Design & Functionality
SIGGs are safe reusable bottles that do not leach toxins into its contents. Reusable, lightweight & durable, these bottles can take a hit without compromising the interior lining. About 20% lighter weight than comparably sized Lexan plastic bottles, SIGGs are incredibly durable, virtually unbreakable though they may dent to absorb falls or hits. Just ask the guys at Backpacker magazine who recently tested the leading bottle brands and crowned SIGG as "The World’s Toughest Water Bottle".

Fashionable as they are functional, each year SIGG launches exciting new designs from artists around the world. Much like a fashion house, SIGG rotates and drops designs to keep things fresh. SIGG reusable bottles are beautifully designed - in fact, SIGG bottles are part of the permanent Design Collection at the NY Museum of Modern Art.

Materials
Designed and manufactured in Switzerland from a single piece of pure aluminum, each bottle is perfectly extruded for uniform, seamless construction. The brilliant exterior of a SIGG is created using a solvent-free, eco-friendly, powder-based coating which is baked on to create a vibrant finish.

SIGG reusable bottles have been thoroughly tested in the U.S. and Europe to ensure no leaching of any aluminum or liner contents. We only carry bottles with SIGG's EcoCare liner, which is independently tested to be 100% free of BPA, phthalates, BADGE, BFDGE, and NOGE. The proprietary EcoCare liner is a bake-on, polymer powder coating which is sprayed evenly onto the bottle interior and bonded to the aluminum shell at nearly 200 degrees Celsius to form a permanent, flexible barrier. Just 40 microns thick, this coating comprises only a few grams per bottle and in no way interferes with the ultimate recycling of your SIGG. The liner is taste-neutral and resistant to fruit acids and energy drinks, ensuring that your drinks taste like your drinks every time.

For test results and more information about the SIGG liner read our FAQ.

Sustainability
Not only are SIGG bottles designed to be reusable, they are 100% recyclable at the end of their very long lives. Aluminum is one of the most environmentally friendly materials in the world because it is extremely easy to recycle, regaining nearly all of its properties and making it ideal for repurposing.

Single-use, disposable water bottles (PET plastic) create millions of tons of unnecessary waste each year. In fact, according to the Container Recycling Institute, less than 15% of plastic water bottles in the U.S. are actually recycled – most wind up in landfills where they can take up to 1000 years to biodegrade. Using SIGG bottles helps replace wasteful, use-and-toss single serving plastic and paper beverage containers, while saving you money in the process. Reusing durable SIGG bottles ultimately helps you consume less over time.

"More than 90% of the environmental impact of a plastic bottle takes place before the bottle hits the landfill... energy to manufacture, energy to transport, energy to refrigerate--and ultimately energy to recycle." – Dr. Allen Hershkowitz, NRDC

About SIGG
For 100+ years, SIGG has utilized Swiss precision and craftsmanship to produce high-quality reusable bottles. The history of SIGG Switzerland dates back to 1908 when metal processing specialist Ferdinand Sigg established an aluminum product factory in Biel, Switzerland. The SIGG bottle became a fixture in Swiss households; in fact, every member of the Swiss Army had a SIGG bottle issued as standard field gear. A USA subsidiary was launched in 2005, but SIGG operations still remain in the quaint village of Frauenfeld, Switzerland to this day.

SIGG is committed to preserving nature. They choose FSC-certified papers for all their publications, and work with eco-printing plants to actively reduce CO2 emissions and participate in voluntary climate protection.

Care Instructions
  • Do not freeze your SIGG aluminum bottle – it will crack!
  • Rinsing your SIGG thoroughly under the faucet with warm, soapy water at the end of every day and letting it air dry with the top off provides sufficient cleaning in most cases
  • When more thorough cleaning is required, you can use baking soda and vinegar
  • For tough jobs, pick up some SIGG cleaning tablets or Skweet and a SIGG brush
  • Do not use a hard bristled brush to clean the interior of your SIGG bottle as this may damage the liner.

Great water bottle

by Jennifer S - 09/2011

A simple water bottle in a very cool color (I ordered the red). We have a larger SIGG bottle as well and wanted a smaller one that was easier to carry. I particularly like the SIGG brand because the inside of the sipping edge of the bottle itself is lined with some kind of rubber--no metallic taste or texture when you drink out of the bottle.

So far, so good!

by Katherine G - 01/2011

I bought the Sigg classic water bottles for everyone in my family and so far they are exactly what I wanted! It was hard to choose between Sigg and Klean Kanteen, but it came down to weight, and the Siggs seem to hardly weigh more than a plastic bottle. The lip is comfortable for drinking and easy to fill. The colors are great (smoked pearl, red and blue) and I personally don't taste anything metallic, etc, from the bottle. They're great.

I have purchased 5 SIGG bottles. I was so disappointed and angry to find out about the leaching. I will never trust SIGG products again. They all went into the recycling bin. I am going for Kleen Kanteen...I have one of those and so far, it's great. SIGG's dishonesty was a bad one. Shame on you for not being honest!

I like the bottle. I made a mistake on the size. I didnt' pay attention so it's a little small for me. But other than that, it's a fine bottle.

They were on sale plus free shipping over $75 spent. Great idea, keep up free shipping. I put filtered water in my bottle and save money AND help the planet we all live in. Best company I have found.

Great product

by Lawrence L - 03/2009

Great product. Has a smooth lip for drinking and water tastes great. Although packaging was minimal and recyclable, the Sigg bottle arrived slightly dented and scratched. A shame since the finish is very nice if not for the minor damage. One things to consider is that the bottle has a small opening and may be hard to clean without a separate brush.

I like to carry a bottle of water with me, but they cost a lot and the plastic empties were piling up. Even buying them on sale at the supermarket is pricey, and buying a waterbottle outside the house is outrageous. I don't like the taste a refillable plastic bottle leaves. A friend loaned me a steel waterbottle to try, and I was in love. I really like the SIGG bottle -- the aluminum is lightweight and tough. I dropped my bottle onto cement, and while it did dent slightly, it's more a matter of aesthetics than anything else. The bottle is a comfortable size to fit my hands, which are slightly on the small size. I'll admit that the pretty blue color caught my eye, although I'd have bought the red instead had it been on sale. The bright color is useful -- it's not hard to spot my waterbottle when I've left it sitting around! I have only two quibbles. One is something that I simply hadn't thought of -- when you fill an opaque waterbottle, you have no good way to know when it's full After filling it a dozen times, I know by the sound exactly when it's full enough, but it's a bit of a nuisance. My other quibble is the lid. While it's constructed nicely to twist on and off with ease, there is more threading than on a refillable plastic bottle or a commercial throw-away. Where a few twists will get a plastic waterbottle lid off, it's a mild nuisance to have to make half-a-dozen extra twists on the SIGG. It takes about nine, which doesn't seem like much until you do it a dozen times in a row to get drinks. A sport top would solve the problem, but I don't like sport tops. This bottle cost about the same as three cartons of plastic waterbottles, so it will take a little time to pay for itself. (If you buy your waterbottles outside the house, it will pay for itself after a dozen fillings, though.) On the other hand, the amount of recycling is down substantially, I don't have that pile of waterbottle racks sitting in the corner, and I don't have to worry about running out if we run a little late with the shopping.
