Design and Functionality Platypus soft bottles are a durable, ultra-compact replacement for use-and-toss plastic water bottles. When empty, the bottle can be rolled up and stored almost anywhere. When filled, the flexible construction enables it to fit in almost any drink holder, including bags and backpacks. It weighs 80% less than a hard reusable bottle of the same size.
Sustainability Single-use, disposable water bottles (PET plastic) create millions of tons of unnecessary waste each year. According to the Container Recycling Institute, less than 15% of plastic water bottles in the U.S. are actually recycled. Using Platypus soft bottles helps preserve natural resources while saving money in the process.
About Platypus Platypus bottles and accessories are made with the active consumer in mind. Their line of reservoirs, bottles, accessories and more are performance-tested to ensure highest quality.
Care Instructions To clean, use hot, soapy water and rinse thoroughly with hot water.
Your Platypus SoftBottle can double as an ice pack if storing other foods (e.g. in a lunch pack)
I love being able to fold this water bottle up when it's empty. It saves so much space in my diaper bag!
I went on a road trip recently, and popped the filled bottle in the freezer the day before I left. Then I stuck the Platypus pop in my folding cooler bag and hit the road. 7 hours later, I still had ice in the bag (Still in the insulated bag), and the rest of my bag was cool too.
The only downside so far, is that the bottle is a little hard for my youngest son, but he's 18 months old, so that's kind of expected. I would recommend this bottle for children 4+.
Yeah, it's lightweight and you can roll it up and all that. But for an everyday water bottle, it's a pain! The plastic is thin but still quite firm, so when you try to fill it, it doesn't fill as much as it could (tries to flatten out on its own) and the bottom is not stable to stand it up. And forget about keeping it nicely in a cup holder. The edges aren't sharp, per se, but not comfortable to hold. I liked the top, but otherwise, an awkward bottle to use.
bought my first platypus softbottle more than 10 years ago, it went on every fishing hiking and hunting trip i made over that time. it never leaked until last year when i fell on it,didn't pop but had a drip. bought this size for my grandaughter. they are the best bottle out there and the more you drink the smaller they get !
I love these bottles, and so does my husband. They are easy
to carry, clean, and refill. This is my second purchase. One
apiece wasn't enough, so we wanted more.It does take a little
practice to adapt to drinking from a squishy bottle, but really only a drink or two and we were pros. I nuke them in the microwave about once a week to kill off any lingering bacteria--keep an eye on them, they will explode! Great for travel, lunches, hiking, etc. I recommended them to everyone in my family, too.
These bottles are great. My kids love that they are lightweight, colorful, and easy to drink out of. Their friends all think the bottles are cool. I did get the push-pull caps which were a bit difficult for my 7 year old to open at first. So far, the Platypus SoftBottles have helped us to use fewer disposable water bottles. I can see these will be handy at the airport to fill once we are past security. They pack down to nearly nothing. The plastic seems sturdy enough. The caps couldn't survive being chewed on by my dog, but the bottles have held up well so far.
I absolutely love these bottles. I bought several of the 0.5L size for my kids. They are the perfect size for their hands and this amount of water isn't too heavy for them but plenty so they quench their thirst. Plus they are just fun and cool and they love to use them so I know they are drinking enough water each day! Kids are 4 & 7 yrs old, for comparison purposes. Highly recommend these bottles!
I recently purchased the Platypus Softbottle in the .5L size because I wanted something that wasn't so bulky (like a stainless steel reusable bottle) to toss in my purse or school bag and this totally fit the bill. This particular size doesn't hold a whole lot of water, so it's not ideal to take with you for any activity where lots of hydration is needed (i.e. hiking, long walks, etc.), but for running around town or taking to work or school it's perfect. The only minor issue that might bother some people is that the bottle can sometimes makes the water have a "plastic-y" taste, but that may go away with time. Overall I think it's a great product and have already had two family members and four friends ask where they can get them.
I was excited about this product, so ordered six of them. I fill them up with filtered water. They are a little difficult to fill as you kind of have to squeeze the sides to open up the "bottle", & .5 liter is not as big as it sounds. I'm used to 20 oz bottles, but not that big of a negative, just have to carry more. Tastes like plastic, probably because it's made from plastic. I am hoping the taste lessens as I use it more? I also do not like how big the mouth of the bottle is when trying to drink from it (although I know you offer different kinds of tops at an extra charge). It is kind of cool that it is light weight, & easy to store. I keep a couple in my lunch bag to fill up at work. Overall better than buying cases of bottled water to keep in my car trunk like I did before!
I love this bottle and am coming back to buy a replacement for the one I bought a few months ago. I think I was folding/ rolling it too aggressively, so it developed a small tear on the side that eventually began to leak. I'll just flatten my new ones and hope that will solve the problem.
I can't begin to explain how much I love the platypus softbottle! I purchased the 17 oz. along with the hyperflow drink cap which made all of the difference (compared to some other users who had issues with leaking). The bottle does not leak whatsoever because of the cap and it actually makes drinking water FUN! Because of these two purchases, I have doubled my water intake daily! Perfect for hikes because I can roll it up in my pocket when empty and also great for yoga or pilates class because I tend to knock over my regular water bottles a lot which then roll away or spill everywhere. You will NOT be disappointed with this purchase!
Although I use stainless steel beverage holders and coffee travel mugs...I was thrilled to get this one for my collection. It works well sometimes to have a container that weighs next to nothing when it is empty too, and not have a bulky container in your bag all day to carry around. It folds up and is as thin as a piece of paper when empty! I just used it when traveling for Thanksgiving, and worked well to have going thru TSA with no objections from them (of course it was empty). Only drawback is that with this capacity it seems like a pretty small amount. Goes fast. Maybe I should have gotten the bigger one.
Love .5 liter bottle, it's great, and washes/rinses easily! My medical conditions sometimes leaves me more tired on some days, and I didn't want to deal with bulk. Love the freezer pack elimination feature, and have mixed up Crystal Light flavors in it. I bought all 3 colors, have been stopped in the street and at work by people who are interested in the product. The best part is I haven't had a leak yet, and there's a lot of stuff in my purse so I'm getting the liter size for my boyfriend. ;-)
I highly recommend. On a recent 8 day trip, I can count 22 occasions where I would have normally would have resorted to buying bottled water given a lack of other options(Disney, swimming, conference, airport). Consider the environmental savings as well as the saving on my wallet (Disney & airport water is not cheap--I'm sure I saved more than $40).
I ordered one for my boyfriend and one for myself and we both love these. Great for keeping around, I forget it is in my bag when it is empty, it takes up almost not space at all. It is awkward to drink from at first, but after a week or so of using it, I was an expert. My only kinda complaint is that the .5 liter is a bit small - only 17 oz. I think we're going to order the 1 L next and see how that works out.
We just used two of these on a trip to Hershey Park. It was great because I like to wear a small fanny pack so I can wear it on rides. If we had any water left I would just water the bushes in line, roll it up and tuck it away in my pack. After leaving the ride we could just refill them at the next fountain. With temps in the 90's they sure came in handy. My daughter now wants her own for her lunch box this year.
I have the 1.0L and 0.5L bottles in the plain design (Platy Bottle) with push-pull caps. They replaced the (increasingly dented) SIGG and other hard bottles that I used to have, and I frankly don't see going back to them. Other users have complained of primarily 2 things: cleaning and "flop-over" tendency. The latter is probably the sole drawback, one that is unique to Platypus. However, since it's the flip side of a flexible, compactable container, I am personally willing to live with it. If a bottle is not much taller than your palm is wide (0.5L for me), it can still be drunk from one-handed. I have to use both hands to drink from a 1.0L bottle that's more than half full, and did consider a sleeve. However, I found that it was more a case of changing an accustomed motion than putting up with an inconvenience, and decided against the extra bulk. Cleaning them is no tougher than for a hard bottle of similar narrow-neck design. I suspect that the clear and soft design make users more aware of cleaning needs, whereas they felt comfortable just rinsing out a hard bottle (and leaving the slimy bacteria buildup mostly untouched). Pour soapy water into the bottle, put the cap back on closed, and squish/shake. Open the cap and squirt out the suds; rinse. You can use white vinegar and water instead, or toss the open cap and bottle (half-full of tapwater) into a pot of water you're boiling for dinner. I've done all 3 over the last year, using the bottles daily and they still look new. If you're an urban user on foot and public transport, the compactness cannot be beat. Essentially, the thing only takes up as much space in your bag as the water you have left. That's a trick that even hard bottles of equal lightness can't manage.
Love these bottles, and I should have bought them in the 1 litre size. But they are difficult (impossible?) to clean well. They collapse once empty which means they don't dry well either, water always stays in them.
So far these water bottles have held up to my kiddos rough handling. They pack small when not in use, are easy for us to use, and we have had no problems with leaks (we are using the screw caps so far.) They fit in cup holders and my older son takes one to school in his backpack. We will be buying more of this size for short trips out.
I carried this around Disneyland for several days. I love that it got lighter and more compact as it emptied, fitting into my small backpack easily, and I saved $ not having to buy bottled water. It fills easily and seems to clean well. I hope it lasts.
I've recently purchased the platypus soft bottle and I'm loving it! I bought the O.5 liter and the 1 liter. I freeze the larger one and use it throughout the day as it melts, and love not having to lug home a big water bottle. My lunch bag already collapses, so this goes right along with it. The smaller one I take on outings...so far, they are both great.
I love the concept of these collapsable bottles, but I just ended up with a bag full of wet stuff. Despite the fact that I put the cap on as tight as I could when I packed the bag, somehow it came off and emptied half the contents over all my stuff. It's a nightmare.
I love my platypus, it is so convient. Being in the military this is the ulitmate water bottle. I can roll it up put it in one of my pockets, or I can have it sitting on my desk and it takes up no space. If there is anything bad that I have to say about it, its that its a little akward at first and its a tad bit flimsy.
These are a great invention! They're sturdy, lightweight, kids love them and super convenient when traveling. I love how I get weird looks from people when drinking from one. I've always carried a water bottle around but hated how they made my purse so heavy...or when you're done with it you're forced to carry it. With Platypus SoftBottle, I don't need to worry about the weight and when the water's all gone, I just roll it up and stash it away in my purse.
Super light, super durable, and a very nice new design. The new push-pull feature is much nicer than the previous one, which was sold seperately. These are essential for those looking to cut ounces from their packweight.
I never like to buy bottled water but I don't always feel like carrying a stainless steel bottle around. This is a great alternative - fill it up at home, and when you're done drinking, roll it up and stick it in your bag.
