Design & functionality
Many communities have banned the use of regular plastic bags for yard waste removal, because polyethylene-based plastic bags cannot be composted with the yard waste or burned. Until now the alternative has been paper bags. Studies show paper bags are difficult for consumers to use and store, have a limited fill capacity (usually 28 gallons), and do not hold up well in wet weather. BioBag Lawn & Leaf bags can be set at curbside for up to 12 days before the collected waste will begin to break the bag down. We strongly recommend that wet grass clippings be left on the lawn, where the clippings will quickly biodegrade and add nutrient value to your lawn. Placing wet grass clippings in either a paper bag or a BioBag can stimulate bag decomposition within three or four days.
Materials
BioBags are made from a bio-polymer called Mater-Bi™, the first 100% biodegradable and compostable bio-polymer ever invented. Mater-Bi™ is made from cornstarch, vegetable oil & other renewable resources. It is completely biodegradable in different environments: in composting, in the soil & in fresh / salt water. 3rd party certifications include US, National & International certificates. BioBag packaging represents the company’s commitment to producing as environmentally friendly as possible and is not only made from natural fibers and recycled material, it’s 100% biodegradable & compostable. Inks and dyes are also soy based.
Sustainability
BioBags are a smart alternative to polyethylene/polypropylene based plastic bags. They’re designed to help people reduce the usage of new and recycled polyethylene-based plastic. Regular usage will help rid plastic bags from our environment. BioBags are made primarily from cornstarch and are certified to be 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable. Regular plastic bags do not biodegrade – they photodegrade whereby the elements break them down into smaller and toxic bits.
Some manufacturers are blending additives to polyethylene to produce bags marketed as “biodegradable” or “degradable”; these merely accelerate the photodegredation process. By rapidly breaking plastic into tiny bits – it gets rid of the eyesore but the plastic remains! Of course these do not meet the ASTM D6400-99 standard for biodegradable and compostable plastic. The claim of biodegradability offered by these products is misleading and should be avoided since we believe they represent the worst possible alternative. Click here for more.
About BioBag
BioBag is the world’s largest selling brand of biodegradable and compostable bags made from the material, Mater-Bi. Widely used for the collection of food waste for composting, BioBags are also popular among consumers who seek to reduce the amount of polyethylene-based plastics in the environment. BioBags are GMO free, certified for use in organic agriculture and CEN certified for restricted use of metals in our vegetable-based inks and dyes. BioBag products meet the ASTM D6400-99 requirements, which is the gold standard for compostable plastic. BioBags are shelf stable, just like paper towels, yet biodegrade quickly when exposed to nature’s elements and micro-organisms, leaving no harmful residues behind.
Biobags are made in Norway.

Terrible product for law clippings especially in South Texas (Houston). Bags break down within a couple of days and really only hold about 10 gallons without ripping. Stear clear of this disaster. Houston city goverment dropped the ball with this vendor. We can only hope for a repeal of this assine law.

New and Improved to Uselessness

I've been using Biobags for two years now. I use the lawn & leaf size for yard cleanup, the compost bin size for doggie bomb cleanup and bathroom garbage and the kitchen size for, well, the kitchen. I love knowing that I am not putting my garbage into a plastic bag where it will never decompose. While I want to be earth friendly, I still want a bag that is reliable. In my last shipment from Reusable Bags, my Biobags all had the new and improved label on them. I was excited because every now and then a bag tears on me and it's frustrating, but livable because I know I'm not using plastic, and I was really hoping they had stepped it up a notch. I am so disappointed. These new and improved bags are worthless. I can't even put a tissue into them without them tearing. I've got through a whole roll of the kitchen bags and thrown away more than half of them because they tear when you take them off the roll, they tear when you put them in the waste basket, they tear when you put anything in them, and god forbid you want to take them out of the waste basket, they'll happily dump their entire contents on the floor for you. These were worth the cost before and eased my conscience for putting a bag out to the bin every two weeks, but now, it's a waste of money. I was a big fan for two years and now I'm looking for an alternative product and I know there really isn't one. Biobag, you just lost a customer! For those considering purchasing these today, RUN AWAY, they aren't the bag they used to be!

Bags are ok but have to be very careful when tearing off the roll. They split really easily and have to be careful when using too.

I read some of the reviews for these bags before buying. Overall I am happy with the bags. I do agree with some of the other commentors that the bags need to be made a little stronger. I would also sort out the separation point between bags. If you are not very careful you run the risk of splitting bags up the side when trying to take just one bag. I DO limit what liquid waste I place into the bag which seems to extend its life span. All in all, I would recommend this product!

Definitely more delicate than traditional plastic
Definitely more delicate than traditional plastic bags, but thinking about one less non-biodegradable bag filling up landfills makes it totally worth it. I use these for my big kitchen bags, and when taking out a lot of cat litter or heavy, pokey trash I occasionally have to double-bag. Worth it though.

Have to be a little more careful about pokey stick
Have to be a little more careful about pokey sticks than in a regular lawn bag, but these are great!
