Design & Functionality
A wide-mouth version of Klean Kanteen‘s highly-rated, 100% BPA-free, stainless steel reusable bottle. It provides a great alternative for those who love the wider mouth of standard cups but want to avoid polycarbonate (plastics). This affordable bottle works with most hiking water filters, and the wide mouth is perfect for filling the bottle with ice cubes and makes it extremely easy to clean. Cap is interchangeable with any other Klean Kanteen Wide cap.
Materials
Made from electro-polished, non-leaching, high-grade 18/8 stainless steel blended specifically for food preparation, dairy, brewing and various other applications where mineral migration is unacceptable. Plastics (polycarbonate) have been shown to leach carcinogens including BPA after cleaning and with regular use and exposure to heat.
Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found in earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high-quality sanitary-grade 304 stainless steel, which has low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content, making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. It’s easy to clean, durable, inert and sanitary.

About Klean Kanteen
Klean Kanteen is a family-owned company in Chico, CA. It was the first company to create a stainless steel beverage container to curb the use of single-use water bottles and to respond to credible reports about chemicals in common plastic drinking & food containers. Since 2004, Klean Kanteen has informed the public about the health and environmental hazards of eating and drinking from plastic containers at consumer and trade shows such as Green Festivals, Outdoor Retailer Market, Natural Products Expo West and East, Interbike Expo, Whole Children Whole Planet and many others.
Klean Kanteen visits their manufacturing facilities in China 4-5 times per year and performs audits every six months to ensure all their products are produced with respect for the environment and fair labor standards, including: the ethical treatment of factory workers, child labor, wages/benefits, health and safety, etc. Additionally, they do regular lab testing on random shipments through a local lab in the U.S. to ensure their products are made per their specifications, are free of hazardous substances such as lead and do not leach chromium, manganese, etc.
Care Instructions
Klean Kanteens are dishwasher safe (washing caps in the dishwasher is not recommended because H2O can squeeze into the cap) or easy to clean with a bottle brush and mild soap. We recommend an old-fashioned cleaner: white vinegar and baking soda.
Stainless steel does not rust. If your bottle appears to have rusted, it is a harmless residue left behind from the electro-polishing process. (Electro charges remove fine particles from the stainless steel surface, remove impurities and seal it. Harmless electrolytes are left behind and sometimes turn a rust color).

The 40 Oz. Kleen Canteen SS bottle is perfect for longer trips away from home and with iced liquids. I especially like using it for smoothies, which I sip through the large glass straws one can also purchase on this site. The bottle's wide mouth makes it easy to clean and dry. I recommend getting the carrying sling for this bottle; it makes toting easier for women, whose smaller hands may not always grasp it securely, and for wet conditions. The sling also gives the bottle a bit more protection from scrapes and dings.

Great Water Bottle
I upgraded from the 27oz regular mouth Klean Kanteen to the wide mouth 40oz and I'm glad I did. It is so much easier to fill the wide mouth Kanteen with ice. I have a one of those BYO sleeve for it and my water stays cold for several hours. It would be nice to have a sports cap for it. But over all great product. Won't be going back to plastic.

Just like the nalgene 1L, but this one actually carries about 5oz more. It's definitely a quality product, but if you put cold drinks in it, the stainless steel sweats immediately. But overall, I think this is a great alternative to the Nalgene. The only problem I see is the cap that comes with the bottle. It's a thick plastic cap and would be a tad difficult to clip onto things, especially without a caribiner. Based on that, I would consider the other cap offering with the metal D ring.

I like the large water bottle - 40 oz, and I had ordered the sleeve that goes with it. That is great. I only wish that you had an option of tops, like a sports cap for this size. Otherwise it is great.
