We knew we had a winner on our hands when we found this simple, safe and smart lunch box. With 5 large containers, there’s plenty of room for all your kid’s food but there’s only one lid to snap shut. Kids will love customizing with over 275 stickers and the built-in handle makes it easy to tote around and hang up at school.

Pair it with utensils and a napkin for a complete lunch kit.

A note from the manufacturer: "You may notice a small treasure compartment lid which attached to the top, larger lid of the Goodbyn lunchbox in these photos. We have decided, after considerable thought, not to ship this piece with the Goodbyn lunchbox. Functionality is first and foremost in our minds, and it never really worked like you would expect it to—not sealing completely and falling off easily. If we shipped with it, we felt both at retail and in consumers' hands, it would become a 'throwaway' item which became worrisome to us as a company."

Design & Functionality
The fun starts with customization – kids can write their names and make funny faces with the stickers in each box. The smart, one-piece lid seals each compartment separately – so your sandwich won’t taste like your banana and your crackers won’t get wet. Easy-to-open ears and a built-in handle make it simple for small hands – large top container great for leftovers or large pieces of fruit, two side containers for dips and sauces, a bottom container for stacked sandwich halves, salads and more and the 8oz bottle fits right in the middle with plenty of extra room for utensils and a napkin. When the lunch box is open, all the colorful foods and fun shapes will encourage healthy eating habits.

Materials
Made entirely of FDA-approved materials, 100% recyclable and made in the USA. Lunch box is BPA-free, pthlate-free Polypropylene (#5) plastic. Water bottle is HDPE (#2). CPSIA Certified.

Sustainability
Goodbyn Lunch Boxes replace hundreds of plastic baggies, single-serve food containers, juice boxes, plastic water bottles and other disposable containers every year. And you’ll waste less money – by not using plastic bags and drink boxes you can save $190 per year, per child.

Tips
  • Send the water bottle to school partially frozen – it’ll keep the water cold and help keep your child’s lunch cool.
  • Get the kids involved in packing their lunches – they’re more likely to eat foods they prepared.

    NOT SO GOOD.NOT SO BAD

    by melissa g - 06/2010

I had read prior reviews about the Goodbyn prior to purcahsing it, but I felt like the good out-weighed the bad. It is a GREAT concept, but I do agree with everyone that it needs some tweeking. #1- STAY AWAY FROM THE DISHWASHER. Prior to the dishwasher my 5yr old had no trouble opening and closing it. Now he always needs help and even his teachers have trouble closing it. #2- You cannot use the drink bottle with liquids. I put snacks in ours, but drinks? No way! They should have just left it as a screw on cap and not put the pop-up thing on it. #3- Out of all of the stickers they provide, they all just make monsters. We need animal stickers. Normal people stickers. Robot stickers....Just some suggested improvements. All in all, I feel like it was a good by. We will try to use it next year in kindergarten and see how it goes.

Too big, too hard to close

    by Sarah S - 05/2010

I bought this for my son to take to first grade. It seems like such a good idea, but it has some operational problems. First, it's huge, and when filled with food, would be very heavy for a 6 year old. Second, and this is the heart of the problem, it's really hard to open and close. I could get it sealed, but I'm sure that he wouldn't be able to completely re-seal it after eating, and that means that anything with juices would be sure to leak all over his backpack. I haven't decided whether to send it back or try to sell it locally.

    My son loves it

I was worried that this might be a little too bulky but my son totally loves it and the compartments work well for us. We didn't do the stickers because I was worried that they'd get all worn and mangy looking.

    convenient

It is so convenient! I love having to only wash ONE container and lid instead of the 6 I had in my son's lunch box before. It has made it through a lot of leftover pasta and has NOT stained. We have been able to go fully litterless and it makes leftovers fun! My kids love their Goodbyns! Environmentally friendly, convenient, fun AND gets my kids to eat left overs and be excited about it...yeah it's a wonderful thing!

    simpified my mornings!

    by Joe H - 04/2010

We've had these for about 5 months now and we love them. My 7 and 9 year olds use these every day. As the morning person in the house, I'm the lunch making dad, we switched from using Gladware type containers and every morning I couldnt find the right tops for the bottoms (i'm pretty sure they were getting thrown out at school). So this has saved my sanity making lunch making really simple with 5 compartments and only 1 lid. I just throw leftovers, spaghetti, yogurt, chips, crackers or whatever in the sections snap the lid on and the kids are out the door. We haven't had any problems with leaking drink bottles like the other reviewers but I also send juice boxes from time to time. (i know: very bad, but the girls like getting caprisuns from time to time as a treat)

    Not as expected

Used the Goodbyn for the first time today, 4/19/10. The bottle leaked and liquid got into a few of the compartments, making bread and vegetables soggy. I am very disappointed in this product. The plastic is weak and the item doesn't snap shut to stay shut. Also, the color is not close to how it appeared on the Goodbyn site. Not what I expected for the price. Very disappointed.

I purchased a goodbyn for my 7 year old. The water bottle leaked due to a flaw in the production and they sent out a new one. Then the braces on the bottom cracked, the handle cracked due to puuling hard to open the box and there is a indentation line around the sandwich compartment. Too many defects for such an expensive piece of plastic.

    Doesn't hold up

    by Michelle W - 02/2010

I bought this in the Fall for my preschooler in order to save on baggies in her lunch. I stopped using it by November because it is next to impossible to get the lid on now. I don't know if putting it in the dishwasher has caused it or what. If it is that hard for me to get on, how can a child be expected to. I really love the idea of it, but practically it just doesn't work.

    Very cute and functional, but...

    by Laurie M - 02/2010

It is difficult for my 6-year-old kindergartener to get it completely closed after lunch--probably wouldn't have been an issue in preschool as he could more easily elicit help from teachers then. Also, unless your child has a refrigerator at school to keep it in, it doesn't keep things cool on its own. I have a flat cooler pack that I rubber band to the lunchbox as he keeps it in his backpack until his 12:45 lunch. It does seal off each compartment and the milk bottle does not leak as long as you place it in the compartment opening side down as the lunchbox holds it closed. We learned that lesson the first time we used it. And he did love to decorate it with the stickers and they appear to be dishwasher safe as well. We purchased a Laptop Lunch kit for my older son and there is a mesh liner in the "briefcase" to stash a cold-pack in. I think it would also have been a better choice for my six-year-old as well.

    Great ideas are expensive

    by Zachary F - 02/2010

1 out of 1 customers found this review helpful

The price seemed to be an appropriate starting point, so no massive deal to be had here, but not completely unreasonable. It's basically a large piece of tupperware that seals individual compartments entirely, so you don't need to use additional containers or baggies regardless of what you're putting in there, which is a great concept for people who don't want to throw away a 1/2 lb of packaging every day. The lid is difficult to remove, so probably not something the smaller kids could remove on their own. The stickers look to be waterproof but I haven't had it long enough to see how it fairs in the dishwasher over time. It is also a tad bulky, I think they should consider making them in different sizes maybe...

    GREAT PRODUCT.....but....

    by Nicole B - 12/2009

I agree that its somewhat difficult to close, but we really liked the lunch box -- especially that we could throw it into the dishwasher at the end of the day. Somehow - it fell from about waist high (my 8 year old son's waist) and cracked! ;-( I'm not sure if the dishwasher weakened it, but I figured it would last at least the school year....oh well - guess there was a reason I bought two!

The idea is great, this lunchbox would be perfect

    by Isabelle C - 11/2009

The idea is great, this lunchbox would be perfect if only my 6 year old son would be able to open and close it by himself. He can't take it to school now because of that, so I had to buy another lunchbox. I am very, very disappointed!

Love the idea and look of this lunchbox

    by Fara L - 11/2009

Love the idea and look of this lunchbox. My daughter loves the personalized sticker experience. Foregoing the plastic bags is great, fits perfectly into the backpack and handle is handy. But the box is difficult to close properly. My daughter has to have a teacher do it for her at school and I even have a hard time sealing all edges in a timely manner (and I do not put it in the dishwasher). I would recommend it for an older child, but would hesitate with young ones.

I quite like the goodbyn lunch box

    by Anne P - 10/2009

I quite like the goodbyn lunch box. The only reason I'm rating it a four out of five is that I sometimes have to double check to make sure that the lid is fitting properly...it can take a couple of tries to get it right. otherwise, great product!
