Design & functionality
Klean Kanteen is a reusable, risk-free stainless steel container that does not leach toxins into its contents. Reusable, lightweight & durable. The wide-mouth accommodates ice cubes and makes cleaning easy. Sports cap and size make this bottle ideal for sports and other activities.
Materials
Made from electropolished, non-leaching, high grade 304 L.N. (18/8) stainless steel. Klean Kanteen’s 304 L.N. stainless steel is grade blended specifically for food preparation, dairy, brewing, various medical uses and other applications where mineral migration is unacceptable. The steel is put through a electropolishing process which seals the surface and prevents minerals from migrating into the contents. These reusable, risk-free stainless steel containers do not impart taste and do not leach toxins into their contents. Plastics (polycarbonate) have been shown to leach carcinogens including BPA during regular use, exposure to heat and especially after cleaning. From manufacturing, to use and disposal, plastics pollute our health and environment.
Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, inert and sanitary.
Sustainability
100% recyclable. Using Klean Kanteen bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable Klean Kanteen bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time. Furthermore, 304 (or 18/8) stainless steel is a sustainable material, having a long service life, usability in a number of applications and is environmentally friendly. Stainless steel needs less maintenance and its hygienic qualities means that we do not have to use harsh cleaners to get a clean surface. There is little or nothing to dump into the drain that could have an environmental impact.

About Klean Kanteen
Klean Kanteen, a family-owned company in Chico, CA, was the first to create a stainless steel beverage container to curb the use of the one-time use water bottle and in response to credible reports about chemicals in common plastic drinking and food containers. Since 2004, Klean Kanteen has been informing the public about the health and environmental hazards of eating and drinking from plastic containers at consumer and trade shows such as Green Festivals, Outdoor Retailer Market, Natural Products Expo West and East, Interbike Expo, Whole Children Whole Planet and many others.
Klean Kanteen visits their manufacturing facilities 4-5 times per year and perform audits every six months to ensure all of our products are produced with respect for the environment and fair labor standards, including: the ethical treatment of factory workers, child labor, wages/benefits, health and safety, etc. Additionally, they do regular lab testing on random shipments through a local lab in the U.S. to ensure their products are made per their specifications, are free of hazardous substances such as lead, and do not leach chromium, manganese, etc.
Care Instructions
Klean Kanteens are easy to clean with a bottle brush and mild soap. We recommend an old fashioned cleaner: white vinegar and baking soda. Stainless steel does not rust. If your bottle appears to have rusted, it is a harmless residue left behind from the electro-polishing process. Electro charges remove fine particles from the stainless steel surface, remove impurities and seal it. Electrolytes left behind sometimes turn a rust color, but it's harmless.

Functional and efficient
Functional and efficient. I purchased a Klean Kanteen on the recommendation from my friend, who's a very health conscious individual. I have been aware of the hazards of using aluminum containers for a while, but I didn't know that plastic containers were so detrimental to one's health as well. Klean Kanteens are a perfect solution to both of these problems, are built sustainably, and are pretty sharp looking too. I think the 40oz size is great, because one and a half of these is your daily water portion!

A great product: absolutely no taste transference,
A great product: absolutely no taste transference, good size. It does make a kind of gobbly noise when I am drinking. I think this is from the air intake port. Not bad, but it is a noise.

I love the 40 oz. Klean Kanteen. It holds plenty of water for a day of work. I especially like the wide opening. (I gave my Sigg bottle to my husband to use. He doesn't mind the smaller opening.) I fill it with filtered water from home and it has never had a bad taste from day 1. (We have a reverse osmosis water filter system so our water has no taste.) I just carry water in it so I just rinse it out each nite, let it drain upside down for a while, and it's ready for the next day.

Love these bottles!
Love these bottles! I love the 40 oz especially so that I can get my day's worth of water in just 1 and a half fillings! The container does not impart a metal taste to the water. The water stays fresh. The semi-wide mouth makes it easy to drink out of. Here are the only Minor drawbacks (and why I did not give 5 stars): 1. the beautiful color on the outside got scratched already in the first weekend of use and 2. I smell a metal scent as a drink the water. YUCK 3. The cap squeaks as I twist it on and off. Otherwise, this bottle is cool! Wish it were available in ORANGE at this site.

I purchased the Kleen Kanteen 40oz bottle in blue
I purchased the Kleen Kanteen 40oz bottle in blue to try and stop plastic waste. I try to do my part in saving the environment from using this bottle, to only buying 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. I really love the bottle as it doesn't give any taste regardless of how long the water has been in there. It's solid in terms on construction (why wouldn't it be? It's stainless steel! The plastic cap is great to hook a clip onto, and I use the sport cap when I am at the gym. My only gripe was, somehow in the dishwasher it got a scratch and it, and it has visible rust where it was scratched. Perhaps this is only with the painted bottles. Will def order more though!

A great product that arrived quickly and securely
A great product that arrived quickly and securely. The canteen is great for keeping water or any other beverage cold for a reasonably long period of time. The construction is very solid, the stopper at the top does not leak even if tipped over or jostled. The wide opening of the canteen permits ice cubes to be easily inserted. I suppose the best thing, particularly for us that live in Hawaii, is that you don't treat us like we live in Antarctica and charge more for shipping than the cost of the product itself. Your extremely reasonable shipping and handling prices are very welcome and refreshing.

I had been searching everywhere for a stainless water bottle for my husband. He prefers to have a bottle that holds at least 1 liter, and I was having an incredibly difficult time locating on that met his needs. By chance, I found your store when searching on line. Not only did you have the perfect 40 oz. bottle (in my husbands favorite color, black), but it was priced lower than all of the smaller/lesser quality items that I had seen in other stores. My main concern for this water bottle was taste--I was afraid the contents would have a metallic flavor, but I am delighted to report that everything tastes fresh and clean, even when I leave water in the bottle overnight! I am very happy to have finally found a permanent solution to plastic!

Great light weight H2O bottle, but a tad too chunk
Great light weight H2O bottle, but a tad too chunky in size for me. I wanted a large capacity bottle, and this one is it, but I'd like it even better if it was just a little taller & slimmer which would make it easier to handle. Especially when it's full!

awesome bottle!
awesome bottle!!! I will fill my bottle with ice and top it off with water at 7am and it is still nice and chilled at 1pm. the water does have a bit of a metallic taste but this is nothing new when it comes to stainless steel containers. I highly recommend getting the sports spout because it can be little bit of a pain screwing and unscrewing a 40oz bottle.

I really like this water bottle - the mouth is eas
I really like this water bottle - the mouth is easier to drink out of than larger mouth varities and the hoop on the top of the cap makes it easy to tote around. The 40oz size does take some getting used to, and I will probably eventually get a smaller size as well.

This is a really nice, professional looking bottle
This is a really nice, professional looking bottle. I love the moss green color. Other reviewers had mentioned that the mouth of the bottle seems too large, but I disagree. It's midway between the large and small sizes of the Nalgene bottles. It easily fits ice cubes, but is still small enough to keep it from splashing on your shirt when drinking. I like that the water doesn't have a plastic smell or taste to it.
