Dimensions
7.3"L x 1.6"W
Weighs 4.5 oz with batteries

The most portable water purification system we've seen yet, the SteriPEN Journey takes the guesswork out of clean, safe water. With ultraviolet light, this tiny purifier disrupts the DNA of microbes in seconds. Without functional DNA, those microbes can't get you sick. Whether camping, traveling or just being cautious about clean drinking water, purification has never been so fast and easy. Simply push the button to activate, place the lamp in clear water to illuminate and stir until a smiley face appears on the LCD screen. No pumping, test strips, chemicals or filters.

Design & Functionality
With only one button to push and an easy-to-read LCD screen that displays simple symbols, SteriPEN Journey is just as useful as an everyday household tool as it is as a world traveling companion. Long-lasting UV lamp can purify up to 2,500 gallons of water in its lifetime - get up to 100 purifying doses without changing the batteries. Every single SteriPEN is tested for correct function before it leaves the factory.

The SteriPEN Journey meets the United States EPA Guide Standard and Protocol for Testing Microbiological Water Purifiers. Studies from the University of Maine and the Oregon Health Sciences University found that the SteriPEN effectively destroys these common microorganisms:
  • Diarrhea (Dysentary bacilli & Escherichia coli)
  • Staphylococcus epidermidis
  • Legionella pneumophilia
  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Food Poisoning (Salmonella)
  • Enteric Fever (Salmonella paratyphi)
  • Influenza
  • Bacillus anthracis
  • Typhoid Fever (Salmonella typhosa)
  • Dysentery (Shigella dysentariae & Shigella flexneri)
  • Streptococcus faecaelis
  • Cholera (Vibro commo)
  • Corynebacterium diphtheriae
  • E. Coli (Bacteriophage)
  • Hepatitis
  • Poliomyelitis (Poliovirus)
  • Baker's yeast

SteriPEN is so effective, it has even proven to destroy natural disaster/bio-terror risks that cause Botulism, Cholera, Smallpox & Typhoid.

Materials
Ultraviolet (UV) light is invisible, high energy light. Due to its effectiveness against bacteria it is used commercially in bottling plants, hospitals and municipal water treatment plants worldwide. Germicidal UV light acts on thymine, one of the four base nucleotides in DNA. UV destroys DNA of microbes, making them unable to replicate. Without the ability to replicate DNA, the microbe cannot reproduce and is rendered harmless.

Although prolonged exposure to UV light can cause skin and eye damage, used as directed SteriPEN will not cause UV exposure to the user. Drinking containers made from glass, ceramic, metal and nearly all plastics will block UV-transmission. Plus, the SteriPEN’s water sensors prevent it from operating unless the lamp is completely immersed.

The tapered stopper - between the glass lamp and the body of the SteriPEN - is made from eco-friendly TPE (thermoplastic elastomers), which is food-safe, recyclable and biodegradable.

Sustainability
During its lifetime a SteriPEN Journey handheld Water Purifier, in conjunction with reusable bottles, will keep thousands of plastic water bottles out of landfills. Because it uses UV light, there is no need for wasteful disposable filters or chemical additives. With a long lamp life and low energy output, which makes it easy on batteries, you can use the SteriPEN over and over without replacing parts or batteries.

    Brilliant concept

We bought the SteiPen as a gift for someone, but when it arrived it looked so great, we decided to keep it and try it out. What a brilliant concept. We use tank water in Bermuda (rain water that's stored in tanks below our homes) and the steriPen helps reassure me that my water is 100% pure before I drink it. We used to buy costly filters, but they only last so long and throwing that chunk of plastic away made me feel very guilty. This is brilliant. I fill up a jug with water from the tap, stick the SteriPen in and 50-odd seconds later I have purified water. We're going on holiday to Central America in September and will be taking our SteriPen with us. Only issue I have is that I can't sterilize a bottle of water - the grey part of the pen has to be in the water for it to work and the bottle top is too narrow, but it's not a major issue.

My husband and I spent a year traveling around Asi

My husband and I spent a year traveling around Asia with the older generation of Steripen, the "adventurer," and did not buy a single bottle of water. We drank Delhi tap water without incident after using the steripen. It's absolutely amazing--the locals would be amazed to see our water bottles light up when using it. It's effortless to use--you just have to sit there holding the steripen in your bottle for a minute or so 'til the light goes off--so much easier than a pump, and way more compact! We got rechargeable batteries for it as well as a screw-on nalgene filter for when the water had stuff actually floating in it. 110% recommended.
