Design & functionality
BioBag 3 gallon size is designed to fit most kitchen countertop composting pails. Once full, you can throw the entire bag and contents into your composter.

Also great for refrigerated food storage. Since a BioBag “breathes” without leaking, it allows heat and moisture to escape, which helps keep food fresher longer so you waste less food. Try BioBags for storing your fruits and vegetables, then reuse the same bag to line your composting pail or as a trash can liner for smaller trash cans, e.g. bathroom.

Materials
BioBags are made from a bio-polymer called Mater-Bi™, the first 100% biodegradable and compostable bio-polymer ever invented. Mater-Bi™ is made from cornstarch, vegetable oil & other renewable resources. It is completely biodegradable in different environments: in composting, in the soil & in fresh / salt water. 3rd party certifications include US, National & International certificates. BioBag packaging represents the company’s commitment to producing as environmentally friendly as possible and is not only made from natural fibers and recycled material, it’s 100% biodegradable & compostable. Inks and dyes are also soy based.

Sustainability
BioBags are a smart alternative to polyethylene/polypropylene based plastic bags. They’re designed to help people reduce the usage of new and recycled polyethylene-based plastic. Regular usage will help rid plastic bags from our environment. BioBags are made primarily from cornstarch and are certified to be 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable. Regular plastic bags do not biodegrade – they photodegrade whereby the elements break them down into smaller and toxic bits.

Some manufacturers are blending additives to polyethylene to produce bags marketed as “biodegradable” or “degradable”; these merely accelerate the photodegredation process. By rapidly breaking plastic into tiny bits – it gets rid of the eyesore but the plastic remains! Of course these do not meet the ASTM D6400-99 standard for biodegradable and compostable plastic. The claim of biodegradability offered by these products is misleading and should be avoided since we believe they represent the worst possible alternative. Click here for more.

    Count your bags!!

The box I received only contained 24 bags. I didn't start counting them until the past 2 orders (I was short on the last order too, but thought it was just a fluke - have to wonder if these are short on a regular basis).

    Count your bags!!

This is the second time that I've been shorted the number of bags. It may have happened before, but I didn't count them before. I started counting the bags because a friend said she had been shorted. I like the product, but I'm not going to buy them anymore because I, as anyone else would, want to get what I pay for, not less.

    A sound investment

    by Elizabeth H - 05/2011

I have become fed up with using grocery and produce bags to keep scapes in my scrap bin. The scraps would mold or I would be concerned with how well my scraps would do in the compost pile. I have more confidence that these BioBags will quell my fears of being Eco-Friendly by decomposing well and does help to keep the smell out of the scap bin. Thank you for a great product!

    They definitely compost

I use these inside my countertop compost bin. They don't really hold up all that well, but I just take the whole bin & dump it in my out door compost bin. I guess it keeps the countertop bin from getting too gross.

    New and Improved to Uselessness

I've been using Biobags for two years now. I use the lawn & leaf size for yard cleanup, the compost bin size for doggie bomb cleanup and bathroom garbage and the kitchen size for, well, the kitchen. I love knowing that I am not putting my garbage into a plastic bag where it will never decompose. While I want to be earth friendly, I still want a bag that is reliable. In my last shipment from Reusable Bags, my Biobags all had the new and improved label on them. I was excited because every now and then a bag tears on me and it's frustrating, but livable because I know I'm not using plastic, and I was really hoping they had stepped it up a notch. I am so disappointed. These new and improved bags are worthless. I can't even put a tissue into them without them tearing. I've got through a whole roll of the kitchen bags and thrown away more than half of them because they tear when you take them off the roll, they tear when you put them in the waste basket, they tear when you put anything in them, and god forbid you want to take them out of the waste basket, they'll happily dump their entire contents on the floor for you. These were worth the cost before and eased my conscience for putting a bag out to the bin every two weeks, but now, it's a waste of money. I was a big fan for two years and now I'm looking for an alternative product and I know there really isn't one. Biobag, you just lost a customer! For those considering purchasing these today, RUN AWAY, they aren't the bag they used to be!

    Wonderful Product

    by Suzanne B - 12/2009

I only ordered one box of these bags to try them out and wish I would have ordered more to begin with! I love them. It's so easy to empty the compost bucket with these bags, just tie a knot in the top and toss in the compost pile. And no smelly mess to clean out of the countertop compost bucket.

This is my second purchase of these bags. I usually buy in bulk to save on shipping. They work great for our compost pail. I will continue to purchase these in the future.

    So far, so good.

    by Jo Ellen W - 11/2009

If these bags biodegrade as they're advertised to do, they will be terrific. We have composted for years, using a bucket. With these, we are able to put the bag in the bucket, and it keeps the mess to a miniumum--much easier to keep clean. We remain hopeful.

While I'm very glad someone has created a bag that's biodegradable, I think the technology is not yet up to the task. These are extremely fragile...today, a piece of bread poked a hole in the bag! I'm hopeful they will continue to improve this and other biodegradable bags, but I'm not sure I'd order these again.

    I love these bags

I love these bags. I haven't test composting with them yet, but they are great little bags for scraps. They have a wide opening and fit a number of different receptacle. I will be testing them once we get our composter to see how well and quickly they decompose, but I think they will perform well from what I see of them.

    I like these bags

I like these bags. Happy not to be putting plastic into landfill. I just wish they sold these in larger quantities - 100 count, and it would be great if they had a hole (like the doggy bags) so I could hang the bag on a cabinet handle. I can't wait for the day when plastic bags are expensive and these bags are cheaper!

The kitchen 13gal Bio Bags are a bit expensive and need to be tied at the bottem to make sure they dont leek through the perferation, but I love them.

Since I have switched over to canvas shopping bags

Since I have switched over to canvas shopping bags, I no longer have the plastic grocery store bags to use for kitty litter waste and dog waste pick-up. I decided to try your compostable bags for those chores and they are working great. I feel a lot bettter knowing how quickly the compostable bags will break down.
