Design & functionality
BioBag kitchen waste bags are primarily for the collection of food scraps and other biodegradable waste for home or community composting. BioBag Tall Kitchen waste bags are sized equivalent to regular plastic bags and fit most kitchen waste cans. Perfect for collecting food waste, paper and other biodegradable packaging items. These bags are also great for collecting outdoor waste from small gardening areas.

Materials
BioBags are made from a bio-polymer called Mater-Bi™, the first 100% biodegradable and compostable bio-polymer ever invented. Mater-Bi™ is made from cornstarch, vegetable oil & other renewable resources. It is completely biodegradable in different environments: in composting, in the soil & in fresh / salt water. 3rd party certifications include US, National & International certificates. Click here for more.

BioBag packaging represents the company’s commitment to producing as environmentally friendly as possible and is not only made from natural fibers and recycled material, it’s 100% biodegradable & compostable. Inks and dyes are also soy based.

Sustainability
BioBags are a smart alternative to polyethylene/polypropylene based plastic bags. They’re designed to help people reduce the usage of new and recycled polyethylene-based plastic. Regular usage will help rid plastic bags from our environment. BioBags are made primarily from cornstarch and are certified to be 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable. Regular plastic bags do not biodegrade – they photodegrade whereby the elements break them down into smaller and toxic bits.

Some manufacturers are blending additives to polyethylene to produce bags marketed as “biodegradable” or “degradable”; these merely accelerate the photodegredation process. By rapidly breaking plastic into tiny bits – it gets rid of the eyesore, but the plastic remains! Of course these do not meet the ASTM D6400-99 standard for biodegradable and compostable plastic. The claim of biodegradability offered by these products is misleading and should be avoided since we believe they represent the worst possible alternative. Click here for more.

About BioBag
BioBag is the world’s largest selling brand of biodegradable and compostable bags made from the material, Mater-Bi. Widely used for the collection of food waste for composting, BioBags are also popular among consumers who seek to reduce the amount of polyethylene-based plastics in the environment. BioBags are GMO free, certified for use in organic agriculture and CEN certified for restricted use of metals in our vegetable-based inks and dyes. BioBag products meet the ASTM D6400-99 requirements, which is the gold standard for compostable plastic. BioBags are shelf-stable, just like paper towels, yet biodegrade quickly when exposed to nature’s elements and micro-organisms, leaving no harmful residues behind.

Biobags are made in the USA.

    better than ever before

    by Josephine P - 06/2010

These bags are advertised to be "longer and stronger," both of which are true. This improved round of bags haven't broken once so far, with which I am very pleased. (My spouse still won't use them, having been burnt from the time when they tended to break and needed a lot of TLC -- special treatment for wet garbage -- to use properly, but I feel righteous enough in having eliminated plastic from this part of my life to manage our garbage situation entirely.) My only complaint is that I can't buy them for less than $.49 per bag, and that feels like a lot to spend on trash bags. I look forward to the time when the price comes down enough for me to start working on my friends and family to make the switch!

    Great alternative to plastic

    by Sheila C - 06/2010

I hesitated after reading the reviews of sturdiness with these bags, but we have had no trouble at all. I don't jam too much stuff in with sharp corners and it holds my kitchen trash just fine. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone trying to get away from plastic. I guess they could be a little bigerr, but really no complaints.

    Will be a repeat customer.

Before I bought a box (12 count) I read the reviews and was on the fence as to how well the product would work, therefore I only bought one box. I am now almost finished with the box and will absolutely be buying more (we seem to be going through one bag every six days or so; two adults, one _ year old). They will tear more easily than traditional plastic garbage bags (as expected), but they are definitely strong enough to be filled to the brim, squished down, then tied. I started a compost pile after buying these bags and recommend the same to you. If I have to place organic or wet material in the garbage, I place it in the middle, making sure it doesn't touch the sides. Try not to place too much "liquid" into the garbage as condensation might form in the can; I only had that problem once, yet it hadn't deteriorated the bag. Like some of the reviews said, the size does run a little small. I have two "13 gallon" trash receptacles; one is a stretch to get it on and wouldn't touch the bottom of the can, and the other is a perfect fit. I am very satisfied with this product and believe that I am a customer for life. I absolutely love the fact that I will not be placing any more plastic garbage bags into the landfills!

I have not encountered any problems with the 13 gal trash bags. Seem to be sturdy enough for our use. I also used the smaller, 3 gal size and they are ok, but not the right size for my small waste cans in my bedrooms and bathroom. I need 4 gal., at least to fit the cans, so I don't order those anymore, but I will continue to order the 13 gal size. It is very difficult to near impossible to find degradable bags locally. Great substitution for plastic

    by Sheila C - 04/2010

I read the reviews before I bought these bags and was worried about how they would hold up. I have not had any problems with these bags at all. They could be bigger but I don't overstuff them and I am somewhat careful about what I put in it - like heavy items that could cause the bag to tear or items with sharp corners or sharp objects that could puncture the bag but for day-to-day kitchen waste, they work just fine and I am glad not to be filling the landfill with plastic. I will purchase these bags again.

    These bags are great

I like these bags a lot! I was afraid they would leak or tear more easily if they were bio-degradable but they don't. They are quite tough. Changing to using these bags is simple and easy... and is an environmentally smart at the same time.

    Kitchen bags worked!

    by Susan G - 03/2010

I read reviews that were mostly positive but one said the bags were too thin, so I ordered one box to be safe. We are very happy with performance and size. I will be ordering more. I have suggested your doggie bags for use in our condo--we have a LOT of dogs.

    New and Improved to Uselessness

    by Allison M - 02/2010

I've been using Biobags for two years now. I use the lawn & leaf size for yard cleanup, the compost bin size for doggie bomb cleanup and bathroom garbage and the kitchen size for, well, the kitchen. I love knowing that I am not putting my garbage into a plastic bag where it will never decompose. While I want to be earth friendly, I still want a bag that is reliable. In my last shipment from Reusable Bags, my Biobags all had the new and improved label on them. I was excited because every now and then a bag tears on me and it's frustrating, but livable because I know I'm not using plastic, and I was really hoping they had stepped it up a notch. I am so disappointed. These new and improved bags are worthless. I can't even put a tissue into them without them tearing. I've got through a whole roll of the kitchen bags and thrown away more than half of them because they tear when you take them off the roll, they tear when you put them in the waste basket, they tear when you put anything in them, and god forbid you want to take them out of the waste basket, they'll happily dump their entire contents on the floor for you. These were worth the cost before and eased my conscience for putting a bag out to the bin every two weeks, but now, it's a waste of money. I was a big fan for two years and now I'm looking for an alternative product and I know there really isn't one. Biobag, you just lost a customer! For those considering purchasing these today, RUN AWAY, they aren't the bag they used to be!

    Good for lightweight items

    by Laura W - 01/2010

I was hoping to be able to use these bags for my kitchen trash, however they are too thin for anything heavy. They would be perfect for lightweight trash.

    Great Bags

    by Gail G - 12/2009

These 13 gallon compostible bags are great! I feel good using them for my kitchen garbage, knowing that the bags are biodegradable and compostable. I am reordering today, having run through the first 3 boxes I ordered.

    love these bags

    by Karla Z - 12/2009

We don't have to much trash and therefore have a smaller sized kitchen garbage can and these fit wonderfully. If you had a tall can, it looks like you may have some trouble. I also agree that you need to be a little careful when you rip them off the roll or they'll tear, which is bad. Overall I love these and feel good that I need to order them because I no longer have a surplus of plastic bags.

    These bags saved my marriage!

    by Steve F - 12/2009

My wife got on a kick where she stopped using plastic garbage bags. We weren't using any bags at all and the garbage can was a complete mess! Refusing to clean out the can, I had to find something that would satisfy her "green" requirements. I found the BioBags after some intense internet research! We bought a four-pack of these bags. I was a little concerned about the reviews saying they were too short and not very sturdy. I was very pleased with the bags. These were labeled, "Now Longer and Stronger". They were the perfect size for our garbage can. They folded over the can with at least 8 inches to spare. They are very strong and tied very easily. We're so impressed, we buying 25 boxes to give away as Christmas gifts to our family. Also, no more arguing over who has to clean the garbage can! Great product! Thanks!

strong enough; good for the land

Our city has us sort things into compostables, recyclables, and garbage. These bags are must for keeping our kitchen container clean. Have started using them in other trash cans as I wean us off the plastic bags from the grocery and other stores (thanks to reusablebags.com!). They are not super tough. If you put heavy items into your trash, they may tear. Best used for compostables and in small cans around the house (they sell smaller sizes for that purpose).
