Design and Functionality
Designed in 1963 in a New York City Greek café, the “We are Happy to Serve You” cup was picked up by delis and cafes throughout the city. This intricate, ceramic replica of the world-famous paper cup was exclusively licensed from the Solo Cup Operating Corporation. Every detail from the paper version is there, even the seam down the side. When you're in New York, you'll see people walking to work, blowing on their hot coffee in these same cups - only disposable. Just like the original paper cup, these ceramic one's don't have a lid. The sturdy ceramic construction allows you to drink hot liquids without a handle, so they're a practical way to cut back on paper or Styrofoam cups at your work or school coffee station.
Materials
Certified lead- and cadmium-free ceramic.
Sustainability
Approximately 180,000,000 paper We Are Happy to Serve You cups are sold each year - that’s a lot of waste for just one cup in one city. This ceramic replica is a clever reminder that there are alternatives to use-and-toss items, and it's also an ideal replacement for the Styrofoam or paper cups at your office coffee station.

Very happy with purchase!
I bought this out of nostalgia and wasn't really sure I'd actually use it as a mug (pencil holder? heehee). I have to say, I like the way it feels in the hand and even though coffee cools off rather quickly, I also use the "pre-warm your cup" trick on occasion and I think this is a very good item!

Great Design / Gets Hot
I love these little mugs! I have one at my office and four at home. People are amazed that they are ceramic versions of the NYC paper cups. My only gripe? When you pour hot coffee in them, the mug realllly heats up on the outside. I try not to pour my coffee all the way to the top, so I can grip the mug from the top to drink. Once the coffee cools a little bit, then you can grab the mug wherever you want.

Almost perfect...

The only reason I didn't rate this cute coffee cup five stars is its size. I wish it held a little more coffee at one time, especially since the rolled lip means you can't fill it and walk with it. Also, because it's double-walled ceramic and wide at the top, this mug quickly cools your coffee. For those who actually like a hot cup of coffee (give me warm, thank you very much), you can pre-warm the cup by filling it with hot water for a minute or two. Note: Despite my hopes, the "I Am Not a Paper Cup" lids do not fit this cup.

I bought my hubby a couple of these for Christmas (along with a Frieling 33oz. Stainless Steel French Press from Clive Coffee--fabulous french press!!) and they're great. They feel sturdy and are comfortable in your hand, and they fit well into our car's center-console cupholder.

Great cup!

I was born in NYC and remember the paper version of this cup from my youth. I moved away and then back in my 20's, met my husband there (who was from elsewhere) and we moved away in the 1970's. He didn't remember the cup but now we've seen it on 2 or 3 TV shows or movies set in NY, and because of the quality of this cup its hard to know if those were made of paper or your ceramic. I really do love this cup - feel of the ceramic and that it doesn't have a high gloss finish. Plus its a fun conversation piece. I ordered one for our son who was born in NY too.

Purchased these solely for nostalgia purposes for my sister and me. I have always loved the NYC Greek coffee cups, and now, even though I live pretty far from NY, I have a permanent one.

This coffee cup is a faithful recreation of the famous New York City deli coffee cup, from the pattern and colors right down to the slightly off shape that sometimes comes with paper cups. The detail is the neatest thing about this mug. It has a fold in the lip and a crease along the side where the pattern seems to finish its "wrap". I'm not sure if it's totally faithful to the actual height of the original paper cup, because it does seem much shorter than other paper cups. It's a good weight and is quite unusual, especially since it has no mug handle.
