Design & functionality
Klean Kanteen is a reusable, risk-free stainless steel container that does not leach toxins into its contents. Reusable, lightweight & durable. The wide-mouth accommodates ice cubes and makes cleaning easy. Sports cap and size make this bottle ideal for sports and other activities.
Materials
Made from electropolished, non-leaching, high grade 304 L.N. (18/8) stainless steel. Klean Kanteen’s 304 L.N. stainless steel is grade blended specifically for food preparation, dairy, brewing, various medical uses and other applications where mineral migration is unacceptable. The steel is put through a electropolishing process which seals the surface and prevents minerals from migrating into the contents. These reusable, risk-free stainless steel containers do not impart taste and do not leach toxins into their contents. Plastics (polycarbonate) have been shown to leach carcinogens including BPA during regular use, exposure to heat and especially after cleaning. From manufacturing, to use and disposal, plastics pollute our health and environment.
Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, inert and sanitary.

100% recyclable. Using Klean Kanteen bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable Klean Kanteen bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time. Furthermore, 304 (or 18/8) stainless steel is a sustainable material, having a long service life, usability in a number of applications and is environmentally friendly. Stainless steel needs less maintenance and its hygienic qualities means that we do not have to use harsh cleaners to get a clean surface. There is little or nothing to dump into the drain that could have an environmental impact.
Fact: over 50% of new stainless steel comes from old re-melted stainless steel scrap (SSINA)

Klean Kanteen, a family-owned company in Chico, CA, was the first to create a stainless steel beverage container to curb the use of the one-time use water bottle and in response to credible reports about chemicals in common plastic drinking and food containers. Since 2004, Klean Kanteen has been informing the public about the health and environmental hazards of eating and drinking from plastic containers at consumer and trade shows such as Green Festivals, Outdoor Retailer Market, Natural Products Expo West and East, Interbike Expo, Whole Children Whole Planet and many others.
Klean Kanteen visits their manufacturing facilities 4-5 times per year and perform audits every six months to ensure all of our products are produced with respect for the environment and fair labor standards, including: the ethical treatment of factory workers, child labor, wages/benefits, health and safety, etc. Additionally, they do regular lab testing on random shipments through a local lab in the U.S. to ensure their products are made per their specifications, are free of hazardous substances such as lead, and do not leach chromium, manganese, etc.
Care Instructions
- Bottle is dishwasher safe, but for daily cleaning, rinsing your bottle with warm, soapy and letting it drain and dry in your dish rack with the mouth downward so water can drain out is sufficient.
- For heavier cleaning, you can use warm, soapy water and a bottle brush. We also recommend an old-fashioned cleaner: diluted vinegar or water and baking soda.
- Sports or Loop cap are dishwasher safe top rack only
- Stainless steel does not rust. If your bottle appears to have rusted, it is a harmless residue left behind from the electro-polishing process. Electro charges remove fine particles from the stainless steel surface, remove impurities and seal it. Electrolytes left behind sometimes turn a rust color, but it's harmless. Simply scrub off
- Do not freeze. Freezing bottle voids warranty

Love the new sport top
I thought I'd lost my original Klean Kanteen bottle and was lost without it, so I ordered a replacement. Turns out that the place I'd left it, held on to it for me. So now I have two, but the new one is even better than the first. The sport top is somehow smoother and the water comes out easier! Love these bottles and they're so easy to clean.

Great product, but not perfect

I LOVE my Klean Kanteen. I am extremely picky about my water, and I don't notice any metallic/bad taste about the water in my Kanteen. My only complaint about the bottle is the sport lid. It makes a squeaky side when I drink out of it. After following other reviewers' advice, slightly unscrewing the cap does work to stop the squeaky sound--but sometimes I only have to unscrew it a little bit, and other times a lot, to stop the sound. At one point, it squeaked no matter how much I unscrewed it, until when I took a drink, water sloshed down my shirt because the lid was unscrewed so much, but the squeaking sound remained! This is something I can live with, though, and overall I'm very happy with the Kanteen. I plan on buying a 40 oz soon.

Good Water Bottle, not great
I love the Klean Kanteen, however it was in my bag, and I dropped my bag, and the water bottle inside dented really easily. It also gives my water a weird taste. But I love that it is eco-friendly. It's also a great size.

I love my Kleen Kanteen with the sport bottle top! I purchased this to replace my plastic water bottles that I use for my bike. This one slips into the bottle holder with ease, and the top makes it very easy to take a drink while cycling. There is no plasticy taste, and so far the water hasn't overheated on a long ride, whenever I use ice cubes. This is a great item both for my health and that of the environment.

Good, Not Great

I carry a water bottle with me everywhere (in my purse, when out hiking, etc), so I needed something sturdy. Check! I wanted stainless steel, so I'm happy there, too (some people have complained about a metallic taste to their water; I haven't noticed anything). The flat-top is quite leak-proof. Happy there, too. And the loop on the sports top is great - I use a carabiner to hook the water bottle to my backpack or waist belt when hiking, and it keeps my water accessible. The not-so-great parts: I find the wide mouth difficult to drink from - I have had more than one dribble. The sports top leaks, and it makes an annoying squeaking noise when I drink from it. I'd love to design my own bottle - the sports top from the SIGG bottles (don't leak, don't squeak) and the steel of the Kleen Kanteen bottles.

Perfect for the Car
I love using my K.K. bottle with the loop sport cap. It goes on all my outings in the car or to the park with the kids. By the way, I never used to like (1990's) the metal bottles because of the metallic taste, but these bottles impose no taste at all. Water always tastes clean and delicious. I also have the big 40oz bottle, and it's good for carrying backup water to refill the 27oz. I do sometimes drink straight from the 40, but it's a bit heavy when full, so prefer the 27.
