Nalgene® 22 oz All-Terrain bottles are made with non-leaching LDPE (#4) plastic and feature a well designed sports cap for keeping contents dirt-free. 22 oz size fits bike cages & cup holders and has a wide mouth opening making it is easy to fill, empty and clean. Design & functionality
Nalgene LDPE 22 oz reusable bottles are extremely lightweight, economical and virtually unbreakable. The patented hinged cap closure is leak-proof & helps protect contents from dirt and other contaminants. Indented bottle design is easy to grip, especially on the go. Shaped to fit standard bicycle cages, cup holders, waist packs and backpack pockets. The neck configuration works with most major water purifiers and filters.
Materials
Nalgene 22 oz All-Terrain bottles are made with LDPE (#4) plastic. Along with polypropylene (#5), HDPE (#2) and LDPE (#4) are safe, non-leaching plastics. HDPE is a sturdy and reliable translucent plastic. Nalgene® bottles made from HDPE resist UV penetration, which can damage and discolor the plastic. LDPE (#4) is flexible, impact-resistant and microwave-proof. Both plastics are dishwasher-safe and able to withstand temperatures from -148 to 176° F (-100 to 80° C). Nalgene bottles feature FDA compliant materials and are tested according to the requirements of the US FDA for food and beverages.
Sustainability
Nalgene bottles are reusable and 100% recyclable. Single use, disposable water bottles (PET plastic) create millions of tons of unnecessary waste each year. I was deeply disappointed in these. The flip caps were all broken off within two or three weeks. Several of the sport tops would slip closed just from the pressure of your lips, so you have to hold them open with your teeth to drink. We've owned several of these bottles for over a year now and find that they're great for carrying around in the car, for traveling, backpack, laptop bag, gym bags, and summer softball / basketball games. They can roll around in the bottom of the car or in the gym bag or bin full of softballs and they don't get crushed or leak. Since we're often outside, I love that the cover on the cap keeps the spout clean and I don't have to use grimy hands to open anything my mouth touches. The bottle opening is wide enough to fit ice cubes, and I prefer a see-through bottle so that I can see how much liquid is in there and what we've filled it with. I also carried a bottle around with me everywhere while I was nursing my baby, and it was easy to drink one handed and not spill a drop even with a baby in the other arm. I bought one bottle in pink so that my husband wouldn't take it and leave it in his car / backpack / gym bag and that's the only one I always know where one it is (so I'll be sure to get more in that color for me). These bottles get used frequently in our home - lost and found again repeatedly and they're still in great condition, and only 1 hinge broken after much abuse. We throw them in the dishwasher to clean them. I'm buying more of these so that I can pre-fill it with water / gatorade and keep them in the fridge so that we always have cold water and gatorade handy to grab and go. By Heather E

I have purchased at least 5 or 6 of these water bottles. Im disappointed that all of the tops have broken in two places. The flip top eventually breaks off at the hinge. I could live without the flip top but a small piece where the flip top snaps down in front also breaks off leaving a small hole. I needed a safe sport bottle that I could freeze. I bought 2 at first to try out. Yes, as others have said it takes getting use to get the water to flow out right but I love them. I didn't think I needed the dust cover but I don't have to worry about spills any more. I have since purchased 6 more for myself. My husband occasionally borrows them for hiking. I purchased them as gifts for my family and was upset to find that they had a pungent plastic odor that seeped into the taste of the beverage placed into the bottle. The weight and feel of the bottle was quite nice (and it was nice to have an assortment of colors to choose from so that each family member could have a different color), but the overwhelming odor made it an unacceptable item to us. This was a perfect addition to our reusable water bottle collection. I was searching for a BPA free made in the USA water bottle for my mountain bike (water bottle holder thingy)and this was it. My wife and I each have one for riding (her's is the pink one). I will say that at first drinking from it takes some getting used to, but that soon passes. Great product/value for the money. Please consider this product when in the market for one, it is manufactured here in the USA, and this keeps Americans working!!!! This is a good thing!! I originally ordered two 16oz, wide mouth Nalgene bottles with matching sport caps. The caps did not fit the bottles. Thinking I could use the bottles anyway (we live on a sailboat and storage containers are valued), I kept the extra caps and ordered two 22oz Nalgene Sport Bottles. These caps did fit but are a poor design as they are difficult to use. The cap has to be held open with your teeth if you drink more than a small sip. In south Texas we drink a lot of water. I really love these bottles. I bought one for each of my parents as gifts and then purchased two in pink for myself. They love them. What I love about them is they fit nicely in my bag and the cover is a nice addition to promote germ-free drinking (especially since I'm a teacher!). One of my bottles leaks (and the other can at times too), which I was a little disappointed about. I'm wondering if because I fill it up regularly throughout the day that the seal may be wet when I close the lid, which may hamper with the seal and cause it to leak. That is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. Otherwise, I really love them---Oh, and I should mention that the drinking spout thing is thinner than those bicycle water bottles---that's what I really like. It dispenses the perfect amount of water, which is particularly important to me since I'm having a sensitive teeth issues. By Tim T

We bought these for their refill-ability to replace reusing the plastic water bottles from the store. We really feel better about the plastic and its awesome to be able to throw them into the dishwasher, however the lids on these close too easily and make it hard to get a drink when your half asleep. If there was a different lid available I would have purchased it by now =) We have cats who LOVE to knock over glasses and such so we need a bottle with a lid. I purchased two Nalgene waterbottles- pink and natural. The waterbottles do have a wide mouth so ice cubes can fit in easily. They also do not spill, which is a great advantage. However, they do have one major flaw-- they do not have a mouth that is easy to drink from. The mouthpiece often makes a loud sucking noise and it is kind of tricky in the sense that you have to hold the white piece open in order to obtain liquid. I bought these Nalgenes for my parents since they had both tried to give up the other types of throw-away bottles that might be harmful - leaving them both dehydrated at work. However, I've been getting a lot of use out of them too! They are a great size (not too big - not too small) and very durable. They've been used daily and just thrown in the dishwasher and the only damage has been the "nalgene" decal wore off. They do sweat with cold beverages (fortunately it's easy to put ice through their big mouths) but it is only a minor problem. They fit in our bike holders and are great for traveling. The pop top is a really great and effective design and we've had absolutely no leakage. Plus the design is useful and can easily be opened and used with just one hand. We would absolutely recommend these new nalgenes - they are a great value for how much use they get and best of all we're happy to be creating less waste as we use healthier (leach-free) alternatives. these are my favorite water bottles by far. I purchased the sigg bottles, but it is hard to get ice into them, and they are freezing with ice in them. These are seriously way way better. I am always on the move, in sports and in life and I love these for all purposes. The only thing you have to watch for is to make sure you close the lid all the way, I have had major spills in my gym bag thinking it was closed, my bad though for moving so quick and not closing the lid all the way. First I had a Kleen Kanteen aluminum bottle. That would spill water if I filled it too full (as the cap screws on inside the bottle instead of outside), would leak all over my backpack if was more than half way full of water, and made a disruptive sucking sound when I drank from it since aluminum has no give, so I couldn't use it in class or study areas. When I lost it at a hotel, I didn't even bother calling them to ask about it. I decided to let it be commandeered by some stranger and bought myself the cheaper Nalgene. The Nalgene has none of those other problems, and I love it so much. The water also does not "taste like plastic" after leaving it in the car like cheap, bad quality plastic bottles do. I love the new non-leaching Nalgene bottles. They are extremely light. The attached sport over-cap is wonderful for keeping the spout clean and preventing any leaking. You can put them in the freezer and not have to worry about them cracking. Mine has bounced around and there are no dents or any problems at all. This is a great size! In case you were wondering about the top as I was when I was buying this - it has a squirt top that is covered by a dome shaped flip-top lid. The flip top lid is attached on one side. The sport-friendly shape makes it slip-free and easy to grip. The attached cover over the spout is very convenient and can be flipped open with one's thumb, and the gentle push-pull nature of the spout can be opened and closed with one's lips, allowing one-handed use (while you keep the other hand on the bike handlebar, stroller, or whatever else you need to keep control of!) I have the original opaque 16 oz., 32 oz., and the kid's 12.oz bottles. When I saw these were available I jumped at the opprotunity to get them. I have no regrets. I love the idea Nalgene makes their bottles with safe plastic. I love these bottles!! The colors are great (I bought 2 pinks and 2 blues), the caps are easy to work with and easy to clean. I can fill my bottle up half way before I go to bed and fill the rest up in the morning on my way out for work. I use them all the time! The cap from time to time will "suction" back down, but it is so easy to work with, I barely notice. The mouth is wide so putting ice in is easy. We have used our water bottles and are pleased with them except for one thing. We seem to only get sips of water before having to allow air back in the bottle. I thought the mouth piece would let air in when pulled up but such is not the case. Because the bottles are sturdier than our old disposable bottles, they don't "cave in" when we take a drink.
