Love these! They are my all-time favorite to-go ware. My kids (2&4) really like to carry them & I don't have to worry about them breaking. I had 2 for over a year & lent them out 1 1/2 months ago but cannot seem to get them back :( they wash up well in the dishwasher. One fault: they do NOT water seal, so no liquid lunch in these. I love that we can get these here, but I was disappointed to have the container crack on the side. I had their small, sidekick container crack as well, with no undo pressure on the container, and the customer service person at To Go Ware said they would not replace it. I've had this item for a while and like it, especially that you can use the top by itself. However it's nearly impossible for me to open the lid, due to the suction and close fit. I have to use my fingernails at the very lip and pull hard. My small kids have to have an adult open it for them, no way they can get into it on their own. Wish it wasn't quite so tight. I haven't purchased this new design but I have purchased 3 sets of the original design. The design is great except that after few months, you will see rust in the interior so I ended up using them for cookies and pistachio nuts. I hope the quality of new design is better than the old one but I am still skeptical. Please let the the company know this to review their To-Go Ware product. This kind of product is very much popular in Asia..I was lucky to find a company selling there same kind of product with same material but better quality(from my experience).... By Melanie K

I got this for my teenage (13) son to take hislunch in. He thinks it's the coolest thing and all his friends are jealous! They wash sparkling and spotless in the dishwasher and never get smelly-even when banana is left in it for 2 days! My only complaint is that it doesn't hold quite enough for his man sized appetite. I bought the tiffin based on other users' comments and suggestions and am very glad I did. It's proven to be a very practical, food-safe, sturdy and clever choice for carrying small meals, to-go orders and restaurant leftovers. (I also bought Built's Gourmet Getaway Large Insulated Lunch/Tote Bag to tote it in. I highly recommend it for its good fit, practical yet stylish design, padded insulation and sturdy construction.) I haven't had any quality issues with this product so far; I do hand-wash and dry it after each use, which might explain that. The snap locks work and hold everything inside, even if it's dropped or tipped over. The clever design never fails to attract others' attention, so I enjoy pointing out how much better and safer it is to use rather than wasteful plastics. My 4 year old son uses it for his school lunch and while some things do not fit in it (multiple individual containers with dips/spreads & fruit/veggies), most things do. This is a great lunch kit. It is fun to carry and functions well. Other people have mentioned that it is a conversation starter, but I was still surprised by how many people notice and admire it! It really gets people thinking about the environmental impact of their own lunch. Remember to pack you cloth napkin. :) In terms of function, I have had no trouble opening and closing this tiffin, and it passed the magnet test. I have found that it works best to put the main course (burrito, sandwich, etc.) in the top compartment, as the lid for the top is also the plate. Did you notice that they designed this so that the top can go solo if needed? How clever! Also, I have found that it doesn't work too well to put an apple and corn chips together in one compartment, as the corn chips taste like the apple by noon. I think the 3-Tier option might have worked better for me, as I like to take a few different things. I think I'll order it next! By Mélanie C

Because of this, I am probably going to buy smaller stainless steel containers to use for the tote. I just received one of these from the manufacturer (I usually order from this website but they were out of this product at the moment) and I am disappointed. Although the steel is of good quality and well-made, for some reason I expected this product to be leak proof, which is most definitively is NOT. I eat a lot of soups, and ride my bike to work, and was excited to be able to not use any form of plastic to transport my lunch, but ALAS, this is not its best use. The tops can be almost impossible to open when hot food has been put in them and then they've cooled in the refrigerator, but I've found that running them under warm water breaks the seal and it pops right open. I really like this 2-tier food carrier. It's convenient and the perfect size for a small lunch. I wish one of the compartments was a bit larger to accommodate a medium-size piece of fruit. As it is now, I can only fit a small plum or the like in one compartment. Even a small apple was too large for the larger of the two compartments. I love the small canister that is perfect for nuts or the like. I'm glad I got the carrier bag to accompany it because the round form does not fit well in my back pack. The lunch boxes are great. I carry mine to work everyday, its convenient and gets so many comments. I get a chance to tell people why I carry it instead of paper bags or/and plastic. My 11yo daughter carries one too, she thinks its "cool" and her friends think it is interesting. Very strong construction, I have a little trouble getting the top level off but it's a minor issue. I bought two of these and have to say I am disappointed. The containers are hard to clasp together, as well as the clasp for the lid. One of them has a big dent either from taking the lid off and on or it arrived that way, not sure. The metal is very thin and dents easy so durable they are not. I rarely use mine since they are so fragile and the first time I used them I had so much difficulty plus the damage to the metal. I also find that they are not easy to carry and use. I would prefer a screw on lid to the very difficult metal clasping design. I am also not sure these are true stainless steel since they failed the magnet test which makes me think they probably leech metal into my food. For the price and concerns, I wouldn't recommend them. My kids love these tiffins, and we get lots of inquiries and compliments from other parents looking for reusable, non-plastic lunch boxes. The problem is, these bend and crack very easily. After one month, many of my containers are dented. The larger problem is that slightly bent containers make the lids too tight. My hypoglycemic daughter came home yesterday after not eating half her lunch...the lid was stuck. I have a snack container full of salsa that has been in my fridge for 3 days, as I can't get the lid off. This makes these otherwise wonderful boxes useless. Second, I'm really unhappy with the new and improved to go ware lunch boxes. The hinges hang off of the containers and get in the way when being placed in an oven, or on the stove to warm the contents. Way too many spot welds...if one fails you have a useless item. Ok, this container is the coolest! It holds a ton of food, and makes packing leftovers while I'm cooking dinner soooo easy. (And I am not a historical leftover-packer-domestic-person.) The dishes are easier to clean than plastic containers, don't stain or hold odor, and are just neat! I'm about to experiment with heating over a warming plate (on low) since you can't microwave. (Not that microwaving in plastic would be good for you.) I carry it in the Built NY Gourmet Getaway bag, which is perfect for it. We take our own food on road trips, I carry food to work, etc. The bottom dish did leak when I laid it on it's side and had vinegar salad dressing. It's not water-tight like a thermos, but will hold back sloshing if kept upright. (Perfect for a bike basket.) Protects food from smushing. I can't say it enough but so fun to pack!!! By Cathy T

These are great! We are trying to get away from plastic where we can and these helped us make the switch on the days my husband is gone for all three meals of the day. Some grapenuts in the top, dinner in the bottom, a few sandwiches wrapped in wax paper and he's good to go. I also got one for my mom for her birthday and she says it helps her to bring leftovers for lunch without having a bunch of messy plastic containers to juggle. The are durable, snazzy looking, compact but surprisingly large inside, and easy to wash. Also they (obviously) don't stain or hold onto any smells. I would absolutly reccomend these, the only thing is that they are really not big enough for a cold pack so if you are using them for perishable lunch items and don't have access to a fridge this might not be your best choice By Tina W

I love this thing. I was looking for a non-plastic lunch container. Glass was too heavy and impractical to carry on my daily commute. Even though it's made of steel, the To-Go Ware isn't much heavier than plastic. It's just the right size for my lunch, and fits nicely in my work bag. It seems to seal quite well, and so far hasn't leaked (although I haven't carried anything with a lot of liquid in it). Everyone who's seen it wants to know where they can get one for themselves. I like this tiffin and it does get a lot of attention. I like above all that it is made out of stainless steel so I know it is safe. I also have a Mr.Bento (not sold on this site) which does a better job of insulating food and keeping it hot or cold, but is made from plastics. I like to keep salads and fruits in it and it will hold an adequate amount of food. This fits perfectly in the Built by NY Gourmet Getaway with little room to spare. By Christina B

I love this lunchbox. It's so handy and a great alternative to plastic. I'm used to using this type carrier that's been a standard in India for decades. A child might find it difficult and if you put hot things in, remember that the steel heats up. I actually use this in my cafeteria at work and move along the line filling up the 2 different containers, restack them up and close up the carrier so that if there's hot food in it, I can carry the whole thing by the handle. Then, when I sit down I open it up (always to the fascination of those at the same table who think I might be a coal miner!) and am good to go. The little plate between the 2 containers is handy to set something on also. I found a small spoon that fits perfectly in the bottom part so I always pack that with it. I couldn't be happier & got 2! We bought these at the same time as the Bento Boxes which I recommend for children's lunches, but the stainless food carriers are a better size for an adult lunch. They are not huge, but you can fit a nice quantity of food in them, and, if you have a number of smaller items, you can put them in one of the larger sections of the kit. They are easy to carry and much less prone to leaking than I expected: I put it inside a tote bag and don't worry about putting soup inside. I ordered two items: 1. The bento box ; 2. the 2-tier stainless steel food carrier. 1. Re the bento box. I would like the product better if each of the inside containers came with a lid. Lids would have added to the versatility of the product and allowed me to use the small containers separately in each of my sons' (or in my husband's)lunch boxes. 2. Re the 2-tier stainless steel food carrier. Again, the lids are the problem. This time I would have liked the product better had the lid of the top tier been a tighter fit because then once again I could use the product not just in its two tier carrier but also as a separate unit. The lid is a very loose fit and it comes open if I put it in my son's lunch box. In general, I am looking for stainless steel products (as opposed to plastic due to the incipient hazards now known to be associated with storing food in plastics) that are more versatile, different sizes and shapes so that I can use them for all my food storage needs. I love this item. The design is so fun and stylish that it helps motivate me to pack lunches for myself, instead of stopping at Jamba Juice on my lunch breaks. On top of that, I've been able to completely stop using plastic bags and tupperware with my lunches. Overall, the item is well made, easy to use, and completely fantastic. On the other side, there are a few problems to consider. Since the item is made of stainless steel, you cannot microwave food in it. This means you need to keep a microwaveable bowl at the office, so that soups and other warm foods can be eaten warm. This hasn't been a big problem for me, but some would consider it an inconvenience. Also, it can be hard deciding how you want to separate out foods (ie. yogurt, hummus, and salad dressing). This also can be worked around. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this item. Just keep in mind the kinds of lunches you tend to pack, and plan ahead. By Lisa S

I purchased the To-Go Ware Carrier for my 6 year olds lunch box and we love it! Its a great way to get away from all of the potentially hazardous plastic lunch boxes. I load the top portion with foods (beans & rice, tofu, etc) and the bottom with a cold pack, fruit and other snacks. The whole container stays quite cold for lunch. I am basically very happy with this lunchbox. My only complaint is that the shape makes it awkward to pack in a bag -- both because it's round and because the base is wider than the top. I would love something like this that was two rectangular boxes stacked on top of each other. This is my 4th and 5th set of To-Go Ware. I use it mainly to take food to parties and picnics and to store leftovers. It is so much better than using plastic containers. It doesn't stain or absorb food odors since it is stainless steel! As a chemist, I always worry about heating plastic materials with my food when storing hot leftovers. Yes, this is a large "box" but rather than storing food in both levels, I carry a utensil, napkins, condiments, snacks in of of the level when I am using this as a lunch box. I was looking for a new lunch box, started reading about bento boxes, and then happened across this. It works really well, and holds quite a bit of food in just in the bottom container. So much so that I end up using the top container for my mid-afternoon snack. A word of caution though. You'll invariably end up getting lots of dumb questions -- "What, are you going camping?" etc. -- for the first few days you carry it. Some people think it's cool and a good idea, other's just snicker while they dig into their microwavable TV dinners... To each his/her own. My only real complaint is the build quality, or rather, quality control. On mine, the handle that's spot-welded to the lid of the smaller container is about 3/4 of an inch off-center -- at first I thought maybe I'd gotten a factory-second, and was about to send it back. Then I decided the better of it -- I wanted to use the lunch box, not admire its beauty. Besides, it works just fine. Just... slightly disappointing, aesthetically. By Brady W

Just got my Tiffin = love! It's bigger than i thought and if i were to fill both compartments.. that'd be two meals for me. Each compartment holds quite a bit. i was worried about how spill-proof this would be. i filled each compartment halfway with water then turned the whole thing upside down. i expected water to whoosh out if it.. instead some drops came out. It's not 100% leak-free.. but far more leak-proof than i expected. So i'll happily carry soups and stews in it! My co-workers LOVE how it looks and i can't wait to order more to give as presents!!!!! Take this to restaurants for leftovers! Styrofoam containers are the worst in my opinion and in thinking about an eco-friendly solution to a doggie-bag this little gem came to mind. It's especially good due to the two compartments if you have two different food items you're taking home and don't want them to turn into a blended mess.
