Bazura Bags Large Insulated Lunch / Grocery Bags are made in the Philippines by a women's cooperative, utilizing used juice containers. These containers are purchased through a network of local school children. Indestructible and non-biodegradable by nature, foil juice packs clog landfills, fields and streets throughout the Philippines. Using clever designs that combine the material's strength & brilliant colors, the co-op helps keep the environment clean via this very cool method of recycling.

About Bazura Bags

Bazura Bags come from a women's co-op in the Philippines that set up a Livelihood Project assisted by the local village council. With almost no capital, the women found a very clever way to support themselves.

Every day, children from the local schools collect over 50,000 used drink containers, called doy packs, then sell them to the co-op. The bags are sanitized and the women sew them together into attractive, durable bags.

Unlike most third world factory workers toiling away in sweatshops, these women are entrepreneurs and shareholders. They work for themselves and have a positive impact on their community and, at the same time, they encourage environmentalism.

Fact
It's estimated that millions of juice containers get thrown in the trash everyday in the Philippines.

Great Cooler/Picnic Basket

by Valerie S - 07/2010

I used this on the weekly basis over the past year, to transport food from my parents house to my dorm, about 1 1/2 hour drive. I put bags of ice inside, and they never melted! There was maybe a spoonful or two of water that had melted, and that's it. Typically I would carry a quart of milk, 2 'lunch size' tupperwares of food, 4-6 yogurt cups, some bananas, a few apples, lunch meats and cheeses, and 1-2 bags of ice. It's easy to pack a lot of food in there. Since I was always home from school on the weekends, it helped me and my parents cut down my food cost substantially. Before going to college, I used this to bring food to the park. It's much lighter than a picnic basket and since it's insulated, it's a no brainer. The only thing I wish was different, is the handle. It's easier to carry a heavy load if it's shorter, but on the other hand, if your hands are full, you can carry it on your shoulder (just be careful that it doesnt pull out your shoulder). Initially, I thought I was crazy for spending the $$ on this, but it's well worth it. I've used it so much that I've well gotten my money's worth. Besides being cute, my family's from the Philippines and I got a kick out of the fact that it's made from 'basura.' I also have the smaller lunch bag;I really wish the rectangular lunch bag had the same kind of insulation, it's good but not excellent like this one.

Practical, indestructible and fun

by Carey C - 06/2010

Cold groceries such as yogurt and frozen veggies, and heavy items such as bottles and cans: these are no problem for my large Bazura bag. I've been using the bag for several years, and so far it shows no sign of wear and tear--not even the zipper. It's so colorful and well-made that strangers often stop me to ask where I bought it. The Bazura bag has made a great birthday present for friends, too... Fair Trade, made from old juice boxes--what's not to love?!

Fun thermal bag

by Susan S - 01/2010

I use this bag every week at the grocery store! We put all our shopping/produce bags inside to store in the car, and use this one to transport cold & frozen items. Love the design and bright colors!

I loved the bag overall

by Amy B - 10/2009

I loved the bag overall. It serves its purpose for me which is to transport cold items sort of like a small cooler -works great in the car with my kids for sippy cups, snacks, etc. on small trips. Only small problem I have is that the zipper sticks some and I anticipate it may not hold up over time.

I'm really disappointed in this bag

I'm really disappointed in this bag. It's bright, colorful, and fun but I had hoped to use it as a cooler at the pool. At best it's an insulated bag for transporting perishables home from the grocery store. It's more durable than the one I had been using for that purpose (which just ripped) so I won't bother returning it.

by susan s - 05/2009

i love it!!!! i use it as a (very big)lunch bag that fits all my reusable containers. It's price was comparable to other bags like it...and i got to help a woman's coop and recycle too. And, most importantly....it is so cute. Everyone likes it...have been talking up your bags to everyone. THanks!!!

This bag is pretty cool, and like other reviewers,

by Valerie S - 03/2009

This bag is pretty cool, and like other reviewers, I have to agree that it is best suited as a picnic bag, or a grocery bag. I am looking forward to using it in the summer for picnics. It's extremely well built, with an added insulation layer inside. The one I received is blue, from mango juice boxes. I plan on using this bag to hold meals for long days, since my typical day consists of working 7am to 330pm, and then volunteering from 4pm to 9pm. Though it's large, if you have large containers you use this will probably be perfect for you. Very cute!

by Elvessa A - 02/2009

We've had this for over a year, and we really like it. We use this for picnics. It can fit 2 laptop lunchboxes and 2 Aladdin mini lunchboxes, plus 4 Kleen Kanteens (12 and 18oz). It is easy to carry, not too heavy, and easy to clean.

The Bazura Bag is fantastic for transporting froze

by Elaine G - 01/2009

The Bazura Bag is fantastic for transporting frozen items from the grocery store to the freezer. It is well-made, colorful, and very sturdy. It's a pleasure to keep these bags out of the trash and give the women who make the bags an opportunity for self-sufficiency.

I really like this bag

by Penny H - 01/2009

I really like this bag. I use it mainly to carry cold/frozen items home from the store. It is so much more sturdy than the insulated ones you can buy at the grocery store and it can hold so much more because of the way it zips on the top. I am asked every time I use it where I got it. I love that it is reusing material that would otherwise go to a landfill and also providing employment

by maryann l - 11/2008

Yes, the bag is pricey BUT it does it works well in the Sicilian summer when trying to get frozen foods home from the store. The bag is quite sturdy and the dimensions fit most of the things that need to keep cold. This is an additional purchase of this bag and I would buy it again.

by Esther C - 11/2008

I bought 2 bags to be used as panniers (side bike bags for rear rack), and they work great -- especially when I'm hauling groceries and I'd prefer them kept cool and insulated. And, they're brightly colored so it increases my visibility.

I get so many inquiries about this bag!

by Nicole B - 10/2008

I get so many inquiries about this bag! It is well constructed and fits so much stuff. I work overnight and usually take a 40oz. Klean Kanteen and a few pieces of tupperware. It is big for a lunchbag but suits my needs perfectly.

I have been using my bag and love it

by Treva B - 07/2008

I have been using my bag and love it. It is large enough to hold enough food in recyclable CONTAINERS for 2 us to be out all day working and not have to use the disposable baggies that allow food to get squashed and waste our money and resources anyway. I can pretty much throw anything into the bag and it fits! It keeps the food cooled and is a sturdy bag. Thank you!
