I have had 16 and 20 oz sizes of this bottle for some time and like them. Recently my son's insulated lunchbox bottle with a straw started leaking, at first occasionally and then every single day. I was frustrated by the smell of rotting milk in his backpack so I started looking for something new. But I didn't find anything I liked better with a straw. Finally I sent him with my 16oz and he did fine with it, so I bought 2 12-oz for both of my kids. I put milk in them every day and no leaks and they are able to cope with the screw caps just fine (they are 7 and 9) I don't have any problems with the milk smelling in the rings and neither these rings nor the ones in my 16 and 20 have ever fallen out. I rinse them out with hot water every night and refill, and wash them on weekends. The insides are still slightly cool when they get home. Our old bottles always had curdled milk residue inside them and had to be washed. They tell me that the milk is colder at lunchtime than it was with the other bottles. Making lunch is such a pleasure now, no fiddling with many layers and parts and making sure it's screwed on *just so* and the best part, no cleaning a straw!
Easy to clean, easy to carry, keeps my son's ice water cold all day at school. Glad I bought them!
I originally bought the medium size, loved it so much, I bought the large.
Over the year and half of using these on a daily basis, my friends and family all bought one.
They're rugged, retains cold drinks for more than 16hrs even if sitting in direct sunlight! I never travel without one which is why I bought the smaller version for the times like shopping and I need lots of room in my bag :)
I love the size and superb construction of this wonderful insulated water bottle! I purchased several of these specifically for my kids' lunches, to keep food warm. I prep the container by running hot water in them and letting them sit while I prepare soup, mac & cheese or chili. Then I pour out the water and put the food in.
In my short experience with these, I have found that after 4-5 hours, the food is still warm, but not hot. For me this works, my kids can eat their food right away without having to let it cool down. However, I would not use this for hot beverages that need to stay hot for more than 3 hours.
These Klean Kanteen insulated bottles are fantastic. I have 2 in the 16 oz size that I use to carry ice-cold water with me everywhere I go. I got the smaller (12oz) one for coffee and it doesn't disappoint. These bottles work to keep drinks hot or cold for hours and hours. I throw them in my bag and they never leak. They seem expensive, but they are worth it as they do the job, clean easily and will last for years.
I bought this for my oldest to take to kindergarten for lunch. It's been wonderful. Easy enough for him to open, yet is able to stay in his backpack w/o leaking AND keep his milk cold. I'm thinking of purchasing another one for the days he wants soup for lunch.
i love my kleen kanteen. it is easy for me to carry wherever i go and love grabbing my morning coffee in it. it is easy to keep clean as well. i'll probably buy the other cap for it to make it easier to drink out of while on the go.
I bought the Klean Kanteen insulated bottle to bring my coffee to work to save money. It is great and it keeps my coffee hot until I am ready to drink it hours later. The bottle is solid and sturdy and it washes well. I am very happy with my purchase, and I plan to get another Klean Kanteen insulated bottle for my mother.
I love making my tea in this each morning. I use the screw on d-loop lid that has (stainless steel inside it) and throw it in my bag confindent that it won't leak. Then when I am ready to drink it, I switch to the cafe lid and enjoy piping hot tea. It has also been great for sending warm soup to school for my kids. I love it.
This is a fantastic cup for my morning coffee, using the cafe lid. I had to sign on and write this review because I just took a sip of the coffee that I got this morning at 7am and it is still warm at 1pm! Coffee in my other "insulated" cup would be ice cold after a couple hours. It is a nice simple shape and just the right size. I like the wide mouth and the cafe lid works great for me. I am so glad I made this purchase!
I LOVE this insulated bottle! I bought the cafe lid, and we use it for coffee on the way to work or even at home on the weekends. What I love about it is how long hot liquids stay hot! I can honestly fill piping hot coffee into it at 7 am and it is still nice and hot at 10 am, which is perfect for me, because I like to sip my coffee slowly over the course of the morning. With other insulated mugs, the coffee (or tea) would get cold within an hour, and I'd pour the coffee into a microwaveable container, warm it, and put it back in. No need with this mug. The mug fits neatly into a standard car cupholder, and the outer metal stays cool to the touch, so the lack of a handle is not an issue. The optional cafe lid does say it is not leakproof, but as long as it is on tight (not necessarily cranked tightly, just closed tight enough), and you tip it up to your mouth in the right place (i.e., at the spot where the lid has a little higher lip), I have never had a spill or leak while drinking. If the cup tips over completely, yes, it will leak, but they do acknowledge this. I used it recently for soup with my lunch using the lid that is included, and it was fantastic! But my favorite use is for coffee or tea on weekend mornings or when I work from home, as it stays hot for hours while I am slowly waking up, or working and not having to interrupt my progress to warm/refresh the coffee. I actually came back to Reuseablebags.com today to buy 2 more for when we have guests over! Great product.
I have searched high and low for a plain, undecorated thermos that's compact enough to pack inside a lunch bag. At last I found it! Small bottles decorated with cute animals or super-heroes don't work for teenagers, and my teenager doesn't want to bother with a 16-oz bottle that gets lost in the bottom of the backpack. For us, the 12-oz bottle packed inside the lunch bag is the perfect solution. This bottle looks great and is easy to clean. The regular lid doesn't include a drinking spout, you have to order that separately.
My husband and I separately commute long distances for work. He drinks his coffee on the way to work, whereas I just transport mine and heat it up when I get to work. My old travel mug did not fit in my cupholder--the base was much smaller than the cupholder, so it would fall out when I took a turn. It also did not keep my coffee hot, and the top was a strange design that got really gross over time and was difficult to clean completely. My husband had a pretty good travel mug in that it fit in his cupholder and he liked the mouth opening; however, his coffee did not stay hot for too long. We bought two of these Klean Kanteen insulated mugs and are overall quite pleased. They fit perfectly in car cupholders, and the loop cap is definitely leak proof (fine for me, since I don't drink the coffee while driving). I wouldn't say the coffee is HOT when I get to work (about an hour after I pour it in), but I only have to microwave it for 30 seconds as opposed to 65-70 with my old mug. My husband is very pleased with how hot the coffee stays for his whole commute (sometimes 1 and 1/2 hours); his only complaint is that the cafe top leaks (which, to be fair, the company tells you from the get-go). he has to shove a paper towel into the top on his way out the door, because he does jostle it around a fair bit as he's rushing out. I think the only thing we would love to see from Klean Kanteen is a cafe top that either doesn't leak at all or leaks very minimally.
This is a good insulated bottle, cold and hot liquids stay hot for several hours. The only downside is that you have to take off the top by untwisting it to drink from and that is not really convenient when you only have one hand free. Also, they sell a optional top which you can drink from, but it is not leak proof so that is not really a better option. So, if Klean Kanteen comes out with a leak proof cap that you can drink from, this item would easily get 5 stars from me.
I purchased this insulated flask in order for my 7 year old to have cold milk at lunch time. Unfortunately, I will not be sending this to his school with the screw top nor will I purchase the cafe lid since both will be a huge spill waiting to happen. Additionally I purchased the sport cap that fits "all" kleen kanteen products, except this product. so I feel that I have spent $30, gotten zero functionality. There is a huge market in insulated drink containers if some company will fill this void.
I bought this item for my first-grade son to help with those times I want to send a warm meal to school. Obviously this bottle is geared for liquids but I liked the stainless steel cap feature in this insulated bottle. We do not drink coffee so this was meant to hold chili, stew, soup, etc. It can do that, and without leaking, which is up to the usual KK standard. I just wish this shorter "wide" insulated bottle was a bit wider. My son is able to get the food out and finish his meal. (He uses a smaller spoon than an adult would.) The food is nice and warm four hours after I pack it. I just don't think my preschooler is going to be able to tilt the bottle and easily get warm food out with a spoon like her big brother. Would be fantastic if KK came out with an insulated stainless steel FOOD CONTAINER to go with their awesome liquid containers.
