It would have been helpful to see the disclosure BEFORE purchase. By lilia d

The recycled wave tote is the best bag ever! I fold it up and put it in my suitcase for travel, With no weight and lots of space, it is perfect once I get to my destination. You can tuck money and keys into the bottom of the outside pockets, and not have to worry about them falling out. As for use toting groceries, I liked my bag too much to dirty it up with that. So I finally broke down and got another one. It makes sense that they are quite strong and durable. I like the fact that they have sewn extra onto the handle. WARNING!! DO not use this bag in humid weather!!!! I used the Gecko Tote bag as a beach bag in Cancun and the ink rubs off staining beach towels, clothes, your hands.. etc... DISASTER!!! I love this bag! I got two, and I've used them for so much. It's amazing how many groceries can fit comfortably into this tote, and I love the pockets to tuck away fragile items. With all of the bags out there, no one else seemed to think about that! Very Pleased! This bag is durable, colorful and comfortable! The stitching is tight and exact and the material is tough. It looks just like the picture, colorful clean and fun. It holds a TON of food! It has a wide, flat bottom and sits upright when packing. The handles make the bag though. They have soft nylon grips that are strong and comfy on the hands and the straps are long enough that you can sling it over your shoulder (but not too long). I use this bag for all kinds of stuff, it always holds more than I think and people always love it. Now instead of ten plastic bags falling all over my car that are a pain to lug upstairs, I have one bag that sits solidly on the seat that I carry up with one hand (and no more wine bottles breaking through and smashing on the sidewalk - its got cool little side pockets too!) I was wearing shorts and my legs were red and blue. I then washed it on gentle cold cycle which made the colors fade a bit & hopefully it won't have that problem again. Love these bags, we now have all three colors. They are as big as the more traditional canvas totes but they are more compact when folded, which means that you are more likely to carry an extra one just in case you are caught carrying more than you thought. The other reason we love them is because of the pockets around the outside for small items. These pockets should be called out in the pictures of the bag on the site. It's hard to pick my favorite purchase this year--basura gift bags, wrap n' mats, recycled PET work horse bags...I love them all! This bag has been used daily since I received it and I adore it so much two more sizes! You cannot beat this bag. I have carried it on every shopping trip and have repeatedly stuffed it with much more than I thought it could carry. The pockets on the outside are fantastic for keeping smaller or more fragile items safe. The bag looks great (it's just too cool to clash with what you're wearing!), gets a lot of conversations started in the checkout line and is easily filled because it is not floppy. A compliment magnet!!! A lot of thought went into this design. My bag works great for groceries, travel and the beach. You will definately find this versitile and highly functional. On the Beach: It is large enough for 3 lunches three towels and my son's wetsuit, Our beverages, Book, camera, and sunscreen slide into the fun wave pockets. At the end of the day I simple hose it down and let it dry. Groceries: Folds easily for transport and carries a large load (at least 2 paper bags worth) and those waves hold the vino and olive oil perfectly. Travel: Although this lacks a zipper it is a great weekend tote to throw in the trunk. The wide base helps to keep it upright. On our Colorado trip the waves were perfect for travel documents...easy access and hidden from veiw. and it sides under the seat. Just wish you would sell the lunch tote with the outside zip pockets too! My old one is worn out after 2 1/2 years and I need another! Quite possibly the best metro lunch bag ever! By Pennie B

These shoulder bags, totes, etc. are great products: They're very well-made, attractive, durable, strong, water-resistant, lightweight, but they should come with a warning and instructions. The shoulder bag I ordered (in pink) had the letters "C-I-A-L-I-S" emblazoned across the front due to the way the rice/feed bag was cut. When I notified reusablebags that I was returning the bag and why, they were gracious enough to let me keep the bag and sent me another one as a replacement. Today, months after I received that bag, someone suggested it might be worth my time to try to scrape off the letter "S" and turn the word into something that sounds almost Italian - "CIALI". It took several hours of scraping and scrubbing, but I was able to get rid of the "S" and turn the bag into something I am willing to show in public. I would like to point out the part of the bag that was underneath the lettering shows absolutely no sign of the hours of scraping and scrubbing that I subjected it to, and the lining of the bag stayed bone dry - Not one drop of the cleaning solution I used leaked thru. Again - this is a wonderful product: very well-made, attractive, strong, durable (the exterior obviously wears like iron), light-weight, etc. *BUT* - You need to watch for "undesirable" words showing up, however unintentionally, as a result of the way the sacks are cut. On the positive side, if you're willing to make the effort, the lettering can be removed with no effect on the rest of the product. By Teagan W

I love this bag!!!! I bought the blue/green version. It is very large carries a ton groceries. Very durable and there are 2 pockets on each side of the tote. The handle is great and makes it very easy to carry. I will have this tote for a long time. I did not want to spend $30+ on a grocery bag but this was worth it. I love this bag. It's sturdy, beautiful, huge, and has several outside pockets so keys and wallet are in reach. The colors on my blue/green bag were a little darker than expected, and it prominently says "Cargill" on it because it was obviously made from a bag originally containing Cargill products (which are not environmentally friendly). Luckily I was able to put a bag fob over the part that says that. Since I was able to cover up the Cargill logo, I overall really like this bag. I get alot of compliments on it and it holds alot of groceries. Also it is easy to clean off when things spill in it. Plus it doubles as a fantastic carry-on bag on trips. Love the bag. I got the blue and green one and it was a bit different than the picture where the bottom was green and the top was a dark blue. But I still really like. The bag is roomy and I plan to use it as a school bag for my lap top and books when I start med school in the fall. I was confused about the 4 outer pockets and could not tell from the picture. There are two pockets on each side. The bottom color is the size of the pockets and each side is split down the middle into two pockets. Hope that help? For a few weeks I've been stalking the grocery store aisles with this slick bag slung over my shoulder & I think it's great. Wary of puncture, at first I hesitated loading it with heavy items with pointed corners such as cartons of milk or orange juice, but it has held up very well. The bag looks great (mine is quite true to the blue/light blue bag in the picture), & it feels great to know that I, for one, am no longer choking the world with those miserable plastic bags. I love the colorful design. Unfortunately, the bag has a powerful chemical odor that it gives off. I left the bag in my car for the last 2 wks, hoping it would dissapate, but it is still quite noticeable. It is very roomy. I like the side pockets. I might order more if the smell goes away after airing out a few more weeks. The tag doesn't have any wash instructions, so I'm not sure if the smell can be washed out. By Monica S
