"Best rechargeable batteries" - Consumer Reports Nov. 2009

Looking for a rechargeable battery to replace disposable batteries for a wide range of uses? Eneloop rechargeable batteries provide the environmental benefits of rechargeables with the high performance of alkaline disposables. Great for use in most applications, they can be recharged up to 1500 times. An easy way to cut back on another common household disposable, saving money and natural resources - without compromising performance.

Voltage: 1.2V
Typical Capacity: 2000mAh

Design and Functionality
Eneloop rechargeable batteries combine the power and versatility of alkaline disposables with the cost savings and environmental benefits of traditional rechargeable batteries. Unlike typical rechargeable batteries, eneloops won't lose charge quickly when not in use. In fact, after one year, an eneloop battery will retain 80 percent of its charge, while other rechargable batteries will only retain about 20 percent. Plus, there’s no memory effect, so you can recharge them before they are completely discharged, without lowering the total power capacity.

Eneloop batteries come pre-charged, so you can begin using them right away, and you can charge them at your convenience. Their long run time makes makes them suitable for a wide range of applications, including cameras, music players, flashlights, clocks, remote controls and more. At less than 2 cents per recharge, they pay for themselves in less than two cycles.

Use with eneloop’s Universal Charger.

Materials
Eneloop batteries have similar construction to typical Ni-MH batteries. However, the self-discharge rate has been reduced by using a new superlattice alloy that increases the capacity of the battery and reduces internal resistance – allowing for higher currents. This alloy also reduces the amount of cobalt needed for the battery to perform.

Sustainability
Since it can be recharged 1500 times, each eneloop battery has the potential to eliminate 1499 disposable batteries from landfills over its lifetime. Americans alone dispose of 8 billion alkaline batteries per year, and 40 billion are disposed world-wide. If every battery was replaced by eneloop, more than 39.9 billion cells would be kept from landfills, annually. Packaging made from recyclable PET and recycled paper. At their end of life, eneloop batteries can be recycled just like alkaline batteries.

About Sanyo Component Europe GmbH
The Japanese word “SANYO” means “three oceans” (Pacific, Atlantic and Indian, specifically), and this symbolized the company’s global perspective, which is based on the vision “Think GAIA” (Greek for "earth"). The company is committed to providing cutting-edge solutions for a sustainable world. Product range now includes industrial and consumer batteries and photovoltaic products.

Care Instructions
Store in a cool, dry place (e.g. in a drawer, under the bed, in a closet). Keep away from high heat. Storage temperature can affect battery performance. Too-high temperatures can cause the battery to discharge faster. However, eneloop performs better than alkaline and rechargeable batteries in freezing temperature.

Can be recycled after use, just like alkaline batteries.

5.0 Have a long charge life.

Comments about Product:

I received these before Christmas and have played holiday CDs on a compact player literally all day for several days. I've had to change/charge the batteries in the unit (2) only once in about a week and a half. Impressive. I also have three of the batteries in a lighted winter scene display and those have yet to be recharged.

5.0 Awesome!

Comments about Product:

Bought 4 packs and they were ready to go fresh out of the box, as expected. Consumer Reports says these are the best rechargeables and so far we are very pleased!

5.0 Good Product

Comments about Product:

These reusable hold their charge for a a couple of months. I use them in a wireless keyboard and mouse that I use for work, 8 hours a day, five days a week. They take several hours to charge however, so it's good to have a backup set (or some alkaline batteries) on hand. The charging instructions are not included with the batteries and are important to follow for proper battery charging/life.

If charging just 2 of 4 batteries, place the two batteries side by side in the charging slots at on end of the battery holder. The light on the charger will flash to indicate that charging has begun. The light will be steady when they are charged. Don't plug in upside down! The plug is not polarized, but you still must be sure to insert it in the receptacle so that the batteries are right side up. If they are upside down, they will finish charging more quickly, but won't be fully charged; reducing their life.

5.0 Love so much, gave as gifts

Comments about Product:

I LOVE these batteries. They last for a month or more in my digital camera. They recharge quickly and hold a charge nicely. Plus, they come precharged. I adore them so much, I bought them to give as Christmas gifts this year. Also, I use an Energizer charger I already had to charge them and that seems to work fine.

5.0 rechargeable batteries

Comments about Product:

I like the idea of having rechargeable non-toxic batteries. Getting rid of old batteries is a big problem.

5.0 Great Performance & Economical.

Comments about Product:

I'm a wedding photographer and for a given event we bring 3-4 flash units with us that just go through batteries like crazy. We tried using other rechargeables and they performed so pitifully that we switched back to regular batteries. Then we found these - they are amazing! They last much longer than other rechargeables, and in my experience, last longer in our flashes than regular batteries. In the photography community, Eneloop is known as the brand to buy. We have about 5-6 4-packs and plan to buy more. We use them in all of our office electronics that take AA's as well - wireless mouse, labeler, etc. We ended up purchasing a bigger charger to do more at once since we need to take a lot with us to events. Some of our eneloops have been charged dozens of times and still work great. These are really a no brainer.

5.0 The only batteries you'll ever need

Comments about Product:

I am glad to see that reuseit is now carrying these batteries. I originally bought mine from amazon and they are the best batteries that I have ever had. The charge last for a long time and recharge time is relatively quick (around 4 hours for an empty battery). I use them for my video game controllers and flash lights, although it is not recommended to use these for emergency backup batteries since they do slowly drain. Because these can be recharged up to a 1000x, you will never need to buy another battery again (unless you do some heavy battery usage), so these are definitely worth the price. I recommend buying the charger + AA (x4) pack first and then going from there, just make sure that you charge only the same type of batteries in the same slots (ie: slot 1+2, or slot 3+4, but not slot 1+3 or slot 2+4).
