We offer lots of additional info on SIGG in our SIGG FAQs.
Healthy & Safe
SIGG reusable bottles have been independently tested to prove no detectable leaching of harmful chemicals like BPA (learn more about BPA). SIGG's proprietary bottle lining is a water-based, non-toxic coating that is baked into the interior walls and remains flexible and crack resistant for the life of the bottle. SIGG's lining is not plastic – it is a micro-thin epoxy. Due to the finish of the liner, there is much less chance for bacteria build-up with a SIGG as opposed to plastic containers. The liner is taste-neutral and resistant to fruit acids and energy drinks, ensuring that your drinks taste like your drinks every time.
"While the polycarbonate #7 (aka Lexan) bottles leached a significant amount of BPA, the SIGG bottles – both new & used – showed no detectable BPA." -- Dr. Jonathan Chun PhD, Alliance Technology 2007
"According to the results of our evaluation, use of a SIGG bottle does not add to the beverage any particles or components which are dangerous to human health" -- Dr. Ulrich Nehring, Institute Nehring, 2007
Materials
Designed and manufactured in Switzerland from a single piece of pure aluminum, each bottle is perfectly extruded for uniform, seamless construction. About 20% lighter weight than a comparable sized Lexan plastic bottle, SIGG’s are incredibly durable, virtually unbreakable. Just ask the guys at Backpacker magazine who recently tested the leading bottle brands. Test results showed SIGG as “The World’s Toughest Water Bottle”. Click here for more.
The brilliant exterior of a SIGG is created using a solvent-free, eco-friendly, powder-based coating which is baked on to create a vibrant finish. SIGG reusable bottles are beautifully designed, portable works of art that are a perfect blend of function and fashion. In fact, SIGG bottles are part of the permanent Design Collection at the NY Museum of Modern Art. Like a fashion house, SIGG drops and introduces new styles every year keeping designs fresh.
Sustainability
Not only are SIGG bottles designed to be reusable, they are 100% recyclable at the end of their very long lives. Single use, disposable water bottles (PET plastic) create millions of tons of unnecessary waste each year. In fact, according to the Container Recycling Institute, less than 15% of plastic water bottles in the U.S. are actually recycled – most wind up in landfills where they can take up to 1000 years to biodegrade. Using SIGG bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic and paper beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable SIGG bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time.
About SIGG
For 100+ years, SIGG has utilized Swiss precision and craftsmanship to produce high-quality reusable bottles. The history of SIGG Switzerland dates back to 1908 when metal processing specialist Ferdinand Sigg established an aluminum product factory in Biel, Switzerland. The SIGG bottle became a fixture in Swiss households; in fact, every member of the Swiss Army had a SIGG bottle issued as standard field gear. A USA subsidiary was launched in 2005, but SIGG operations still remain in the quaint village of Frauenfeld, Switzerland to this day. In addition, as a member of 1% for the Planet, SIGG USA donates 1% of all sales to helping preserve our environment.
SIGG Bottle Accessories
Customize your SIGG bottle with a variety of accessories, including colorful caps (all SIGG caps are interchangeable), cleaning tools and insulated sleeves.
Problems with Plastic
To learn more on potential leaching from certain plastic containers, BPA, phthalates & additional info showing why SIGG is a safe choice, check out the BPA & Phthalates category in our Newsroom.
Care Instructions
Rinsing your SIGG thoroughly under the faucet with warm, soapy water at the end of every day and letting it air dry with the top off provides sufficient cleaning in most cases. When more thorough cleaning is required, you can use baking soda and vinegar. For tough jobs, pick up some SIGG cleaning tablets and a SIGG brush. Do not use a hard bristled brush to clean the interior of your SIGG bottle as this may damage the liner.

I both like and dislike this product
I both like and dislike this product. I like it because it's not plastic, and it keeps drinks cold for a longer amount of time. I don't like that it leaks when tipped on it's side or upside down. I bought 2 of these for my children aged 1 and 3. They don't get the concept, nor do they want to exert the effort to twist the top that would enable them to sip from it, and keep the liquid from spilling out. Leakage does happen somewhat with plastic sippy cups, but it is significantly less. I use these, but I reach for the plastic ones first.

My daughter loves(d) the cups
My daughter loves(d) the cups. However, I had to dispose two of them due to a smell that I could not remove (the cleaning tablets were not effective). The only thing I could determine was that dairy can not be used in the cups (we commonly used them for milk). I am currently using a klean kanteen for milk and only use the other Sigg cups for water.

Love this bottle!
Love this bottle!! My 3 1/2 yr. old loves it and uses it for every drink. He also takes it to playschool which saves me a fortune in juice boxes as well as helping to reduce garbage. I bought a larger sigg bottle from EMS but he couldn't work the sport top so I ordered an extra kid top. My 13mth. old daughter also loves this cup -so I'll be making another purchase soon.

works well - my 2year old loves it - but is a pain to clean! i had to get my bottle brush out again to clean these really well. the dishwasher doesn't get it clean enough - still smells like bad milk :P also has an o-ring that's easy to lose when cleaning. excellent choice however if you're not planning on putting milk in it!

great bottle
great bottle. my 20 month old loves the bottle and the design. he also loves that he is able to open and close it on his own... he is very proud of that. however, the fact that once it is twisted open the water flows freely, can be a bit messy. this model may be better for slightly older children with more control. as long as its just water, i let him make a mess though because this bottle is great!

Such a cute bottle, works well for our 1 year old
Such a cute bottle, works well for our 1 year old. We liked it even more after realizing the colored cap snaps off for temporary removal. Just a heads up to parents and not a product flaw - this gets quite heavy if filled full and after a long refrigeration is sometimes too cold for little hands.

I am so disappointed in this product
I am so disappointed in this product. It's cute but not at all baby-user-friendly. First of all, I discarded the red cap because it would totally get in the way of drinking, especially for a child as young as my ten month-old son, who is just starting to figure out the whole cup thing anyway. Also, the sippy cup components are very difficult to disassemble to clean (and at this price, you need to be able to clean the cup frequently and easily). I literally had to pry the seal off with a butter knife. Very wierd. And the cup functions so that with a turn of the sippy (top) piece, it is either open or shut. Well, when it is shut, my baby can't (obviously) drink from it. But when it's open, it isn't leak-proof. And my baby could easily shut it on accident and then not be able to drink from it -- or dump in on the carpet if it is open. Due to the difficulty of cleaning the components, I don't even plan to use this cup for my older daughter. I strongly recommend the Klean Kanteen sippy cup instead -- I wish I had bought two of those instead of one of each.

We skipped the traditional sippy cup and went straight for this SIGG bottle for our 6 month old. He quickly learned to drink from it and will sometimes just gnaw on the tip, happily letting the water dribble down his chin. He loves the bright red cap and enjoys mouthing and playing with it. We paired it with the SIGG Kids Grip so he can eventually learn to hold it himself. For now, he grips the handles, but not with enough strength and consistency for us to let go. :)
