We've been searching for a replacement for expensive, wasteful aluminum foil and were excited to discover Kuhn Rikon's durable MagicCovers. They seal to the top of food containers and can be used any time you'd normally reach for aluminum foil, including in the microwave or oven.

Design and Functionality
MagicCovers are made of flexible, food-safe silicon and adhere to any metal, glass, plastic or ceramic bowl. Because the entire flexible surface creates a light seal, you can use it them on any container of smaller diameter to help keep in heat, moisture and freshness. Unlike foil, MagicCovers are durable and tear-resistant - you can use them over and over again. Can also double as a trivet or splatter guard.
To seal your dish, place the MagicCover on top (as you would a lid) then press down firmly on the center to create a light seal. Please note, the seal is not leak proof.

They don\'t work!

I haven't been able to find any bowl or container that these lids will work with. I can set them on top, but they don't adhere or seal. They also don't fit standard size bowls and either hang way off the edge or are too small. I'm very disappointed.

My wife wasn't sure that we needed them but now that she's used them for a little while she likes and uses them nearly every day. The fact that they are reusable and can withstand both hot and cold temperatures makes them very popular in our house. One suggestion we have is that there will soon be some rectangular ones available. It takes a very large circular one to cover some square or rectangular containers, but one that is more like the shape of the pan would be very helpful.

Seal didn't work
I bought these for my daughter (while I was visiting) because I thought they might stay sealed better than the Keepeez brand that gets bumped in a crowded refrigerator (with the part that protrudes). But I found the one I tried came unsealed twice. Also, I discovered that the largest one I ordered especially for an 11" salad bowl was not big enough (needs an extra 1" to seal), but some other reviews may have warned about that, if I had checked. Overall, I'm happier with Orka lids because I don't expect a tight seal!

Not terribly impressed
To be fair, I have had minimal need to use these. Unfortunately, they have not lived up to my expectations so far. The small ones over a couple of containers seem to be functioning. The larger ones seem to have difficulty sealing in the same manner. It is hoped my use will increase and my experience will improve.

Love them!
These are truly life changing. No more waste. I usually have leftovers and I just keep the food in the same dish, press this on the top for the perfect seal and then when i'm ready to heat it, just flip it over and microwave.

Amazing
I took the advice someone wrote to by a size larger than I needed and am glad. Not that it wouldn't have worked, but now I'm able to use it for 90% of our dishes. I microwaved in it, have washed it in the dishwasher once so far and it seems really effective. It even sealed a clay-type dish with a glazed, but rougher edge. (Similar to sango bowl edges.) We're really happy with the purchase.

Love these!!
I am so excited about this product. It's very sturdy and feels like it will last a lifetime. It turns my glass bowls and cups into airtight containers without using plastic.. I love it! This set works well for small bowls and glasses.. now I need to buy the big set for my bigger bowls.

Great from fridge to microwave
We bought three sizes of the silicone lids. It handles well going from fridge to microwave. It prevented numerous microwave explosions/messes. However, I found that the silicone lid did not always hold its seal. Your container edges must be perfectly even on a plane in order for it to maintain a good seal. The lid still functions as a cover as it sits atop a dish. I would still recommend it since using a reuseable lid is way better than throwing away plastic wrap.

nice lid and trivet

I was looking for a universal lid that would fit more than one skillet/pan and would fit in a small RV space. I believe mine is larger than 9.5" which I found in a little town on the Oregon coast and was told it could withstand temps to 650 degrees. It is my ultimate cooking lid (ribs down) and trivet (ribs up). Since it does not have a handle of any kind, I just lift it up/off the pan with a knife or fork and transfer it to the counter. Terrific product!

With all the hoopla about plastic wrap and plastic containers of any kind not being safe to use in the microwave, I needed something else to use to cover dishes in the microwave so that sauces, etc. don't splash everywhere. This is good, sturdy solution - at least, nothing so far has said that silicone is bad for you. There is a large metal ring inside the rubber to give the MagicCover some structure, and it will not create sparks in your microwave. Make sure to put the grooved side facing your food (facing the inside of your dish) - I didn't do this once and had a bowl get vacuum sealed after heating up some pasta. The MagicCover helps warm your food evenly and is also easy to clean.

After about 2 months of frequent use, I can say that so far these MagicCovers work great. However, one precaution to avoid having to return the wrong size. You need to buy a cover that is 1.5" to 1.75" larger in diameter than the diameter of the largest container you intend to cover with it.
