Klean Kanteen stainless steel caps are designed to fit the Klean Kanteen 12 oz, 18 oz, 27 oz and 40 oz stainless steel water bottles. Plastics containers tend to leach unwelcome compounds such as Bisphenol A during regular use, exposure to heat, and especially after cleaning. Klean Kanteen is lab tested proven to be 100% free of heavy metals and toxins.

Materials
Made from electropolished, non-leaching, high grade 304 L.N. (18/8) stainless steel. Klean Kanteen’s 304 L.N. stainless steel is grade blended specifically for food preparation, dairy, brewing, various medical uses and other applications where mineral migration is unacceptable. The steel is put through a electropolishing process which seals the surface and prevents minerals from migrating into the contents. These reusable, risk-free stainless steel containers do not impart taste and do not leach toxins into their contents. Plastics (polycarbonate) have been shown to leach carcinogens including BPA during regular use, exposure to heat and especially after cleaning. From manufacturing, to use and disposal, plastics pollute our health and environment.
Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, inert and sanitary.

100% recyclable. Using Klean Kanteen bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable Klean Kanteen bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time. Furthermore, 304 (or 18/8) stainless steel is a sustainable material, having a long service life, usability in a number of applications and is environmentally friendly. Stainless steel needs less maintenance and its hygienic qualities means that we do not have to use harsh cleaners to get a clean surface. There is little or nothing to dump into the drain that could have an environmental impact.

About Klean Kanteen
Klean Kanteen, a family-owned company in Chico, CA, was the first to create a stainless steel beverage container to curb the use of the one-time use water bottle and in response to credible reports about chemicals in common plastic drinking and food containers. Since 2004, Klean Kanteen has been informing the public about the health and environmental hazards of eating and drinking from plastic containers at consumer and trade shows such as Green Festivals, Outdoor Retailer Market, Natural Products Expo West and East, Interbike Expo, Whole Children Whole Planet and many others.
Klean Kanteen visits their manufacturing facilities 4-5 times per year and perform audits every six months to ensure all of our products are produced with respect for the environment and fair labor standards, including: the ethical treatment of factory workers, child labor, wages/benefits, health and safety, etc. Additionally, they do regular lab testing on random shipments through a local lab in the U.S. to ensure their products are made per their specifications, are free of hazardous substances such as lead, and do not leach chromium, manganese, etc.
Care Instructions
Washing caps in the dishwasher or submerging the tops in a washtub or basin is not recommended because water can squeeze itself into the cap. They can be cleaned with a bottle brush and mild soap. We recommend an old fashioned cleaner: white vinegar and baking soda.

Weak Construction
I ordered this cap seperately from my Klean Kanteen bottle because I wanted no plastic to contact my liquid. Unfortunately, the plastic top half broke off from the stainless steal bottom half, on the 3rd use! Very disappointing! There seems to be no way to repair it, so I'm just going to have to accept some plastic contact with the other style cap. :(

I kept thinking my 5 year old would prefer a straw
I kept thinking my 5 year old would prefer a straw- or sports-type cap for her water bottle. But whenever I would send that type to school, she would come home with a nearly full bottle of water. Now that she can chug from the big open mouth of her bottle, I know she is drinking more water. I also like that this cap is stainless and not plastic. Washes easily.

Less than two weeks ago we bought two of these cap
Less than two weeks ago we bought two of these caps to go with 40 oz bottles for our trip to Mexico. One of them broke in half today when we were unscrewing it from the bottle. We're only two days in to our trip! Fortunately, we brought along the plastic caps. Pretty bad construction, I'd say!

Love this cap!
Love this cap! Much better than the one that comes with the KK bottles. It's easy to twist on/off and will attach to large keychain or loop/strap of any kind. I got 2 to replace the caps for other KK bottles I have too!

Love the stainless steel klean canteens with the s
Love the stainless steel klean canteens with the sports top...the 27oz size is perfect. So are the insulated sleeves. I returned the all stainless loop caps, as water got inside them, and I could not get it out. Gave the canteens with sleeves as Christmas gifts to my family, and everyone was thrilled. I told them I don't expect to see any more plastic bottles! I have and will recommend these to anyone. They make a great gift, especially good for those you see who are always toting around plastic bottles.

DEFINITELY HAND WASH
DEFINITELY HAND WASH. One demerit for not being dishwasher-safe (water gets inside). So far very secure and much easier to remove than the plastic loop cap. Would also like some kind of tether to attach the cap to the bottle instead of putting it down (on a probably unclean surface). All our friends & family received and LOVED their Christmas presents of Klean Kanteens and BuiltNY coveres! Great, quick service.

I have enjoyed the water bottle and this top for a couple of months. Then the bottle cap broke; the stainless steel part was stuck in the bottle while the plastic top part was in my hand. I had to use pliers to get the stainless steel part off. I was expecting to get the quality that I paid for but it seems like these caps are not $5 worth. Very disappointed.

Somewhat difficult to remove the Klean Kanteen Loop cap, compared to the Sigg brand loop cap. Although it may be more difficult to remove, I love that it is dishwasher safe!

Great cap
Great cap. Noisy, but as others have said, that's to be expected with metal on metal. No leaks, and a little 'goo gone' took care of the residue left by the upc sticker. I appreciate having the option to order extra lids in stainless and other drinking styles - it will help make eliminating plastic water bottles an easier idea for my children to 'buy into'. Great line of products and super quick shipping :)
