Great product. Black is sleek and elegant, as well as able to hide dirt or stains. Two length of handles to choose from, very helpful. Mostly, though: STRONG. I've had these bags for at least 5 years, and they have held up with 2-3 times a week use. I'm only ordering more because our county has a "no plastic bag" ordinance in effect, and I want to make sure I have enough laying about to avoid the "oops, I forgot my bags!" moments. (a side note, I washed them once with my red kitchen rugs. Yup, now my bags a pink. At first I was disappointed-- pink not being my color-- but I have gotten so many "great bags!" compliments, I might "accidentally" wash them with my rugs again to get one-of-a-kind bags.) I have 2 black and 6 or 8 beige. I love these! They hold a lot! The two handle options are perfect when I need to sling half the groceries onto my shoulders and load up my hands for a single trip into the house. They DO shrink a bit (and become awfully wrinkled when air-dried) when washed (by hand in cold), so I recommend NOT using to tote freshly dug (aka dirty) produce home from the market. I anticipate these will last longer than the recycled plastic bags, and possibly even my cotton ones! By Diane Z

I've bought six of these. I even have it in the old brown-bag color, which you guys need to bring back! In fact, I think reuseit.com should offer this bag in more colors. It's just the best. I've given away two and still have four of my own. I rotate three bags for work and home and keep the fourth one unused, as a possible backup. I'm in love with this bag because it's strong, not overly long (and for short women, a longer bag is terrible because when you carry it in your hands, it drags on the sidewalk) and you can either use it as a shoulder bag or carry it using the short handles. I bought 8 of these bags in black, four for my car and four for my husband's car. I have used them for a few weeks now. They are very light, but seem to be strong and well made. I know from my experience using hemp inserts for cloth diapers that hemp is very durable. The black bags look great, and I love the slightly coarse feel of hemp. I find the dual handles to be slightly confusing at times, because as I try to pick up a filled bag I have to fumble to find the handles that I want (and get the same length of handle on each side), but not a big deal. The convenience of the different handle options is worth the tiny time delay experienced each time I pick the bag up. That said, if I was using this bag all day every day (using it as a main bag instead of just for grocery shopping), I would become very annoyed by the dual handles and would opt for a different bag. For using just for grocery shopping or to carry some overflow gear to the car, they are great. The black is nice, because it won't show dirt and stains easily. By Emilie L

These bags are absolutely wonderful! Made well with nice sturdy organic hemp fabric. Love the two handles. I have not had them for long but they really do hold a variety of things from groceries, to clothes, and recently random (heavy) camping related items. I was a bit hesitant prior to buying these bags since they are not designed to fold into a pocket or scrunch down compared to other bags. However, I'm so very glad I went with these because they make my other bags seem like a joke. They are easy to fold into a smaller size which is great. I got these on sale when they were $4 each. I ended up getting three of them. I like the hemp material (I'm a big fan of hemp products) but I do have a few complaints about these. As compared to the recycled PET version [ACM-042], these are much smaller, they also attract a lot more lint when washed (I have the black color). However, if you're just doing some light shopping, then these are great. I would recommend getting them only when they're on sale, though. By Stevie A

I have used these bags since they first came out (years) and they show no signs of needing replacemnet--so I bought them for everyone in my family for Christmas. They are washable and can easily be stored inside each other. I especially love the 2 lengths of handles, for when I am really loaded down with groceries. I can carry a huge watermelon, pumpkin or even a turkey easily in these bags. I live upstairs, so they are a big help transporting groceries/shopping items and many things up the stairs.Thank you!

Great bag, versatile, 2 handle lengths is a nice feature. I use this for shopping, to carry my kids' stuff to daycare, to gather all the miscellany we need for a car trip. I've used mine almost daily for about 2 years and just developed a small hole (now oversewn) in the bottom, but it has held up well to pretty constant use. It washes well, although a bit wrinkly afterward, the black color has held up through a couple of washes without much fading. No issues with color transfer when wet. By Beth A

Bought these hemp bags to replace a cotton canvas tote I was borrowing from a friend. The canvas tote was much thicker and heavier, and wouldn't pack down as small as these bags do, so I'm happier to have something lighter that seems to be about as strong. These bags are advertised with a feature that the canvas tote had as well, handles plus a shoulder strap. But in both cases, they're too short. The carry handles are ridiculously small, such that if the bag is very full, you can't bring them together to hold in one hand. The "shoulder straps" are indeed long enough to stick your arm through, but not long enough to put on the opposite shoulder, meaning I can't use them to carry the bag while I ride a bicycle, to which I'd become accustomed with the canvas tote. In fact, the "shoulder straps" on these bags are the same length as the shorter carry handles on that Whole Foods canvas tote. Add a few inches of material to the shorter handles, and a few more inches to the shoulder straps so that a normal person can sling it around the opposite shoulder, and these bags would be perfect. I was looking for simple classic bags and found exactly that with these hemp bags. one of the reasons I chose these over others was the Dual-Handles which I have found to be unnecessary to me. The long handles get in the way and make it harder to find the smaller handles. These would be good for perhaps shopping at a farmer's market, but just from check stand to cart to car there is no need for a shoulder strap. They seem to be well made but each bag has two large tags, one sewn on either side, I think I may cut off the tags. By amanda t

i really like the bag, but was distressed by the number of unnecessary tags- two fabric tags on the outside, one says "hemp" which is OK, i guess, and the other with an "acme bags" graphic- i hate carrying or wearing things with ANY company name on them...sorry, just won't do it. and inside, two non-biodegradeable, non-recycleable tyvek/plastic tags. yuck! totally not environmental at all. not only have i had to remove all the tags from the bags i bought (i silkscreened hundreds for a fundraiser) i thought of all the extra effort of attaching the tags in the first place. what a waste! and why do the bags look so plain and nice on the website? These bags are amazing! I use them for everything including groceries, library books, and as pool bags. I have had my bags for over a year and they hold up great no matter how much stuff I load into them. They are comfortable to wear and easy to carry. One warning: make sure to wash them in cold water only and hang to dry. I washed a few and put them in the dryer and they shrunk up significantly (I think the instructions warn you not to do this). I had these bags sent to Australia - South Australia has just banned the use of light weight plastic bags. The dual handled tote is better than brilliant. When they arrived, I regretted not buying a bag with a base, but have found these bags cope with all sorts of loads. The long handles mean that your hands are free, or if a load is heavy, then the short handles are perfect. In fairness, that grocer credits me five cents for each bag I present for them to fill. These will pay for themselves. They are light, seem quite strong and easy to manage. I have a few of the cotton bags that I got for shopping, but little by little they all got poached by family to use for all kinds of things. We all really like them because they are a good size. The dual handles are pretty convenient although sometimes seem like overkill. They're well made, they wash nicely and are a good size for carrying everything from my lunch to work, workout clothes, or groceries. I like to use them for produce and then put the whole bag in the fridge. I am just trying out the hemp ones and so far they feel a little stiff, but I assume they will soften with age and washing. I got one of these ACME Hemp bags as part of a mixed order and was not sure I liked it at first. The bags are much thinner and lighter than the thick organic cotton ones I was used to. However, upon using the bag I quickly became a HUGE fan. They have so many advantages, I ended up ordering another 13 more! I got the black hemp which is really nice since they look classier and hide any dirt so you don't have to wash them as frequently. One negative about light colored ones, especially living in a dusty climate, is they look dirty after only a couple of uses. With the black hemp ACME bags, you don't have that issue. They are super strong, so you get all the advantages of the thicker canvas ones. Hemp is very sturdy. Since they are also very light, you can roll them up and stick them in your purse. I tend to take about 4 at a time, roll up in my backpack then go grocery shopping. I am able to carry the four filled bags and the backpack and get all my groceries in there fine without worrying about the bags breaking while walking or on the bus. I am thinking of adding fabric paint designs and/or embroidery to some of the extra I bought to make even fancier ones for special events. I really love these bags. By Kim P

This bag is well-constructed and strong, but I find it difficult to use at the grocery store. It does not stand up well on its own and doesn't fit over the racks so it is very hard to load groceries into it. It will probably be a better bag for the farmers' market since I can leave it hanging on my shoulder and load things into it. These bags carry alot of items, though at first glance you may think differently. I was able to out 3 lbs of oranges, 3lbs of apples and 5 lbs of potatoes in one bag. The other thing that surprised me was that I love the short handle option. I wanted bags with longer handles so that I could throw them on my shoulder, as my other bags are not made for that. The short handles allowed me to easily carry heavier loads without the bags dragging on the ground. As I'm only 5'2" I found this to be a perk, my 6'2" husband has never had this problem. I love these bags. We have used them for years and they never tear. The handles are very durable. We bough them this time to decorate for christmas presents. We used acrylic paints and they came out great. I was a little disappointed with the shipping. It took over a week to get to us. It said they usually process the next day. It is well sewn, and opens like a paper bag, but somewhat larger, and certainly stronger. I purchased this as a gift for a monthly door prize in one of my groups: my goal is to have a handsome and well made alternative to plastic/paper shopping bags for everyone in the group. I purchased 4 of these. These bags are deceiving in size. I really stuffed them up with all of my grocery shopping. For example one bag can hold 6 cartons of soy milk.I have yet to find any bag that will hold more then 2 & not be a over-sized bag. Also it didn't stretch out the bag with the weight of 6 soy cartons. They fold right back up to original shape & I'm able to tuck them into the pocket right behind my seat in my truck. Reusable shopping bags are the future. This ACME hemp tote is pretty good. I have only had it for about a month, so I can't attest to its durability yet. I was initially disappointed by its size when I first got it. I still wish it were a bit bigger, but baggers in my area know to stuff a reusable bag until it's full, so I can get all of my grocries into three of these bags on 90% of my shopping trips (for a single person who rarely eats out). The shortcoming of this process is that my delicate items like leafy baby greens and soft fruits sometimes suffer. The dual handle design is handy occasionally because these bags get heavy when stuffed full, and it's nice to throw the third bag over my shoulder. On the other hand, when I'm in a hurry it can be slightly annoying to grab the wrong two handles of a half-filled bag and watch the contents tumble to the floor. Overall it's a good product. Two suggestions for improvement: increase capacity by 20% and install snaps or buttons to keep the long handles secured inside the bag when not in use. I love this bag, this is the second one of this type that I got (have both the cream color and black color now), it is a good price. It is lightweight and easy to use for anything from groceries to mall to discount store shopping. I also like the fact that it is hemp, which is so much easier on the environment than growing cotton or using wood or plastic. The only downside is that it cannot roll up into a compact form (compared to the ACME workhorse) to throw into your purse or glove box. By Amanda M

These bags rock. I got them because they were made of hemp. They carry a ton of stuff. I once filled it with three 2 liter soda bottles. The one recommemation I have to improve the bag would be to make the short and long handles different colors. I go to pick up the bag a somehow always grab one short handle and one long one. I bought a weeks worth of groceries for 5 people and needed no more bags than what I bought. They hold alot more than plastic bags, but somehow they felt lighter. One bag was full of canned goods. They don't feel like they are going to break like the plastic bags, and I love the dual handles. My kids also liked them. My 10 year old said "wow Mom, these are so much easier". These bags are great in that they're small enough not to feel cumbersome yet big enough to stuff lots of things in. The double handles are really nice too. I was glad to find this site offering a reasonably priced cloth bag. I ordered four. They are fairly lightweight, but are quite sturdy and easily carry 20 pound of groceries. The only feature I didn't care for was the two sets of handles on each bag -- a long pair and a short pair. They just got in the way of each other. I finally cut the long handles off and just used the short ones. It might be better to offer bags with either long or short handles rather than both. If these bags wear out, I would buy more. These totes are big enough and strong enough to carry at least twice the groceries the store plastic bags hold, yet they are small enough to fit inside my purse so I can carry one with me whenever I need it. I don't have the plastic bag piles I used to have and I don't have to worry about how long it will take for the bag to degrade in the landfill. I purchased two of these bags and I love them! I work in a grocery store and I know how much bags cost and many get wasted! We have a recycle bin and hardly anyone brings their bags back to be recycled. These bags hold so much more than a typical grocery bag and they are so much stronger. I can get my usual groceries and it all fits in my two bags...and I don't have a million plastic bags laying around waiting to be taken back. If you are looking for a strong and "cool" looking bag to bring to the grocery store I reccomend this one. (I have discovered that hemp is a great material and enjoy seeing it's different uses!) These are great! Checkout clerks take them in stride because they're close in size and shape to a standard plastic grocery bag -- but they hold a lot more because you can cram them to the brim. They are light, they are strong, the shoulder straps are comfortable even with a very heavy load of books or groceries, and if you fold one in quarters lengthwise, roll it up, and cinch it down with its own straps, it's about the size of a pair of socks. I love these bags. They are lightweight and easily portable---I can tuck them in my pocket book. I really like that they are very clean looking--just plain black, and so it goes with everything. They are very sturdy--I packed mine with tons of groceries and the handles were still comfortable on my shoulder and in my hands. There is a little tag that says "Hemp" on it, and it is a small edgy detail. (I feel like I'm being conscious without screaming it to all.) A few people have complimented my bags though, and seemed surprised that it was made of hemp....I guess they expected a heavier burlap type of material--but it is so thin and light. I just got my re-usable bags in the mail and used them yesterday at the food store for the first time. I loooove them! I also used them for a shopping trip to Target. They're great. You can fit a lot into each bag and mine have the long straps for carring on your shoulder and the short ones for hand held carrying. We were able to carry a lot of bags at once very comfortably. My daughter bought 50 natural hemp bags and 50 black hemp shoppng bags to resell as a fundraiser for her choir trip to Wales next summer. Everyone so far seems to love the product, and most people buy multiple bags. They are small enough to fold up and keep in your glove compartment so they are ready for shopping. Thisd has been a great fundraiser for her. I simply love these bags! They not only hold an incredible amount of weight, they feel nice "in hand" and their humble good looks DO get noticed! (keep your eye on them or "bury them" under some stuff in your cart; they get taken! ask me how i know!!)
