    Most fresh produce releases an ethylene gas that accelerates decomposition and causes food to spoil. Evert-Fresh bags absorb and remove this gas to prolong food life and reduce vitamin loss up to 50%. From the makers of Debbie Meyer Green Bags, these Evert-Fresh produce-saving bags are reusable several times over. Surface helps to remove moisture, which inhibits bacterial growth.

    As an alternative, check out our new reuseit.com Produce Saver, another solution without the plastic bag waste.

Dimensions:
small = 1/2 gallon 6" X 15" X 4"
medium = gallon 7" X 17" X 5"
large = 1.5 gallons 9" X 21" X 6"

Design and Functionality
These ingenious green produce bags offer a natural way to absorb the enzyme-producing gases that cause vegetables to deteriorate. Evert-Fresh Green Bags (from the makers of Debbie Meyer Green Bags) are made from low density-polyethylene that is coated with a fine layer of natural clay containing high levels of a mineral proven to absorb ethylene gas. Three sizes - choose small for grapes and berries, medium for peaches and apples, large for celery stalks, oranges and other tall or large produce.

Using Evert Fresh Green Bags can extend the life of produce 3 to 10 times - so you avoid throwing away uneaten produce - saving you money and while helping cut down on waste. Green Bags can also play a role in lowering your carbon footprint since less waste leads to buying less, and making fewer trips to the grocery store and/or market.

Materials
Like Debbie Meyer Green Bags, Evert-Fresh Green Bags are made from low density-polyethylene that is coated with a fine layer of natural clay (oya) containing high levels of a mineral proven to absorb ethylene gas

Sustainability
Each bag has the capacity to absorb ethylene 8-10 times. After 8-10 uses we suggest you continue to reuse the bag as a produce bag especially for items you plan on eating quickly and/or are not prone to rapid decomposition.

Food waste produces methane (a greenhouse gas) when it decays in landfills. Reduce your food waste and you help limit this gas. Plus, by wasting less you’ll also help decrease the energy and materials needed to produce, package and transport food – all which add to greenhouse gas production. In fact, in the UK alone, food transport accounts for 25% of all the miles driven by large vehicles!

About EvertFresh
Researchers, seeking new and better ways to preserve foods, discovered that for thousands of years, farmers in some regions of the world had been housing produce in mountain caves with impressive results.

Not only were these caves consistently cool, dry and dark, their composition included a type of clay called oya, a natural adsorbent of ethylene gas. Ethylene is the gas given off by produce as it ripens, and then continues to accelerate the natural decay of the food.

Using this knowledge, Evert-Fresh developed the original Green Bag - organic, they absorb ethylene and extend the life of produce.

Care Instructions
To reuse, simply rinse with water only (no soap) and let thoroughly dry (we recommend turning inside out to dry). After 8-10 uses we suggest you continue to reuse the bag as a produce bag especially for items you plan on eating quickly and/or are not prone to rapid decomposition.

Tips
  • Store produce in a cool, dry and dark place.
  • Don't crowd or combine different product in same bag.
  • Be sure to rinse bags after each use and dry thoroughly.
  • If excess moisture is present, dry produce thoroughly and place in dry green bag with a cloth napkin or towel.
  • The active ingredient in Evert-Fresh Green Bags is recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture in its Handbook #668 to counteract the negative effects of ethylene gas on fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • For best results, keep bags shut by tying in a knot or securing with a clothes pin.
  • Use the plastic bag and bottle dryer to dry just-washed bags.

Great bags!

by Karma R - 05/2012

I have been a fan of the bags for quite some time. Bought these to give to employees as prizes. We are part of a wellness - so anything that prolongs the life of fruits and vegetables is good and I am on the "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" team. This hits all of my goals.

Glad to still find these

by darcy s - 03/2012

These were the original produce saver bags I found and they worked great. Then I stopped being able to find them and used another brand that was not great! So glad these are back in my life- really work and save a lot of money not throwing away produce that goes bad too quickly.

They do what they are meant to do, but I'm not sure I like that they're plastic and it's a gas inside that is protecting the vegetables. I also have no clue whether actual nutrients are preserved...I use them and they serve their purpose, but as someone who consumes a lot of produce rather quickly and depends on their nutrients, and is trying to help the environment by not using a lot of plastic, I regret purchasing them.

These bags are great!

Wow, these bags really do help produce stay fresher longer! Love it. I've started to take some to the grocery store with me to use in place of the disposable plastic baggies they supply in the produce department. Saves the planet and saves me time when I get home from the store. Afterwards, the bags wash up easily to do it all again...

Love these bags!

These bags work great at keeping my vegies fresh longer. I usually end up throwing away some of my lettuce because it turns brown before I can use it up. Since I've started using the green bags, the lettuce not only doesn't turn brown quickly, but it stays crisp.

Great product

Be sure your produce is DRY before you load it in the bag. Fold the bag end loosely. Bags work by absorbing the gas that ripens fruits and veggies. I found that bananas store best by not closing the end - they give off a lot of moisture. Bags last longer than suggested on the packaging.

Stops food waste

I've been using Evert Fresh Bags since Backpacker magazine reviewed them several years ago. They have saved me hundreds of dollars and virtually eliminated the dreaded food waste. I can buy a huge variety of vegees for a salad without worrying that they will rot before I can use them up. I like the original Evert Fresh bags as opposed to the Debbie Meyer brand you find in the grocery store, because you can purchase as many of the size that you need rather that the combo pack that includes too many large ones.
