So what’s so awesome about baking with silicone? Some of us on the Reuseit team are longtime bakers and we were wondering if silicone bakeware could turn us away from our favorite heavy, metal bakeware we so dearly loved. After doing some research, we were convinced that silicone WAS the best option for the environment. We hope this post will also make you “silicone believers” too. But first we’d like to sing our praises of silicone. Highly durable, silicone doesn’t contain the estrogen-like chemicals found in plastic making it the safest option on the market. According to Eco LunchBox™, silicone resists oxidative deterioration (normal aging) for decades. Studies have actually shown that silicone thrives on outside elements, including exposure to extreme heat or cold, salt spray, U-V radiation and more. Silicone is also kinder to our planet. Consumer advocate, Debra Lynn Dadd says silicone “is not toxic to aquatic or soil organisms, it is not hazardous waste, and while it is not biodegradable, it can be recycled after a lifetime of use.” If disposed in a landfill for incineration, unlike plastic silicone is converted back into harmless ingredients: amorphous silica, carbon dioxide and water vapor. Silicone bakeware truly ELIMINATES WASTE. Why? Because thanks to silicone bakeware, you don’t need disposable parchment paper or cupcake liners (which means it saves you money, too!). Heck since it’s non-stick, you don't even need baking spray—so you can keep the nasty chemicals from aerosol sprays out of your kitchen. According to EarthTalk, aerosol sprays still contain hydrocarbons and/or compressed gases that are known for their contribution to global warming. Every time you hit the button, you’re still adding to your carbon footprint
It makes BAKING a BREEZE. Easy to store, lightweight and portable are just a few perks of baking with silicone. Since most silicone bakeware and cookware is collapsible, it’s ideal for bakers or chefs with small kitchens or for those who don’t have a lot of storage space. And it’s lightweight, so you can easily lift it on or off the stove or in and out of the oven. Non-stick silicone bakeware also makes removing your baked goods from the square pan, loaf pan or cupcake pan super easy. You simply push the baked good right out of the flexible silicone—no stick, no fuss.
Reuseit silicone stock pot
Collapsed stock pot[ Silicone bakeware is EASY to CLEAN and DURABLE. Silicone doesn’t stain. Seriously. We cooked some very messy ribs in our Collapsible Stock Pot and the very tomato-y BBQ sauce came right off. That’s right, just a touch of soap and some warm water, will have your silicone bakeware looking good as new. Plus, it’s very durable. Silicone won't dent or rust like metal bakeware. Unlike glass or ceramic bakeware, you can bump or drop it. We can’t guarantee it’ll bounce, but it certainly won’t break! It’s soft, flexible material also makes silicone bakeware safer to use (especially for kids) since there’s no worry of sharp edges or broken pieces. But, the best part? It COOKS JUST LIKE OTHER BAKEWARE. Silicone bakeware is even safe to use in the microwave, freezer or dishwasher. You don’t need a special oven or fancy utensils, and the baked goods you create taste just as good. You’ll also have peace of mind knowing you’ve saved money, reduced your carbon footprint and reduced waste in your kitchen. Score.
