Design & functionality
BioBag kitchen waste bags are primarily for the collection of food scraps and other biodegradable waste for home or community composting. BioBag Tall Kitchen waste bags are sized equivalent to regular plastic bags and fit most kitchen waste cans. Perfect for collecting food waste, paper and other biodegradable packaging items. These bags are also great for collecting outdoor waste from small gardening areas.

Materials
BioBags are made from a bio-polymer called Mater-Bi™, the first 100% biodegradable and compostable bio-polymer ever invented. Mater-Bi™ is made from cornstarch, vegetable oil & other renewable resources. It is completely biodegradable in different environments: in composting, in the soil & in fresh / salt water. 3rd party certifications include US, National & International certificates. BioBag packaging represents the company’s commitment to producing as environmentally friendly as possible and is not only made from natural fibers and recycled material, it’s 100% biodegradable & compostable. Inks and dyes are also soy based.

Sustainability
BioBags are a smart alternative to polyethylene/polypropylene based plastic bags. They’re designed to help people reduce the usage of new and recycled polyethylene-based plastic. Regular usage will help rid plastic bags from our environment. BioBags are made primarily from cornstarch and are certified to be 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable. Regular plastic bags do not biodegrade – they photodegrade whereby the elements break them down into smaller and toxic bits.

Some manufacturers are blending additives to polyethylene to produce bags marketed as “biodegradable” or “degradable”; these merely accelerate the photodegredation process. By rapidly breaking plastic into tiny bits – it gets rid of the eyesore, but the plastic remains! Of course these do not meet the ASTM D6400-99 standard for biodegradable and compostable plastic. The claim of biodegradability offered by these products is misleading and should be avoided since we believe they represent the worst possible alternative. Click here for more.

About BioBag
BioBag is the world’s largest selling brand of biodegradable and compostable bags made from the material, Mater-Bi. Widely used for the collection of food waste for composting, BioBags are also popular among consumers who seek to reduce the amount of polyethylene-based plastics in the environment. BioBags are GMO free, certified for use in organic agriculture and CEN certified for restricted use of metals in our vegetable-based inks and dyes. BioBag products meet the ASTM D6400-99 requirements, which is the gold standard for compostable plastic. BioBags are shelf-stable, just like paper towels, yet biodegrade quickly when exposed to nature’s elements and micro-organisms, leaving no harmful residues behind.

Biobags are made in the USA.

    Count your bags!!

The past 2 orders have been short a couple of bags - thought it was a fluke the first time, but now I have to wonder how often it happens.

    Love Kitchen BioBags!

    by Mary S - 09/2011

When I saw Google corporate HQ using these bags, I decided if they were sturdy enough for office garbage and composting, they were good enough for me. I've been using them for two years now for my regular garbage and feel so much better about not polluting our landfills with more plastic.

I like the idea but these bags rip open when filled with normal kitchen waste. The material needs to be thicker and strong to be a viable alternative to plastic.

    biodegradable garbage bags

I like the idea...they are a bit small for my 13 gallon waste can so I just use a clip to hold it in the can. I wish there were more to a box though.

included twist ties not plastic free

    by Julie S - 06/2011

I'm environmentally minded in all of my shopping but typically see environmentally "firendly" products packaged in or with products that are counterintuative to that purpose. For example, organic foods packaged in plastic or biodegradable utentils shipped in plastic bags. In this case, the bags are packaged with plastic twist ties. Lose the ties and increase the bag length to create handles and this will be a perfect product!

    Will always use these

    by Brad G - 05/2011

Culture tells us we need heavy duty trash bags that are stretchy, odor proof, and we can jam them full. Most importantly, Bio Bags break down. But I also use them as a challenge to control my waste b/c the bags are smaller and more fragile.

    Great Product

    by Francesca S - 05/2011

Biobags have been a regular item in our house for quite a while. This was a reorder, so obviously we think the product rocks!

    GREAT!! LOVE THEM!!

    by Karen C - 05/2011

Thou not very sturdy for heavy or sharp, edgy waste, these bags are perfect for light weight trash like for the bathroom where most of the waste is tissues or bed rooms where the waste there will be light and or insignificant in weight. Best part... They’re biodegradable!

I like the concept of these bags a lot. The problem is that they don't fit that well into the garbage can, and tend to fall down (even without a lot of excess weight). The manufacturer should redesign the bags to attach better to the outside of the garbage can. Then I would buy these bags more often, as they would actually work, then.

    biobag 13 gall tall kitchen

These bags are much too thin- tear when you take them out of the garbage can even when half full and tear at the top when you try to tie them..i will not reorder or recommend them. Seems like it is hard to find a biodegradeable bag that is not too thin or too thick because made from recycled plastic- hard to beleive the thinck one biodegrade! Oh well i will keep looking.

These bags are exactly what i was looking for to put my kitchen food compost in. Paper bags also worked but these plastic bags work much better. Thanks.

    Strong enough

    by John M - 10/2010

These bags work well. The only criticism I have is that the opening isn't quite wide enough to fit my garbage pail. I have to stretch it almost to the point of tearing. Otherwise a great product.

Love them despite being too short

We love Bio Bags and wouldn't use anything else for our home garbage. I mean, how could you in good conscience use regular plastic that doesn't decompose! I really like the new design of the bottom of the bag but would love to have an extra inch two to tie the sides to keep the whole bag from falling into the can! Thanks Bio Bag for giving consumers options to the standard plastic bags! RG

    strong bags, very happy w/product!

    by Janel G - 09/2010

I was a little hesitant to order these because I was worried if they would be strong enough. So far they have held up great, and we are very pleased. We haven't had any problems with them. I will definitely reorder again. Thank you!

    Love these -- but...

    by Amanda R - 09/2010

These bags are great, but are a little small for our typical tall kitchen garbage can. We actually use these for our catbox (we have 3 inside fur-wearing masters). Since the box is changed 2x daily, these bags ensure our family is not adding to the environmental problems with traditional plastic bags. I guy in bulk to save a little extra money. Not as cheap as traditional plastic bags, but we're committed to being part of the solution...NOT part of the problem.
