I've used this sort of string bag for a couple decades, having worn out two generations of them and starting, now, on the third. I like these bags even better than the kind that are sold at grocery stores because (a) they're cotton, not plastic, (b) they can be folded, rolled, or simply wadded into whatever shape fits my pocket, bicycle pannier, or wherever I'm carrying it on my way to the store, and (c) the things will expand to carry an astonishingly large volume of goods. The only thing I would say is that I wish I'd gotten the black ones, something (I think it was ice cream) leaked all over the bottom of one of mine so it has a visible stain. I read all the reviews and thought YAY wonderful... yet another site with generic reviews and none of them were believable or helpful. I bought the bags anyway because they were inexpensive. They are the best most awesome wonderful bags i have ever used. Many reviews said they are great for produce but seriously they are great for all your groceries!! They hold a ton! i usually do 2 weeks shopping at a time and with 2 kids and 3 adults that is at least a full cart and i use 3 of these mesh bags and 1 of those bags that fold into it's own built in pouch (for soda) and i have no problem fitting everything. I am absolutely thrilled with my string bags. My mother had one that she used all of the time for taking all kinds of things here and there, especially to church. I haven't had a chance yet to use the bag a lot, but so far it seems to be quite durable, expands nicely, and "folds" up to a size I can tuck into a pocket or just leave on the seat of the car. I ordered both the short- and long-handled versions and preferred the short-handled version; so I gave the other one away for a Christmas present! (I can see where the long-handled one could be useful by tying the handles together, and of course, it goes over a shoulder easily.) I appreciated receiving the nylon foldaway bag with my order; it, too, lives in the car. I think the small size of both these bags makes them most useful. Grocery stores here are selling the square-shaped things with long handles, but they take up too much room although they hold a lot. BTW, I've encouraged the owner of my favorite coffee shop to explore the possibility of selling these bags so customers don't have to use a plastic bag. I hope he will be in touch with you soon. I love these bags. I originally purchased the long handled ones, but was given a short handle one and like it better. Both kinds have an unlimited amount of space inside to put purchases. My original purchase was for the combination of three long handle and two short handle bags. This order was for the short handle variety, which I prefer, essentially to replace those with the longer handles. So I would suggest that you modify your combo offer so the buyer has a choice of all short handles, all long handles or the original mix of short and long handles. I purchased identical bags over 15 years ago, and I am still using those! Net bags are not as durable as cloth bags, but net bags are much more compressible. Net bags are much more durable than some of the bags that compress into ultra small pouches. I cram a few net bags under the driver seats of may cars and I keep a few at work for trips to the farmers' markets. I love these bags! They are convenient and stretchy and create a stir wherever I use them. Invariably I am asked about them. Safeway gives me a 3 cent credit for not using their bags. I feel so much better using them rather than the plastic bags in the stores. I keep them in my car in the front seat so I remember to use them when I shop. Just recently I was driving along a freeway and saw litter from dozens and dozens of plastic bags on the side of the road. It looked horrible. I used to use a similar shopping bag when I lived in Europe; don't know why it took me so long to pick up the habit again here in the states. I love the cotton string grocery bags! I had slacked and always wanted to take them to the grocery store and now i don't know how i ever lived without them. Not only are they the environmentally conscious thing to do, but they hold a TON of food and much easier to carry than a million plastic bags. The long shoulder straps are key. I can carry 2 long shoulders and 4 short handles in one trip without having to make a second trip down to the car. I started using the bag only last week, so I can't review about its durability. But so far, I am very pleased with the product. It seems sturdy, stretches well, therefore holds a lot of stuff. I purchased both, the short handle and long handle versions. I think I like the long handle better, since I can get more uses out of it (hang it from my shoulder, tie it so the contents doesn't spill, etc). With the increasing emphasis on the decline of the environment, I was looking for a way to do my part, I found these string bags, the ultimate way to shop anywhere, sure I get looks, but that's good! I sometimes get smiles and questions too. They are stonger than the plastic grocery bags and expand. Not only are landfills sans my contribution of chemical leaching plastics for thousands of years, but the string bag was made eco friendly too, certified organic cotton means it didn't harm the environment to make it, and the workers who made them were paid fair wages/ fair labor and you can cold wash and drip dry when needed (less electricity). I love these bags. I had been searching for a bag that could do it all, and these do. They expand to hold a ton of stuff, and they are comfortable to carry. I take them to the grocery store, farmers market, playground, pool, you get the picture. Then, when your not using them, they shrink back down to a size that fits in the palm of your hand. I have only had them a few months, and I use them nearly everyday. The only thing they aren't good for, obviously, are very small things. They also stretch to hold quite a few things--I was able to fill two bags with $70 worth of groceries! They look unique, as well, and people often comment on them. (i have since made a prototype of my own and am toying with filling this very important niche.) anyway, on to the product at hand. she LOVES both the string bag and the unlra compact bags i got here. keeps them in the center 'glove' box in the car for easy access for any type of shopping, whether groceries or rummage sales. and even the baggers at the store love them-- they are very UNIQUE around here for one, and they fit right over the metal bagging stands nicely. i included in this gift a whole lot of info from the net on how much of an impact using these bags will have on the environment. Markets do not know what to do with the produce in the bag. Since they can not see it the item they seem a little confused as to how to deal with these bags. The bag has weight and they belive most people do not want to pay for the wright of the bag with their produce. I think the more people use them the better it will be. Not only can I stuff twice as many groceries in them as I could a plastic bag, but the handles don't cut into your hand the same way a plastic bag would -- even when it's overflowing! Besides being useful for shopping, they are ideal for toting around extra gear (toys, books, food, whatever) for outings with my toddlers.
