Orka by Mastrad's multi-purpose silicone lids help you reduce the need for plastic wrap and aluminum foil, keep piles of waste out of landfills. Use them to keep foods and beverages fresh in the refrigerator and to prevent splatters in the microwave. Unlike plastic wrap, the lids create an airtight seal, plus, they adhere to all types and shapes of containers. Heat resistant up to 570 degrees F, they also work as pot holders and trivets.

Design & Functionality
Orka by Mastrad's multi-purpose silicone lids are made of flexible silicone that adheres firmly to any plastic, ceramic, glass or metal container. Unlike plastic wrap, the lids are durable and tear-resistant, creating an airtight seal that also helps prevent spills. Use them as pot holders, splatter guards in the microwave or as trivets for hot pots and pans.

To seal your dish, place the lid on top, making sure the rim of the container is free from moisture, debris or ridges. Then, press firmly down on the center of the lid. A light touch to the rim of the lid breaks the seal.

Tips
  • Once sealed, carry dishes from the bottom or by the handle in the center of the lid. Touching the sides of the lid will break the seal.
  • Do not seal when reheating things in microwave, due to a build-up of pressure.

Gave one to my daughter to use and I kept two. Love to use them as a cover, then a potholder, and then a trivet. Plus I can throw them in the dishwasher.

You know how some skillets don't have lids and reheating dishes is a pain when you attack the microwave with splatters? These lids fix that without getting hot! Awesomeness! I sometimes use these on pans that have their own lids because I like how I can remove them without a pot holder.

I was surprised to find these have only a 2.5-star overall rating. I bought these on a whim and find we use them all the time.



They're best for reheating or cooking veggies in the microwave. Maybe I lucked out having the right-size bowls in my kitchen or something--the smallest lid works perfectly on my small bowls, medium lid for medium bowls, and large lid for plates. Broccoli and sweet potatoes cook swiftly and evenly in the microwave with a tablespoon of water and one of these lids on top. Suction does occur because of the steam that builds up inside the bowl, but that's what makes the cooking work well; I just take the bowl out of the oven, let it sit for a minute to let the steam die down and cooking complete, then carefully lift the lid off using the handy tab. They're so much healthier than heating plastic (and releasing all its toxic chemicals into your food) -- which my kids' grandparents seem to do without thinking twice no matter how many times I've reminded them not to do that -- or heating a brittle heavy plate (and risking dropping it when you take the hot thing out of the oven).



I also use these as trivets. I just slap them down on the counter and put my hot pan on top. They don't move because they're made of silicone which grips the countertop well.



Finally, if I can't find my regular silicone potholders then I can use these as well. They're not as good as a properly designed potholder because I can't get as firm a grip due to the grooves, but they do work in a pinch.

Hmmm. I am just not sure about this one. I've ended up using them as hot pads ( useful if you need that like we did), but I haven't used them as much to cover dishes as I thought I would. I was looking for an alternative to putting plates over dishes ( we don't have Saran Wrap in the house). Sometimes they have worked well, but when I try to put one on a bowl that is much smaller, it is rather awkward to have in the fridge - and often that is the only real choice... Plus, as another reviewer already stated, the seal is not tight. So I cannot say that I regret buying them ( not yet anyways), but I cannot recommend them either. I'm going to keep trying to find ways to make them work for us. Will report back if I do!

I am very disappointed with this product. I bought it specifically to use in place of plastic wrap. Reuseit.com's description says this: "To seal your dish, place the lid on top, making sure the rim of the container is free from moisture, debris or ridges. Then, press firmly down on the center of the lid. A light touch to the rim of the lid breaks the seal." Unfortunately, the description of the "light touch" to the rim to break the seal is very true. I don't see how this will "prevent spills" because it really is not an airtight seal if it is so easily broken. I chose this set instead of the more expensive silicon lids only because it had the 10" size. Unless the more expensive set is designed much better than this one, I'm glad I didn't waste even more money on this very disappointing product.

Great for reheating in microwave. Note, everything seems to heat twice as fast when I use them. Just wish they had square shapes for all of my square dishes!
