The reuseit Recycled PET Mesh Workhorse is an updated version of our customer favorite reuseit Workhorse Original. Based on the design of the classic plastic shopping bag, it's made from recycled PET nylon mesh that is incredibly strong, super lightweight and stylish. Weighs less than 1.5 oz yet can hold over 25 lbs.
Each ultra-compact pouch opens into a heavy-duty, water and mildew resistant sack that is a roomy 19"x 16" x 6". In addition to using it as a shopping bag, its quick-dry, breathable fabric is perfect for outdoor activities (e.g. beach bag). Best of all it's see-through, so it's especially handy for finding items quickly.
The reuseit Workhorse has a truly innovative feature; it folds into its own mini-sack attached inside the bag. Once stuffed into its pouch, it measures a mere 3.6" x 3.6," easily fitting into the palm of your hand and small enough to stash in a purse or pocket so you will always have one handy. This mesh bag was an add-on promo to my cart due to my purchase total. I can always use another reusable shopping bag, so I accepted.Much to my surprise, this bag is self contained into a sewn on pocket inside the open bag. The shape is identical to the t-shirt style plastic grocer bags commonly used at retailers. Did I mention the size of this bag? This is quite large, much larger than your typical sized - shaped plastic grocery bag. Best of all, because of its compact, self contained packability, I keep this inside my averaged sized shoulder bag to have available for small shopping stops. As for durability, the mesh material does feel thicker for a mesh type fabric. I have loaded this bag with a gallon of milk, some loose produce and smaller items on top - all from the same trip. I only needed to carry the bag from the store front to my parked car and again from my driveway to the kitchen. Nevertheless, the bag never gave me doubt to its strength.
I do plan to purchase another or two! I definitely recommend this item to anyone who is wanting to use reusable bags and minimal space/packing is a concern.

This is one of my regular bags for stuffing in my purse before I go out, and seems to do its job well. The handles are thick enough that they don't cut into your arm when carrying heavy stuff and multiple bags, and just long enough to loop around my wrist and hand to get a better grip on the bag. All the seams seem to be really well-enforced, and the fabric seems quite strong, so I don't see this thing giving out anytime soon. The mesh is nice for being able to see what's inside, and I imagine might pack up a little smaller than a solid fabric, just because it's less dense. I have the green, which I think I got as a promotion of some sort a while back. It's kind of an odd, almost putrid color, but the bag has been so handy that I've developed a fondness for it in spite of that. It's been through the washing machine a few times, too, and seems completely unfazed. The little sack it stuffs up into isn't the quickest thing to get it in and out of, so I admit to being lazy most of the time and just wadding it up in a ball and throwing it in my bag. The PET Mesh Workhorse bag is a good product. There is one drawback if you have multiple bags are have large hands. The hand holds at the ends of the bags are too small. I can just get my fingers through the holes! resueit should enlarge these holes for your hands, then the product would be perfect. The original rip-stop nylon bags had larger holes for your hands. I received this for free as part of a promotion, so I can't complain too much about it. I'm not sure I would pay money for this, though. The bag is certainly more compact than most reusable bags. However, the handles are very short, which means you can't put it over your shoulder and if the bag is very full and wide, and you have small hands like me, it can be difficult to hold. Also, I at first liked that the case for the bag is actually attached to the bag, as it means you won't lose it, but I have yet to be able to get the bag back inside of it, thus rendering it completely useless. Even if I could figure it out, it would take too long to be worth it. I think they need to make the case much larger, with maybe an elastic or drawstring closing. Anyway, I've just wrapped a hair tie around the bag after quickly folding it up, which helps it stay together. By charles o

I bought the original nylon fabric Workhorse bags, and the bottom ripped open at the seam. I got the mesh Workhorse bag as a free promotional item. Like the original Workhorse, the seams are sewn with a very long stitch length, a length I would use for basting, not for sewing a seam that will have a lot of stress placed on it. By Karen G

The Workhorse is compact, easy to use, and handles the tough loads. Cashiers love the fact that it hangs onto their bag handles. Customers admire the product and want to know where I purchased it. They are not difficult to fold and stuff, even with arthritis in both hands. I carry six in my handbag so I'm prepared for all but the most onerous shopping expeditions. I'm never without a bag at garage sales and flea markets anymore. Unlike plastic bags, these don't rip at inopportune moments and send canned goods rolling under the (dare I say it?) trailer. With so many fine design features - portabililty, strength, carrying capacity, this bag is a stand-out. That said, I still find un-packing the bag un-graceful: the mesh tends to cling to iteself (whereas before it stayed wrinkled and hard to spreaad out.) The handles are useful and are of the right size, but do NOT attempt to hang the bag on the metal carrier at the grocery store that holds that vast supply of factory-fresh plastic bags. That's because this mesh beauty will slip right off, as gracefully as the one that got away. There is always room for improvement in thoughtful design. I will be interested to see how this one evolves. In my opinion it will be a survivor in the derby against those big cardboard-like re-useable monstrosities that grocery chains now brand and sell as their own. By David C

My favorite of all the different reusable bags I have (and that's quite a variety!) is still the Acme mesh Workhorse bag that folds up into its attached pouch. It's light, strong and small enough to fit handily in my purse. I also like that I can see through the mesh somewhat to know what is IN THERE. Well, happy day! I now have several of the new version of this super bag, and they are in vibrant colors. They are as strong and handy as the original -- just more cheerful. I have been using the same 2 bags for a few years now and absolutely love them. I load them up so full, the newer checkout clerks always get nervous when they see me put so much stuff in. Today I brought home in one bag a 1/2 gal. milk carton, a few cans of soup, a large tub of yogourt, a couple of large oranges, a bunch of grapes, several tangerines, a tub of hummus, cookies and fish from the deli, a couple of tomatos, some presliced / packaged pineapple, a pound of pasta, and a couple of bars of cheese -- all in one bag. No tears in my bags after all this time and regular use as described above. They don't even strain under the weight (my back is the only thing straining). I love the mesh because it stretches to have such a large carrying capacity, and also because it makes the clerks watching self-checkout lanes more comfortable as I bag stuff in my own bags. Plus, they stay clean (I don't even put my produce in plastic or any other kind of bag - just directly on top of the other stuff in my workhorse.) The convenience of size allows me to keep them in my purse, which means I don't forget to bring them into the store. I didn't order this bag. It came free with my $50 order. I am so happy that they sent it to me. I LOVE IT! It is small, yet durable. I keep it in my purse and use it almost every day. Each time that I purchase something at a store, I pull out the bag. I vow to never use a plastic bag again! It is breathable, so I have also used it to take my gym clothes home in. I was a bit disappointed in these. The material is quite fine, not the thick sturdy mesh I had envisioned. I wonder how long they'd last under regular use or with heavy items. They fold up very small, which is an advantage, but they're difficult to handle when unfolding and finding the opening, etc. They're a bit smaller than expected. I'd choose something else next time. This is such an easy thing to do. Bring the bags with you. You can play hacky-sack with them on the way into the store (when they are in their easy store pouch). Then open one up to show the bagger when you are asked "Is plastic okay?" They are amazed at how much will go in them safely. I find I still need the cart because they can get very heavy. The two bags I ordered were delivered quickly... I tried unfolding them and restuffing them into their pouch right away, and found it to be quite easy. They hold slightly more than a standard plastic bag and are very strong. Best part is the mesh see-thru, which helps ease some wary self-checkout monitors/clerks. After I unpack the bags and stow my groceries, the "wet" from sweating cold products easily shakes out of the fabric so they're dry enough to tuck back into their pouches right away. They're compact and light, though if I needed to use more than 2 or 3 on one trip, porting the pouches into the store in my purse might be a bit challenging. By Stephanie P

I am a first time buyer on your website and am very pleased with my first purchase. I bought 5 grocery bags and they are everything you said they would be. Sometime cashiers give me the "this is going to be such a hassle" look when I give them my bags to use, but when I explain they fit perfectly on their stands, they change their minds! Also they love the convenience of the bags fitting their plastic bag frame for easy packing. For Christmas gifts I ordered 4 bags for each of my siblings and they have not stopped raving about them. I live in a rural area not at all convenient to shopping so when I first used these bags, I was worried that I would not be able to fit my weekly shopping in just five bags. What a surprise when it all fit. The bags are strong and easy to carry. I love them and take them everywhere, even to the book store. I have a number of these bags & use them for all my grocery shopping. the size when folded is so small....I used to have larger canvas bags and I always forgot them in the car, now I can clip 6 bags on my purse & have enough space for a weeks groceries. Wow! I got this bag for free in a promotion, and thought I might not use it much since I already have a bunch of string bags. But I put it (scrunched into its little sack) in my small purse, and used it the very next day! Having one on hand is perfect for the time when you aren't buying a lot, or don't want to haul lots of bags when you aren't sure if you're going to need them. Since buying 4 of these bags recently, I have been able to avoid at least 50 plastic grocery bags, plus bags from book stores, etc. It is a very good feeling to know that I am doing my tiny part to help the earth. I love the fact that these bags are see-through, that they fit over the bagging bars at the grocery store, that I can put one in my purse to always have one when I need it, and that they are machine washable. I can easily store one in my purse and another in my glove box so they are always at hand. In addition, the mesh design dries easily and is very strong. The Workhorse 1501 bags are really terrific. They hold much more than the standard grocery store plastic bags, they are very sturdy, they fit on the bag racks for the baggers, the handles at first appear too small but are actually very comfortable to hold, and they pack into their pouches like a dream. What great bags! I hesitated to start using reusable bags because of the bulk of carrying so many into the grocery store for weekly shopping, but these take no room at all. I leave them out of their pouches and just shove them inside one mesh bag, so it's really easy for the bagger to pull them out and use them. There are both negatives and positives about this bag. The part I like is that it folds up into itself into a tiny little ball that can be carried in a small purse or pocket. I keep two of them in my glove box. Just today I grabbed one of them before dashing into a department store to do a little shopping. The negative is that when you unfold them from the tight little wad, they look like a wrinkled old rag. The appearance isn't going to win anyone over to using these bags. They certainly have their place, though, in the pockets and glove boxes of anti-plastic consumers like myself who don't want to get caught without a bag! By Krista A

My favorite part of my bag is how absolutely lightweight and tiny it is before undoing it from its pocket. It takes up virtually NO space in my small purse. The slightly shiny look of the black weave is so chic! I have seen similar bags in stores but they do not compare to these in convenience of use and price. I bought my first bag in a store called Ma Maison in San Francisco, a pretty store that sells French products, but the owner carried Acme Bags because the French are good at using their own shopping bags. Went on the website and bought them online because the store didn't carry the black ones and I got 4. Ok, this is probably my favorite product of the four I purchased from Reusable Bags. This little bag folds up right into the attached envelope, is so lightweight that I don't even notice I'm carrying it and expands to fit whatever groceries I buy on the way home from work. I ride public transit and shop at a fruit and veg market a block from my house, so it totally solves the problem of wanting to use cloth bags but not lug them around on the train. Some friends and I ordered these bags and we were pleasantly surprised at how small they are when folded into their pouch and how large when open. They are a little bigger than the usual sized bags at the grocery store when open and you can easily fit one or two in a jeans pocket if you are going to shop. This bag was just as described on your web site. It fits very nicely into a purse or backpack taking up almost no space and yet can hold safetly much more than a plastic disposable bag. Since I received it I have used it at REI to carry camping supplies, at the grocery store to carry everything I purchased, at the wine store to carry 2 bottles without a problem and used it as an easy storage bag that would fit into any small space in the truck on a long car trip. The black mesh also looks nice enough that I do not mind walking in and out of stores with my purchases in it. Love the mesh option so you can see what's inside and they can air out. The cashiers love them - they fit on the racks they use and they're sturdy. The option to fold into itself is great and works well. It is weird that they're inside out when you first get them, but after you turn them right side out they stay that way. Highly recommended. I bought 2 of the mesh bags to use for produce items at the grocery store. When I went to Whole Foods they didn't even know what it was! Apparently St. Louis has a way to go in the reusable bag department... Anyway, it is fabulous for carrying produce. Very strong, easy to carry. A great pairing with the Heavy duty Earth Tote, which can hold much more. I keep my bags neatly folded in their pockets in my car trunk so I am ready anytime I go shopping. I tried to use one at Sears and they didn't like the idea of not having my items in a Sears bag, because they thought I may be accused of stealing... even though I had a receipt? Big hearts for the bags I ordered. These are my only complaints. When you pull the bag out of it's pouch, the bag itself is inside out. I also do not like the thickness of the handles. Not only do they feel 'bunched up' when you are holding them [especially when you are holding more than one at a time] but it is also difficult finding the opening of the handles when in a rush. That said I love the bags. I would not use these as reasons to not by the bags, just as suggestions for making a well designed bag even better. By Vivian A

Great grocery bags!!! I usually bring home at least 10-12 plastic grocery bags from the store, and now I can fit all my groceries in 6 mesh bags. They're supposed to be the same size as plastic bags, but they hold much, much more. Maybe they're a bit taller. The material is very strong and no problem with three bottles of juices/soda. The added benefit is that they stand up straight without everything inside toppling over. Last time I went to the pool with my kids, I put wet swimsuits and towels in one mesh bag at the end of the day without worrying about getting moldy and smelly. Highly recommended. By David C

A very nice bag of a design that I have been trying to find for several years because a green plastic-mesh earth bag I got about 17 years ago has begun to wear out due to constant use. Speaking of product longevity (which I imagine is a core value of your enterprise) - I notice that the double seam near the handle is showing signs of giving out. While this has not become an issue, over time it might. I bought four bags so that I could give them as gifts to anyone who seemed interested after seeing one in use, so I am unsure whether this "defect" is limited to one bag, or would occur in all four. I love these bags. They have the advantage of looking cooler than the string bags (that I also use) and they fit more easily on the grocers hooks. They hold the same amount of stuff as the disposables and so it doesn't confuse the clerks and bagger so much. They are so small, I can keep 2 in my purse for incidental shopping. What a terrific bag! It's very strong--when I first got it and wanted to test it at home, I put 2 gallons of milk in one bag and carried it around the house with no problem. The handles are comfortable, it holds a ton, and is very sturdy. I love it that it can go back into its tiny little pouch that's attached. I keep one with me wherever I go. By Kristen A

What a great bag and great idea! The bag is durable, easy to use, and I love the mesh look. For such a durable bag, I am amazed how light it is when folded up into its neat little pouch. I keep one in my purse so I always have a bag on hand for those unexpected trips to the store.
