Design and Functionality
Laptop Lunch bento boxes were modeled after traditional bento boxes, a container used in Japanese culture to pack single-portion takeout meals. All the pieces fit together like a puzzle, making it easy to identify a missing item from the set. This set includes four lidded containers, to be used with the Laptop Lunch outer case, sold separately. Perfect for wet foods, such as dips, yogurt, cottage cheese, and dressings.
Materials
Dishwasher safe food containers are made using 10%-recycled plastics (polypropylene and polyethylene) that are FDA-approved for food use, and will not leach harmful chemicals into food. No binding agents, plasticizers, or other materials suspected to contain carcinogens or endocrine disrupters are used to make the Laptop Lunch Kit. The Laptop Lunch Kit is made of high-quality materials and is built to last. Sturdy, rigid containers help prevent "squishing," keeping foods secure during the occasional bumps and bruises on trips to school.
Sustainability
Billions of single-use bags, baggies and food containers are consumed each year. When used in place of disposable single-serving containers and throwaway packaging, each Laptop Lunch kit has the potential to eliminate 1000s of disposables over its lifetime, preserving natural resources, protecting the environment and saving you money in the process.
One of the main design objectives for the Laptop Lunch Kit was to provide parents with a sustainable alternative to the wasteful, single-use containers so prevalent in today's school lunches. Home made lunches are not only more nutritious than prepackaged lunches, but they tend to cost less as well. It has been estimated that a person taking a disposable lunch to school will spend an average of $4.02 per day or $723.60 per school year. A person who packs a waste-free lunch will spend about $2.65 a day or $477.00 per school year. That equates into about $250 in savings per person/year.

The Laptop Lunch Kit was developed by two mothers (Tammy Pelstring and Amy Hemmert) with a mission of helping families improve lunchtime nutrition and reduce waste. And since they believe that healthy kids come from healthy communities, they donate a portion of profits to schools and environmental organizations.
The Laptop Lunches bento box is Made in the USA at a California manufacturing site that adheres to strict health, safety and environmental standards. This was a conscious decision by the product's developers, who wanted to ensure that the food containers were made safely and to the highest standards possible.

What is the difference between the original bento set and Bento Set 2.0?
- The original has two lidded containers inside the outer container, and Bento Set 2.0 has three.
- The original comes with stainless utensils with plastic handles. Bento Set 2.0 has all-stainless utensils.
- Bento Set 2.0 is about 1/4-inch deeper than the original bento set.
- Bento Buddies can fit inside the Bento Set 2.0. Bento Buddies DO NOT fit inside the original.
- Both the original and Bento Set 2.0 fit in the original and in the new Bento 2.0 carrying cases.

I was super excited about ordering these for my kids lunches. I really liked the size options and colors shown. Sadly they are not as functional as I had hoped. Out of the 3 sets I ordered 2 are very difficult to close. Specifically the largest box cannot close at all. It almost seems like the lid is just too small for the box.The medium box closes but it does not hold liquids inside well. Do not use for wet products like watermelon unless you like cleaning up your kids lunch box.
They work great for dry products, but that is not why I bought them. Not sure what to do about the non-closing boxes... Sad and disappointing purchase.

These are great for lunches. I don't have the bento box that they are supposed to fit inside, I just use them in my regular lunch bag and they're great. Easy to clean and the littlest size is so perfect for dips and dressings. I think that next year when my son goes to school I'll need a second set for his lunches. Would highly recommend. By Holly H

These colorful, sturdy containers are a great alternative to buying and throwing away plastic bags/baggies for my son's school lunches. They hold a lot and wash easily in the top dishwasher rack. My only complaint is that the lids do not completely close or snap on the container. So, they're definitely not leak proof and you have to make sure that whatever you pack will survive if the lid comes off. By Samaria H

I bought the laptop lunch set about a year ago for each of my two kids. It's not the cheapest way to pack at first, but if the lids and containers don't get lost (they sometimes do), they will last forever and save lots on packaging in the long run. I don't have to buy any convenience-sized bags with wasteful packaging, I can just buy in bulk and pack food in these. I still have some from a year ago, but bought some replacements through loss. I wash them in the top rack and they do fine. There is one extra-large container in this set that isn't all that useful to my kids, but my husband and I use them to pack our own sandwiches in. Also, these do not have to go in the laptop lunch system if you'd prefer to just pack them in a cooler. I have found them to be a great fit for the small 6-pack size cooler. By M Storm C

I am a flight attendant and always carry my lunch and food with me either domestically or internationally. I found these containers to be easy to use with a nice heavy and durable feel. The lids seem air tight and have not leaked. The square shape makes it very easy to pack and packs neatly such as to carry many different snacks and food and also conserves space. I usually carry a salad/ sandwich, fruit, nuts and a cold entree or soup. After washing them, I put watermelon in them for their lunches, sealed and burped them, and both girls came home with soaked lunch boxes and backpack. I recently got the laptop lunch containers for sandwiches and other lunch ingredients. They're a great portable find, and the largest (sandwich) container fits in my small lunch pack.
