Design & functionality
Klean Kanteen is a reusable, risk-free stainless steel container that does not leach toxins into its contents. Reusable, lightweight & durable. The wide-mouth accommodates ice cubes and makes cleaning easy. Sports cap and size make this bottle ideal for sports and other activities.
Materials
Made from electropolished, non-leaching, high grade 304 L.N. (18/8) stainless steel. Klean Kanteen’s 304 L.N. stainless steel is grade blended specifically for food preparation, dairy, brewing, various medical uses and other applications where mineral migration is unacceptable. The steel is put through a electropolishing process which seals the surface and prevents minerals from migrating into the contents. These reusable, risk-free stainless steel containers do not impart taste and do not leach toxins into their contents. Plastics (polycarbonate) have been shown to leach carcinogens including BPA during regular use, exposure to heat and especially after cleaning. From manufacturing, to use and disposal, plastics pollute our health and environment.
Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, inert and sanitary.
Sustainability
100% recyclable. Using Klean Kanteen bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable Klean Kanteen bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time. Furthermore, 304 (or 18/8) stainless steel is a sustainable material, having a long service life, usability in a number of applications and is environmentally friendly. Stainless steel needs less maintenance and its hygienic qualities means that we do not have to use harsh cleaners to get a clean surface. There is little or nothing to dump into the drain that could have an environmental impact.

About Klean Kanteen
Klean Kanteen, a family-owned company in Chico, CA, was the first to create a stainless steel beverage container to curb the use of the one-time use water bottle and in response to credible reports about chemicals in common plastic drinking and food containers. Since 2004, Klean Kanteen has been informing the public about the health and environmental hazards of eating and drinking from plastic containers at consumer and trade shows such as Green Festivals, Outdoor Retailer Market, Natural Products Expo West and East, Interbike Expo, Whole Children Whole Planet and many others.
Klean Kanteen visits their manufacturing facilities 4-5 times per year and perform audits every six months to ensure all of our products are produced with respect for the environment and fair labor standards, including: the ethical treatment of factory workers, child labor, wages/benefits, health and safety, etc. Additionally, they do regular lab testing on random shipments through a local lab in the U.S. to ensure their products are made per their specifications, are free of hazardous substances such as lead, and do not leach chromium, manganese, etc.

Care Instructions
Klean Kanteens are dishwasher safe (washing caps in the dishwasher is not recommended because H2O can squeeze into the cap) or easy to clean with a bottle brush and mild soap. We recommend an old fashioned cleaner: white vinegar and baking soda. Stainless steel does not rust. If your bottle appears to have rusted, it is a harmless residue left behind from the electro-polishing process. Electro charges remove fine particles from the stainless steel surface, remove impurities and seal it. Electrolytes left behind sometimes turn a rust color, but it's harmless.
Was good at first but now poor
I must be one of the few that doesn't really like Kleen Kanteen. I've had 3 bottles for about one year now and almost all the paint is chipping or peeling off. At first the water tasted fresh from this bottle but now it has a metal taste and the cap also has a yucky taste that doesn't go away. I will not buy any more.

Funny Noise
I really love these bottles! The only complaint I have is that they sometimes make a funny noise when you drink them. My husband even likes his new reusable bottle! We will probably buy the next size up in a few months.

Won't leave home without it
My KK goes with me everywhere. Its nice to have safe, clean fresh water handy. I have more than one. One for water, one for iced tea and they both travel with me in the summer. Paired with the BUILTNY Sleeve I have a winning combination. No more disposable plastic bottle for me. Worth the price for a life time of use.

kleen indeed
I bought two of these; one for each kiddo and finally pitched the 5-yr old sippy cups!! (they were passed down ... probably not the best plan, but it worked!) Anyway; true to their names, these babies do NOT hold flavor. Usually they hold water with a little juice added for flavor, but there is no stain or smell or taste of juice left over. Perfect size for them; saves constant refills but isn't too heavy for my 3-yr-old to carry around and drink from. I got them the sports caps so I wouldn't have to worry too much about spills and my son being able to open the screw-top on the original lid. Great stuff!

Love these... I bought four for our family about a year ago and am now adding more so we can have a set to keep at home, and a set for on the go. PRODUCT USE/CONSTRUCTION: The kids keep these by their beds for when they get thirsty at night - I like that the water doesn't take on a plasticky taste if I forget the bottles upstairs for a day or two. I also started using the taller, 18 oz. size as a carafe for *filtered* water in our upstairs bathroom, because our city water is undergoing a three-month treatment that leaves the tap water with a nasty chlorine smell. Another thing I like about these is that if you fill them first with ice cubes, then top off with water, they keep the rest of our snacks cool so I don't have to carry a separate cold pack in the bag. Note: I do have to be careful to keep the sport tops completely shut and upright, to avoid spillage, but everything's packed pretty tightly anyway so it's not a big deal. The sippy cup spouts don't spill at all. And if you use the loop cap there's no leakage at all. (My theory is that the leakage is due to the different expansion rates of metal and plastic - so metal cap + metal bottle = tight seal.) APPEARANCE/VALUE: I really like the new bright colors! Wasn't a fan of the muddy earth tones, but have always liked the industrial look of the simple stainless steel. The bottles are pricier than your average plastic bottle, but I'll never need to buy another plastic bottle. (And on sale they're a great deal!!) Plus I love that after the sippy cup stage I can just replace the spout and the bottles work for big kids and grownups too. Wish that the bottles were just sold separately from the caps, so that one can choose the most useful style of cap instead of having to buy sport caps separately. Overall - really happy with our KK bottles, I feel the extra care of handwashing and keeping them upright is more than outweighed by the knowledge that we're not ingesting toxic chemicals with our drinking water.

Happy Pink
I know that color isn't a reason to buy a water bottle but whenever I see this pink I just have to smile. The wide mouth allows for an ice cube to go and that will be nice when winter turns to summer. I do find it easy to tighten it so hard that I need help to open it so must learn not to do that anymore.

Does not leak with original cap. Also,buyers should know that the bottle dents slightly if dropped on the bottom. Then the base will be uneven, which is what happened to mine.

I have had a large 40oz Kleen Kanteen for a couple years that I adore and never leave the house without. I decided to get a smaller one for my daughter to take to school. She loves it! Great investment!

Need bottle cap choices when ordering

I love the Klean Kanteen bottles. I have slowly been building up my collection over time. Recently my son came home with a note to send a water bottle to school to keep at his desk. Of course I ordered him a Klean Kanteen. My only objection to this product is that I would like an option when ordering the bottle of what type of cap I would like to have. Most often we use the sports cap which I have to buy separately each and every time. At $3 each, it greatly increases the cost of the bottle. It is also wasting a lot of bottle caps which just sit in the back of my cabinet, taking up space.

I bought this to replace my Sigg bottle. I had one of their older styles that were now discontinued (and replaced with "safer" versions). I wasn't overly worried about the BPA leaching but just thought I'd go ahead and get the plain stainless bottle. I mostly use it in the car that I can grab for walks or just have water always available. The 18 oz is a good size for that, not too big or too small. I enjoyed the prints available with the Sigg Bottles, but it didn't matter that much, I just got a nice solid green one from Kleen Kanteen.

Love the colors! Helps keep track of each family members drink. Note that these feel slightly heavier than the unpainted stainless, and the paint does chip.

LOVE these! They are the perfect size for my 8 year olds. We put ice in them (easy to fill and clean), add water, and the contents stay cold for hours. I think the sport top is a must have with this purchase. Love the colors, too.
