These bags work very well. Not as see through as I would like because codes on fruit cannot be seen and have to be removed when checking out. I keep them on a caribiner and clip them to the cart when shopping and bought reusable Velcro electronic cord organizers that I secure to the bag side tab for extra security. Works great! By Amy

I've been using these for about 9 months now, and they are awesome! Lightweight, sturdy and machine washable. I was worried that heavier, "poky" produce like corn on the cob or sweet potatoes might rip the bags...but so far, no problems. The only downside is that the bags won't keep your produce fresh as long as a traditional plastic bag. But I just re-use plastic bags for my more sensitive produce. By Margaret S

I always hated throwing out the plastic produce bags, but I didn't have any ideas for them. I love using these! They are lightweight and the draw string is perfect. I have used these bags on several trips to the grocery store. I never pack my purchases into plastic bags at check-out but still end up with fist-fulls of smaller plastic bags for loose produce items. It is so nice to be consistent, bypassing plastic throughout the store. The bags are large enough to accommodate any and all items that would otherwise go into the tear-off plastic bags - bags which would end up in landfills. I've been trying to move my family towards more re-usable and sustainable practices and this was just another step in the process. I love taking these bags to the grocery store and filling them up with fresh produce! It sure beats trying to get those slippery bags off the rolls and they usually end up splitting open anyway.Here's a few Pro's:
Easy to use with a drawstring handle
Hold a lot of produce (apples, lettuce, peppers, etc.)
Small enough to carry in my purse so I don't forget them
Don't retain moisture on the produce that I pick up
Cashier was easily able to see through the bags to get the code
Can be used to store items in the fridge for easy identification
Inexpensive
Cons:
None although I think I have to get more since I usually buy more than 5 different types of produce in a visit.
I would also like some that are a bit taller for my herbs that I buy.
I bought some for my Mom too and she's been loving them.

We just received 2 sets of these produce bags and tried them for the first time yesterday. Our biggest concern was whether the self adhesive bar-code labels that we print in our supermarket's produce and bulk sections would adhere to the bags and subsequently be able to be removed. Happily, the labels held well enough to make it to the checkout and peeled off easily at home, leaving no residue. We don't envision ever using disposable plastic bags again and will likely buy more of these as gifts. By J. D

I bought ten of these and my husband (the cook and fridge manager) loves them. He takes them shopping and he uses them to store our weekly CSA veggies.Beware!! They will not keep your veggies as long as the thin plastic you're used to unless you add a humidity/gas reducing "produce saver" to the crisper.

We previously used the "reuseit Produce and Snack Bag, Organic Cotton Net" bags, but weren't satisfied b/c it was harder to see through them (including for grocery clerks ringing you up) and after using awhile they get kind of nasty (I later saw here that there's a warning on it that b/c of natural fibers mold can grow).These new ones are great. Love that they are truly see-through. Sturdy construction. Drawstring closes & opens easily. Once they're used and you're ready to store them for the next time, they scrunch up enough that they don't take up too much room (though our old cotton net ones take up less room, that's their only positive). Size is large enough to accommodate most produce.
If you want some produce bags for larger things like lots of bananas/big heads of lettuce, I suggest Blue Avocado bags, size=large -- they look a little different and have a black-and-white trim which actually is better so that you can easily & quickly tell in the store which ones are the large ones.

i have been looking for fruit/veggie bags like these for a long time and these are perfect! they hold a lot of fruit (8 apples with room for one or two more!) are easy to clean and once you get into the habit of grabbing them before you head out, you are all set. I have 10 altogether for a family of 5 and i haven't had to use a plastic bag at the store in nearly a month! Sometimes the checker is willing to let you have two types of veggies in the same bag and they will just take them out to weigh them. I would highly recommend these to anyone who is looking to drastically reduce their plastic bag consumption . .. :) By Dawn B

I have used these bags several times both at a "traditional" grocery store and also at my health co-op. The bags are very strong and hold even large items like collards and kale as well as heavy items like apples & onions. I always ask the people checking me out what they think of these produce bags and they like them. The bags are easy to see the numbers through and with the pull string you don't need bag ties.I plan to order another set because they are also good to store items
in the refrigerator as air passes through the fabric so produce doesn't

I was very pleased with both the quality of these bags and the fact that the cashier can see what is in them, without touching your produce (I had issues in the past with canvas bags). These are a great size. The only thing that annoys me is when you pull the bag closed, the drawstring is very long and gets tangled when you have a full fridge. Great set of reusable bags. Construction seems durable and as a great alternative to plastic produce bags, they get the job done. My only complaint is that produce numbers can not be read through the mesh unless they are REALLY big. Minor inconvenience for cashiers to open each bag. I bought a couple of sets of these for me and a couple of sets for my Mom. Not only do these bags eliminate the need for plastic produce bags, they are easier to deal with at the store! My boyfriend and I love these bags! We use our cloth bags religiously whenever we go grocery shopping, and we were looking for some way to re-use bags for produce as well. One friend told us just to wash and reuse the plastic produce bags, but that was such a pain, and the bags tended to rip.These reusable produce bags are perfect for us! We take them along with our cloth grocery bags, and because they're mesh and see-through, cashiers don't have a problem ringing us up. Plus, cleaning them is easy.

These are great for avoiding extra packaging,even the recyclable kind, which I've been trying to cut down. As they're super light and you can easily see the contents, they're easy to use at the grocery store as well as the farmer's market - the product can be identified without having to open the bag and they hardly register on the scale so no problem with taring.Delighted!

I buy a lot of produce, and really like using these instead of countless plastic bags. Checkers usually don't have trouble identifying what's inside. I just toss them in the washing machine in a lingerie bag to clean.They're not terribly awesome for keeping veggies fresh once you get them home, though. I'm still figuring out a good solution to that.

I'm back to buy another set of these great bags...- For closure, I tighten the string, make two bunny ears, and tie a bow; this has worked great and is fairly easy to untie later.
- They've held up great going thru the washer & dryer

I. Love. These. Bags.I always feel guilty when I buy my produce because of the reusable produce bags, but they don't reuse very well and when I leave them in my shopping bags to reuse another time, my grocery store would always throw them out.
The bags came and are cute, the pull ties are easy to use, nice big openings, they held 4 jumbo artichokes easily, and allow my veggies to breathe- I left my squash in them in the fridge and they were just fine.
I receive many compliments on them and they are handy at the farmers' markets because I can get my fruit and veg and just carry the bags themselves over my shoulder- I don't have to put them inside other bags. Very good deal, nice and sturdy, breathable, great value. HIGHLY recommend.

I bought a pack of 5 and already told a few friends and family members about them (and in turn they purchased them and love them too!).I already use reusable grocery bags so using reusable produce bags completely fit into my routine. Plus plastic bags rip from produce sometimes and your hand sticks to the static in the plastic bags when sticking your hand in to pull out veggies. I do love these bags. They are large enough to hold lots of produce, I can see through them, and very washable. The only thing I don't like is I can't figure out a way to close them properly with the drawstring because it is so slippery. Sometimes my apples spill out into the grocery basket and it's a little annoying. Maybe somebody has a better way of tying up the drawstring so as to secure it, but not making a permanent knot. In the supermarket, the colors actually help remind me to get different colors of fruits and vegetables (red for apples, yellow for oranges, green for baby bok choy, purple for purple potatoes, etc.) So far I've used four out of five. I keep them ready to go inside my shopping bag when they're not in my regrigerator/on my counter. The bags get stained when I wash berries in them, but the stain comes out just by rinsing. I've always felt a little bad about using so many one-use bags when I buy produce. So naturally, it was great to bring these bags along. They worked well...the drawstring at the top is handy because It keeps apples and oranges from falling out. It's also nice that they are see-through, and the tight mesh lets the fruit breathe. I also washed them and they held up well and dried quickly. The only criticism I have is that I had some long ears of corn, and it was a struggle to get the drawstring around them. These were a pleasant surprise. They're pretty compact, so I keep them tucked away in my purse. They're very easy to see through, making it easy for the cashiers. But, if concerned, you could always fold back the tops after placing on counter or conveyor belt, thus revealing the fruit/veggies inside (but I haven't found it necessary). One customer commented on how the ties don't stay closed. So far, I've been lucky and haven't had this problem, but there are different types of fasteners (ex: Dritz® Cord Stops, approx $2.50 for 2) that can be purchased at a fabric store and would work perfectly to alleviate this problem. I love these bags. Everyone who sees me use them asks me about them. Cashiers have often told me how cool they are. They don't add any extra weight, the cashier can usually see the code right through the mesh, they clean up beautifully. What's not to love? I even use them for my bulk items like rolled oats, beans, etc. I tend to use a twist tie to make sure they're shut tightly in that case, but they work perfectly. Because I was trying to cut down on plastic, I ended up not bagging much of my produce. This way there's no guilt and everything stays nicely contained. These bags are soft and nice and large enough to hold my produce. The only problem I have found is that the mesh is thick and sometimes the grocery clerks don't like them because they can't see through them and have to open them to see the number. Most clerks already know the number of the produce however and it is easy to see what product is in the bag. They are easy to clean and dry fast. I haven't used them to wash produce in, just to carry the produce to home, then I transfer my veggies to the Ever fresh green bags which work like they say! These are great bags. They're slick with the little color tags, have a very easy open and close top, can be seen through easily at check out, and are fine enough for most bulk bin items like rice and quinoa (just knot the top, or use a clothes pin or other fastener). I originally got a set of 5, but found they were often left in use holding things in my fridge. I just ordered two more sets of 5. It's an investment but I love having an abundance of them, always on hand. Cons: these aren't going to keep greens from wilting. Probably obvious, but use a well sealed crisper drawer or other means to maintain moisture on greens. Also, as with any mesh fabric, the seam is a bit weaker than a solid fabric, so go easy packing it full with root veggies if you want the bag to last. By Kristine H

We have used these for about 3 months now and they work great! 90% of the cashiers have been able to read through them just fine, a few had to take a peek inside but otherwise it's been good at the checkout line. These are the best reuables to replace plastic fruit & veggie bags that I have been able to find. The grocery clerks love them because they can read the silly little labels stuck separately on every apple right through the bag with no difficulty. This is another REUSEIT product that I can't keep to myself because of family and friends falling in love with them and taking them. My youngest son has taken and designate one of the bags as his "seashell collection bag" for beach trips because the tiniest shells will not fall out! These are excellent bags. I use them for everything from produce to packing suitcases (for holding toys, etc). The only reason I don't rate them with 5 stars is that they only have one pull-string. In order to keep them shut, you have to tie the string or the bag. I added another pull string to the opposite side of the bag -- pull both strings to close the bag, and it stays shut. They fit nicely in a (recycled) quart zip-lock bag in my purse to stay clean between uses and always be available when needed. I have received several compliments and queries about them from both store personel and other customers. I bought a set of these bags to try them out. I wasn't too sure how big they would be, or how the cashier would handle them, but they are perfect. THey are big enough to hold pounds and pounds of apples, oranges, potatoes etc. You probably won't fit a head of Romaine lettuce in there, but I wouldn't want a bag that big for the rest of my produce anyway. The cashier doesn't have a problem seeing what's inside and reading the plu either, and they are so lightweight. I actually have less of a problem with my fruit rolling out of the bag and around my trunk with these than I did with plastic produce bags because of the drawstring. I bought these because our town eliminated the use of plastic bags for all but deli items, and I had been giving thought to the waste of using plastic produce bags that I usually threw-out as soon as getting home, because we use green bags for most items. What was unexpected, was how much I liked using them. I keep them inside my reusable shopping bags and can quickly pull them out and fill them. I bought 2 sets of these and they are the best! I take them with me to the fruit stand, farmers market, and the grocery store! No more yucky plastic bags for my produce. I wash these bags almost every time after use and they are withstanding the frequent washing very well. One bag did lose its knot on the drawstring after one wash; but my husband re-strung it and it was fine. These are good overall, but I have had a few challenges. As one reviewer said, they don't keep things as crisp as plastic, which can lead to wasting food. The other challenge is mine got moldy (my fault), but now I can't seem to get the mold off in the wash. I might have to get new ones and throw them away, which makes them non-reusable. I say 'mostly' because leafy produce seems to wilt in these puppies. But I use them even for lettuces because I hate those plastic bags, they are so wasteful and when they get water in them from the veggies, it makes the veggies rot. At first I didn't think 5 bags would be enough, but in the last month, I've never needed more than 5. The bags are durable and nice looking. I get lots of compliments and questions from other shoppers! I recently purchased 4 ears of corn on the cob (still in the husk). With a plastic bag, I'd have to double or triple bag to keep them from poking a hole and falling out. With these bags - no problems! I could have easily but another ear or two in the bag too, so these bags are roomy. Plus, the store I shop at gives me a discount for bringing my own bags! These baggies are fantastic. Just like my reusable shopping bags, I am finding that they are so useful for so many things beyond grocery shopping. I have used them to hold toys, lunches, and to separate outfits for my daughter in my suitcase when we have traveled. They of course work great for produce. I like that you can see through them, the cashier seems to have no problem telling what things are. I don't get any confused cashiers when I shop. I remember about 8 years ago, when I first started using reusable shopping bags, I would get a lot of confused cashiers who didn't know what to do with my bag. I used these for the first time this week. They worked beautifully holding my produce in the grocery cart, but when checkout time came, the clerk had a hard time seeing the code on the sticker on the fruit to enter the price and had to really look at it hard. Otherwise, they were great and kept me from having to remove everything from the usual plastic bags when I got home and move them to the recycle pile. I agree with all of the other positive comments about these bags already mentioned - durable, attractive, good size, much better than use-and-toss plastic, easy to clean, etc. - and I'm glad I bought them. I've even gotten several comments/questions about them from grocery store clerks, which is cool. However, I find that almost a lot of produce items I store in them in the fridge goes limp and soft fairly quickly...lettuce, green onions, peppers, broccoli, cilantro, even carrots. I have had success with onions, apples, citrus, and potatoes. I'm just sad I can't use them for everything. 3.0 Good bags, can't read labels

These bags are much stronger than other similar bags I have. They have re-enforced seams and heavier material. However the material is too dense, labels especially ones with smaller print cannot be read through the mesh. I will only be able to use these for things that do not have labels. The bags are good otherwise and can accommodate large heads of lettuce and hold heavier loads of things like apples with no trouble. By Susan S

I wasn't sure how these would work out and sometimes the clerks are a bit confused but I love them. I have had the clerk remove the bags in fear of the weight but others leave it alone. I would prefer they leave them alone and I pay a penny more vs handling all my produce. The only think I'm not doing is storing my produce in them because I don't own enough. I think these are wonderful. I tried ordering prdouce bags last time, but they wer enot only small, but non see through, so it made it hard for the cashier to recognize what you buy. Those currently store little dance costume accessories. These I have been able to fit 8 apples into the bag. I am definitely planning to buy another set to keep in my significant others car, so he can start using these instead of grabbing plastic produce bags. By Kira C

I'm so happy I found these bags for the produce I buy each week at our local grocery store. I also look forward to using them at the Farmer's Market once warm weather returns. I like the soft, lightweight feel of them and that each one has a different colored tag on it - purely for aesthetic reasons. I can fold them up and place them in my snack sack, which also holds my shopping bags. My only complaint is that there is no way to secure the bag closed. The pull string doesn't stay pulled, and in fact comes loose very easily. I have to be careful of how I place them in my Flip & Tumble shopping bags or the produce will fall out. This is why I give them 4 rather than 5 stars. By Caroline P

I love these bags! They are perfect for the grocery store. I buy so much produce that this is a great way to reuse. However, I need to buy an extra set because by the time I go to the grocery store again, I will still have some produce in my fridge. So you need to be able to rotate a few in and out. These are great for sorting my CSA veggies when I go to pick them up and then I just throw them in the frig. So convenient, and I love hanging root vegetables up in my pantry by the string. They seem sturdy and very well designed. By Alexis S

I love using these bags for produce at the grocery store. The drawstring at the top is great, and the size is generous but not too large. I washed them per the instructions (machine wash cold, line dry) and they came out perfectly. These are my first reusable produce bags, so I don't have anything to compare them to. These little bags are great. Very easy to use at the store, no bulk and very light weight. The checkers can see what's in them to weigh and scan your items easily as well. I gave these bags as Christmas gifts to my mom and sister and they love them too. By Carole P

I'd been waiting for a better offer on produce bags and it finally arrived with this brand. I thought the other brands of produce bags featured on this site were too expensive, especially because the sets included at most 3 bags. I bought two sets of these bags, for a total of 10 and they are perfect. They're tall enough to fit stalks of celery and stretch enough for 8 onions. The cashiers had no problem identifying the produce items through the semi-sheer material. All in all, great buy! The only way this could be better is if they included a pouch for storing them, but you can always stuff them all in one bag.View All
