Small: 10" H x 8" W
Design & functionality
The extra large size lightweight, muslin cotton bags are bigger than the standard plastic produce bags found in most grocery stores – great for oranges, broccoli and other leafy vegetables. The smaller size is great for a few pieces of fruit or small vegetables. Used with our produce savers you can save money as you help the environment by dramatically increasing the shelf life of your fruits and vegetables.
Also great for grains and other bulk products; to replace single-use baggies for use with dry snacks, nuts and lunch items; and as all-purpose gift or party favor bags. Alton Brown of The Food Network's Good Eats featured these handy bags to cook stuffing in on a Thanksgiving episode!
FYI
The tare weight of these bags in conveniently printed on the inside tags so you can let the cashier know to deduct this from the weight of your purchase. Plus, many stores will knock a few cents off your purchase when you bring your own bags.
- Extra Large = 34g (0.09 lb)
- Small = 15g (0.04 lb)
Materials
Organic cotton is a far superior alternative to chemical-laden conventional cotton. More and more farmers around the world are growing cotton without costly, harmful chemicals. Their yield is high and the quality of the cotton they grow is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton. Their methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water.
Sustainability
Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, at least for now, costs a bit more. But it is worth it since it doesn't contain any hidden costs to our environment. This bag can help you eliminate thousands of plastic bags over its lifetime. Our wide range of reusable bags are also built to last, which saves both money and natural resources.

Wrap and Tuck string for a tight closure
These bags are fantastic for buying bulk items: beans, nuts, dried fruit, spices, granola, grains, seeds, dried coconut, corn meal, rolled oats, chocolate chips, etc... I recommend the laundry mat technique to wrap and tuck of the draw string to contain small items like sesame seeds and rice. After pulling the drawstring closed wrap the string around once and then tuck it under and pull to create a tight closure. It works perfectly! This design is so simple and multifunctional I can't imagine an improvement on the design. Several people have said that the weight of the bag is not a concern. I disagree. I only use them at stores where I know the sales person knows how to ring a tare. Most healthfood stores and food coops will do this, but you would be surprised. I would check first. For example a pound of organic almonds might cost 11.99. With a tare of 0.09 that would be an additional $1.07 per pound! This adds up if you buy all or most of your groceries in bulk. Not weighing the bag tare would probably cost me an additional $100/year. Buisinesses will offer to tare bags if there is enough demand. It won't hurt to ask.

second time ordering...
Second time ordering these bags. They are great for the farmers market, washable and sturdy.

The muslin snack bag is disappointing - I thought it could be used to store greens in the refrigerator but they just wilted instead of staying crisp. I trust that the bags will be fine for hardier fruits and vegetables and for dry snacks. They are light and easy to use, that's a plus.

I use them everyday
I got these bags just in time for summer when all the produce stands are coming out and I am so glad I did. I have been able to avoid plastic bags since buying these. I love how they didn't come in any plastic either.

Organic cotton muslin bags
Will be using them for a wedding. They will be filled with healthy organic treats and given to the children coming to our wedding. We are hoping they will have a snack to tide them over during the reception before dinner is served. We are also ironing on a transfer to personalize them!

Be even MORE green at the grocery store!
I purchased these bags to replace the wasteful produce bags at the grocery store. This purchase was to increase my supply because I am sometimes left without them when they are in the wash. The large size bags are REALLY big compared to the small ones. I wish there was a medium! The small will hold a couple onions or apples, while the large is about the size (maybe a little bigger) of a plastic produce bag (but WAY sturdier). They are so versatile - I keep one for my iPod and headphones for the gym - and they are easy to clean. I sometimes accidentally put them in the dryer and they shrink A LOT, so you want to be careful with the small ones - I think I'll purposefully put the large ones in the dryer, though. They do weigh more than plastic bags and although they are marked for the cashier to tare them on the scale, I seriously doubt many cashiers know how to do this, even if they are able to. Wegman's grocery stores allow you to weigh and print your own labels, so I just weigh without the bag and then put them in. When shopping elsewhere, I just accept that I'm going to pay a few cents more - I'm sure if I asked them to give me credit for the reusable produce bags along with the grocery bags, they probably would.

Perfect for intended use
0 out of 1 customers found this review helpful
Product use: The intention of the product is to serve as a reusable alternative to the plastic bags that are made available by grocery stores for things such as a produce and other stuff (i.e., purchasing rice or yogurt covered pretzels in bulk). This serves its purpose wonderfully. The only hassle is that it's easy to spill grains, such as rice. For things such as a produce or other bulk items that aren't as small, these are perfect. It's highly suggested that things like leafy fresh greens not be stored in these past the trip to the grocery store. Storage for fruits like apples, mushrooms, etc., they're not too bad. Construction: Built with organic cotton, the make of these are suitable for the intended use. Obviously, washing produce isn't a solid option in this respect. The drawstring helps secure the contents of the bag. There's a tag on the inside with washing instructions as well as the weight of the bag. Appearance: Plain and simple natural color. No logos or anything. Value: I'm neutral about it. I can see why these could be a problem - these cost more than the reusable bags probably four times the size. Because the are organic cotton though, I see the price as suitable. They are of good quality. Dislikes: None.

I love these bags!

I was already using reusable bags for all of my shopping and produce but couldn't figure out how to get around using plastic bags in the bulk section. These are perfect! I even put flour and corn meal in them! I have also been using them as freezer bags. These bags are the best!

Great Bread Bag!

I purchased this bag to avoid buying bread in plastic bags. Now I just hand over the cotton bag at the grocery store to be filled with fresh loaves of bread! So far it has worked great.

Great Bags
I love these bags for the bulk bins of my grocery store. The small size are perfect for the granola or grains, while the large are big enough for fresh greens.

Wonderful Replacement for Produce bags
2 out of 2 customers found this review helpful
I purchased my first lot of these a few years ago and they work excellent. Some people have complained about the extra weight cost but unless you are drenching them with water I don't see how this could drive the cost up that much. Most of the produce is per bunch and the ones that require a weight measurement have not cost much extra at all. The drawstrings make them easy to close and keep the items in and when I get them dirty they are easy to wash. I highly recommend these for anyone looking to replace those awful produce bags in the grocery store. These bags are so light, easy to carry, easy to clean and affordable.I have recently purchased more of these bags and I use them all the time. I think it's great that there are also two sizes though I mostly use the large because I never know what type of produce or how much I will be buying.
