I love these bags. They are very heavy weight and can hold anything I am strong enough to carry when I leave the grocery store. I bought my first ones 4 years ago and they are still going strong... This is a great bag. I use it for every type of shopping. It is very sturdy, I have carried 5 2-liters of soda in this bag. I like that it stands up like a paper sack. My old Earthtote bags don't do this, I think because they are not made from recycled materials. I have been using my old bags for several years of heavy use and the bottom seams are starting to show wear. Hopefully these new bags will stand up as long. The price is a little higher than I would like to pay but when you consider the years of use from each bag I guess they are worth it. By Susan H

Love it! I used this to hold my carry on things for a flight and it was perfect. I could put things I needed easy access to (like my boarding pass) in the outer pocket. And the bag stands up, so it was easy to find things during the flight. It fits under the seat in front, which is necessary during take off and landing. I love loave lerve these bags. Now, for the first time, I can bag my groceries in bags that stand up instead of flopping over at the wrong time. I use the self-checkout and these bags will stand in the plastic bag dispenser frames that are designed into the area. I also carry a big insulated bag by California Innovators for things that need to stay cold, and with these wonderful PET bags and that one I am set for grocery shopping! I bought several to hand to friends to encourage them to be green. I use them myself and find them perfect for grocery shopping, as well as lots of other uses. I put my hiking boots in them so that I can change into them once I arrive at my hiking destination. I use them to carry picnic stuff to the park and beach towels to the beach. My husband and I have used these for a couple of years as our grocery bags, and there is nothing better. They are easily packed by the checkers, as they mimic the paper bags, they are supremely sturdy, will hold any weight that will fit inside, and hold up well. The store checkers often admire them and ask where we got them--and they see a lot of bags! I can't imagine how many paper or plastic bags we have replaced with these. This bag was so much easier to use than less expensive, smaller bags (for purchase at checkouts everywhere) that I came back for two more. Checkout staff seem to be able to pack these better than other reusable bags and the handles can support a good size load -- saving me trips from the car to my second floor unit. I LOVE these bags! We've given these as gifts to family and friends. I've actually used mine so much that I wore them out! That's not a quality defect, I've really put them through a lot of hard work and they've stood the test of time. Now it's time for new ones. These are sturdy. I do like the new recycled PET Acme Bags. They look good and hold several items. I ordered them to replace some cotton bags that I got a few years ago. One thing that I'm disappointed in is that they do not stand open like a paper bag, as advertised. That was one of the appealing features to me, since the soft cotton ones tended to collapse so easily. But I will certainly cope with the new ones. Regarding the PET produce bags, I do like them a lot compared to the old cotton mesh bags. The personnel at grocery checkouts are able to see and scan the items, which was not so easy with the old ones. Overall, I sincerely like Reuseable Bags. I purchased 4 of these bags about 2 months ago after feeling fed-up with other PET bags that come from the grocery stores. These bags are in another class to themselves. They are sturdy, yet soft to the feel, stand up on their own when packing them (grocery store packers love them...and thus treat me better!). They fold up easily and stow-away perfect in the car. I even bring them to Farmers Market now because they are so much more functional and sturdy. They are worth every penny of their high price and more! My sanity around grocery shopping/bags has been returned with grace ten fold, and that alone was worth the price of the bags. For shopping at grocery stores nothing even compares with these bags. I'm delighted with these bags! They are large, sturdy and easy to load. The handles are secure, so there are no worries about dropping a fully-loaded bag. I didn't think I cared about an outside pocket, but it is surprisingly useful for coupons & frequent buyer cards (I carry them on a separate ring rather than on my keychain.) With no advertising on the bags, I feel free to use them anywhere. Although the total of my order for a 1/2 dozen bags might have seemed steep, I have no complaints. I am glad to have new reusuable bags to replace my very old and battered set, but I was a bit disappointed with these bags when they came. They are somewhat smaller than I expected and much more floppy. Although some of the descriptions I read indicated that they stand on their own and hold their shape, I have trouble getting them to do so for more than a few seconds without holding up one side. I also wish the PET bags came with the dual handle option - the short handles are not a good length for me. I think I will use these bags often and they will meet my needs satisfactorily, but in the future, I would purchase a different kind of bag that is bigger, has longer handles, and holds its shape easily on its own. I'd been using green bags purchased at Publix for my grocery shopping, but I wanted larger and sturdier versions to expand their usefulness, versatility and longevity. The PET EarthTote met my requirements and has exceeded my expectations. I especially like the side pockets for holding flat or flimsy items. I keep several of them in the kitchen, the garage and in both vehicles so there's no excuse not to use them for just about anything. I've gotten many compliments the bags and several inquiries about where to buy them. I have just one suggestion for improvement: the EarthTote needs something that will keep its bottom flat when placed on a level surface so it will stand upright. These are fantastic. Great for shopping with kids, because I can fit the same amount of groceries in six of these bags that would fill about 10-12 paper bags. If the cart is full, you can sling them over your shoulder (not a great option with a paper sack). They can hold a ton of weight. I've had them stuffed with cans to the point where I can't hardly lift them, but they hold up perfectly. Someone recently stole mine from my cart!!! Who does that? I use these totes for the grocery store, drugstore, picking up the mail and magazines from my cluster mail box, any type of retail shopping, carrying things to and from the car, carrying things to and from upstairs and down, road trip access bags and even once for a hair protector in the rain! These are the best totes I have ever purchased or seen. Unlike many other recycled totes, which are also great for the environment. These offer the sturdiness and shape of a "framed paper bag with shape and storage capacity to get so much in them and stay organized, unlike other totes, where everything slides together, much like plastic bags....I won't even go there! I consider myself to be a "eco-friendly frugalista". Fantastic! I absolutely love these bags. They are perfect for the grocery shopping. They are about the same size as a paper grocery bag, but they hold so much. And the handles are a huge bonus. This was my second order for Earth Totes. The first order was for the cordura nylon bags, and this order was for the recycled PET Earth Totes. These are really fabulous bags, and they were a great bargain during the recent sale. Earth Totes are spacious, tough, and a lot safer to carry than brown paper bags. I stuff them full of paper and cardboard recylables, so now I have to make fewer trips to the recycling center. Never a rip, and easy to clean too. I'll be using these bags for many years to come, and I will feel really good about it too. I love some of the lightweight, foldable bags as well, but you can't beat the Earth Totes for really big jobs. They also happen to be quite good looking, so you can use them in public for carrying anything that needs strength. Great product! By James M

We have been using our new reusable bags for our purchases at WalMart. We buy our groceries there. We love the durability and the amount of room the bags have. We are very pleased with the quality. However the cashiers are not happy that we bring our own bags. They say they take longer to put groceries in because they don't fit on the hooks of the plastic bag turntable. They inform me that if I buy the reusable WalMart bags that they have loops that fit on their bag hooks. Now I have to place one at a time on top of the turntable and it takes longer for them. It doesn't bother me but so far none of the cashiers I have had likes my bags. They agree it is a good idea to use the bags. These bags are great! They are the size of a standard paper bag, and they do hold their shape when you are filling them. I use them for my grocery shopping and support the bottoms while I hold the handle when I use them for heavier loads. I like them because unlike paperbags you can put wet items (like drippy produce) and they don't come apart and all you have to do is turn them over and they dry fastI like the fact that they are paperbag coloured personally. Though I first balked at the price, since i have received them and noticed how durable they are i realize they will be around for a long time and the fact that i dont have paperbag tree killing guilt makes them totally worth while! My only critque of this site is that people should see how much shipping is BEFORE they decide to purchase NOT that shipping was expensive, it is just some people like to know ALL the costs upfront. These bags are excellent. I've had them for a few months. I can load them up with heavy stuff and never had a problem yet. They are big like large paper bags but because they are sturdy and have handles so weight is never an issue. I can stuff them full and end up with my whole grocery supply in 3 or 4 bags (vs. two or three times that for paper/plastic). Highly recommended. One tip - unless you walk to where you shop, keep the bags in your car so you'll always have them. Also, if you keep/make a grocery list, add a note to remember the bags. It takes a while to get used to using them if you are new to bringing your own bags. And it is no fun to buy them and only remember in line that you forgot them. By Stephen B

I LOVE my bags. I ordered 10 before, but my husband asked me to order more! We use them for groceries, carrying re-cycling, laundry, and any other chore that comes up around the house. It beats buying another plastic bin at a similar price for the same task. I even take one to the mall to elinate all those paper bags. I bought 3 recycled PET earth tote bags and have gotten groceries twice since the bags arrived. I love them. I do get a few interesting looks as I'm bagging, but I think that's just because people can't believe the amount of stuff that the bag can handle. I stick them in the cart and pack away and because they replicate a brown paper bag, it's incredibly easy to pack. And they don't tip as easy in the car. I typically use 5 brown paper bags and a couple of plastic but can fit all that into these 3. Handles are very sturdy. My biggest complaint is my own issue -- I forget to bring along the bags when I do other shopping! It's just getting use to carrying my own bags. I am thinking about buying two more so my husband and I can keep one in each of our cars. I had no problems with ordering or recieving the shipment. It was great to be able to track the package. I always encourage baggers to super stuff them and the baggers are consistently amazed at how much these bags will hold. When I read reviews that said that folks got complimented on these bags and had cashiers and baggers ask them where they got them, I thought, "Yeah, right, not at my commissary (military grocery store)." We are very happy with the ACME Recycled PET EarthTotes we ordered, and highly recommend them. As many of the other reviewers noted, they are very strong, comfortable to carry, and really do carry a ton of groceries...Just one of these bags can hold what used to take 3 to 4 plastic bags. So now, not only are we not using any plastic bags anymore, but it makes loading groceries into the car and bringing them into the house so much easier, because it takes fewer trips. We bought 10 bags, but usually end up using 6-8 bags (for a family for 4: 2 adults and 2 children). One note: When these bags are fully packed to the top, they can be a bit heavy. I can carry 2-3 bags in each hand at a time, but my wife can usually only carry 1 in each hand...So, you may want to order a few more than you think you might need because you may have to pack them half-full. These bags are great -- they're the same size as regular brown paper grocery bags, but much, much stronger, so you can really pack them, and not have to worry about holding on to the bottom. Because you can put so much in them, they may be heavier, but you don't have to make so many tripes from the car to the house! The first one I got (as a gift) was one of the non-recycled bags, and I think those ones actually stand up on their own a little better than these do (the recycled ones tend to collapse a little bit, so you have to hold one side when you're loading them). It's not a deal-breaker, though. It's great not to have all those paper and plastic grocery bags clogging up my pantry, and I find I use them for much more than just groceries -- I put dry cleaning in them, and take them with me when I'm running regular errands. I like this bag so far, it's very large and holds alot of stuff, and strong. I do like that is stands up on it's own, compared to my chico bags which I have to usually hold or hang on the little plastic bag holders but they fall off. The only thing I don't like is that when you fill it the bottom just falls down, not like a regular paper bag where the bottom of the bag stays flat when you pick it up. We actually bought several of these as Christmas gifts to distribute to family and friends. Our small step toward reducing waste. None of the recipients had seen the EarthTote before and responded quite positively toward its design, materials and function. My qualifier to all was "if you will not use this give it back". No one has yet returned it. Out of our total order we kept two for ourselves. It's rare for us to go to the grocery store and only come away using one shopping bag. Plus with two hands on two sets of handles to carry them out... it just makes sense. Another important factor in the design of this product is that it is very strong so you can carry much more than what either a plastic or paper bag ever could. Also our Kroger store credits us a nickel for using a reusable bag rather than one of their's - a great incentive. Before purchase I researched many other reusable bags types from several companies and this one appeared the best overall product. While I have not invested in your other bag designs, I am very impressed with all aspects of the EarthTote. It really has the best overall characteristics for basic grocery/market shopping. We have been enjoying our ACME totes, and were thrilled you've added these to the ACME line. It's gratifying to use a fabric made from old plastic bottles, which after only one recycling, usually end up either in landfill or in an incinerator (or even more horrifyingly, in our waterways).They are the same size as the heavy duty ACME bags, but much, much lighter in weight. Whereas the other bags feel as though they are made of heavily coated canvas, these feel like nylon and are even more of a breeze to tote along on our bikes. While the other ones are a lovely mustard shade (they really are gorgeous), these are very close to a paper bag colour, so it is all the more witty to pull them out in the check-out queue, when one is asked "paper or plastic," after when we say "no, thank you!" I have had the best experiences using them. The clerks always comment, sometimes other customers in line do also. One clerk remembers me & the bags, & likes the way the bags stay standing when open. I read in some of the other reviews that the bags don't stay open but my experience has been that they do with a little help. They load up easily, & hold a lot. They also feel good to touch, I love telling people that they are made with plastic bottles. You'd never guess that. They have made great gifts, also. They feel like they will last forever. These bags are so useful. Their appearance is very nice, looking a lot like a very "upscale" paperbag, & the pocket on the outside is handy for lists & receipts. Despite what some of the other reviews state, I find that they do stand up mostly on their own, much more so than most cloth bags, negating the need for me to have to help the checker by holding the bag open. That was always an issue with the canvas/cotton tote bags I used to use. These bags also fold in a close approximation of the old paper bags. Altogether one of the best alternatives I have ever used. Extremely strong, fold up flat like paper bags so it's easy to take several to the store. With 6-7 of these, I can do even the BIG grocery shopping and fit it all in. My husband keeps a couple in his car for his grocery stops on the way home too, and is equally impressed by them, won't use anything else now. I LOVE these bags! They always trigger a lot of comments and questions from other shoppers and the clerks when I'm at the store and hand them to the grocery sacker. The sackers are always impressed with how much they hold. The bags easily hold a lot of groceries and the handles are strong and comfortable no matter how much stuff you put in them. This is so much better than those dozens of plastic bags you end up with if you don't take your own bags, and much friendlier to our planet. Thank you for answering my email. I have used the new bags for grocery shopping. They are not as heavy as the first ones I ordered, but they do work all right. I just prefer the first bags more. They stay open and are easier to put the gorceries in. If you would like me to try a different one I would be happy to give it a try. I really like bringing my own bags to the store. I got so tired of dragging all those plastic bags back to the grocery store and using them until they fell apart. Even then, they became pollution. I bought four Recycled PET Earth Totes, size and shape of paper grocery bags with a pouch on the side. I bring them to Fairway Market in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and the checkers are very impressed. I fill them to the brim, and the roomy handles make them so easy to carry. This is a great use for recycled plastic bottles and containers. They are sturdy, and I'll use them forever. Size excellent. Durability appears good so far. Like the outer pocket. Wife very happy about shape (square bottoms) - she worked at a grocery in high school and knows something about bags, and she likes these better than I do. (My one reservation: bags do not, in fact, stay open when empty - they tend to collapse. My wife says this is not a problem, and perhaps she's right - a more rigid bag might wear worse, and packing isn't hindered much if at all.) I haven't packed one of these; the baggers at our groceries like 'em and fill 'em all the way up - which can make them quite heavy. They don't stand up on their own, but they have so far been very sturdy, able to carry a LOT of groceries, and washed well in the washing machine. Love these bags! I am so glad I bought them. They're super strong and they look great. We are a family of four and buy a lot of food every week, so I bought six bags to be on the safe side. I've only used three so far! They hold so much food and that means less trips back and forth from my car to the house. The kids love giving them to the cashier and we feel like we're really doing our part to help the environment, especially since they are PET. The bag I ordered is great. It is high quality and large enough for my needs with strong handles and a side pocket. I keep it folded up in the compartment under my front seat middle armrest. I like to do my shopping as I drive home from work to save gas -- I rarely do shopping on the weekends if I can avoid making special trips. I go by two different grocery stores on my way home from work. I live alone and I don't mind stopping by the grocery stores a couple of times a week to pick up fresh items. I just keep the bag in the small carrying basket when I enter the store and use it at checkout or self checkout when I leave. I have had a couple of people ask me about it in the store. The dark sage is a lot darker than I thought it would be, but the bags hold so much more than I think they will. My one annoyance with the bags is that they definitely do NOT stand up. I read another review that said they did, and I am convinced that that particular person was reviewing a different bag. These are quite floppy. Overall, I'm satisfied, but if I had to do it again, I would probably get bags that stood up by themselves. Love the bags, the material, the color, etc. I do notice that due to their length, they sometimes graze the ground. Perhaps shortened handles would help? It would also be nice to have shoulder straps included so one would have the option of carrying by hand, or putting over the shoulder. Dear Reusable Bags, I am an avid users of re-usable grocery bags. I have always just used canvas bags. After encountering your site, I was quite excited, particularly about the Recycled bags -- excellent use of recycled products. However, I am disappointed with the construction of the Recycled PET EarthTote. The bag is not easy to carry as the handles are too short. The bag barely stands on its own, unlike the ACME Earth Tote. Also, the bottom of the bag is not terribly strong and doesn't support heavy products well (I ended up walking home supporting the bottom of the bag with my hand).
